BIKEPACKING WALES SUNDOWNERS GONE HORRIBLY WRONG (CRASH)

- After some pretty tough bikepacking adventures over the last few weeks, I thought I'd take on something a little easier and a little chilled, the Solstice sundowners route created by all mountain adventures isn't really a bikepacking route as such but works well for a little overnighter. My plans for a relaxing, chilled out bikepacking adventure would soon change as it all went downhill in the blink of an eye.

Hello you wonderful people, firstly thanks for all the well-wishes. And thanks for taking the time to join me on what is probably going to be the last adventure for a little while. I will need to take some time to heal up from this one. So thank you so much for dropping by for this little micro adventure that didn’t go so well… Thanks for all the continued support and I will see you in the next one, hopefully not too far in the future. Enjoy the adventure.
I have done a video braking down the crash on the second channel here - czcams.com/video/0BSow7yGd4U/video.html
Make sure to check out the website for more info, www.keepsmilingadventures.com
ouch! Heal up soon - thanks for all the inspiration!
ooooh ribs man
Ouch! As a fellow bike packer that was a hard watch. There but for the grace of God go all of us. Glad you didnt need surgery. Wishing you a fast and full recovery.
Aw man that looked a sore one. Its never fun breaking ribs. Glad your ok, and well done to the passing dog walker for assistance. Wish you a speedy recovery!
I think that's the most dramatic, disturbing bike crash I've ever seen. I hope you're going on ok & may I second what you said, big thanks to all the lovely people who helped you out. There are nice people in this world, we'd do well to remember that.
Speedy recovery Dude. It was like watching a horror movie knowing that a crash was coming up at some point! When you were no hands on tarmac I thought you might hit a rock that flicks the bars and thuds you down, then those blind canal bridges with the chicane exits? But no, that evil rock and a greasy track. Your calmness in the midst of a disaster speaks volumes about your character Josh.
Masses of respect for you.
Take it easy & get well soon.
Top Man.
😢 hi josh, so sorry about your crash, them screams are curdling mate, thought it was your leg at first being broken, but then we now know it was your ribs, these things happen on cycling my friend, even the best get caught out on them slippery tracks, a big thanks to the walker who came to your aid and all the medical staff, thankgod u had your phone, get well soon my friend ,chin up, 🤕🚴🚴🚴🚴🚴. Just another test in the long road of life, ive been there.
Difficult to watch Josh glad your recovering x
Oh, boy... That scream triggers PTSD in me.
I hope you will be well, soon.
Yep, likewse.. Was chilling.. I myself fractured both Tibia and Fibula during a crash in 2008 that had me hospitalized for a month.
@@kindredspirit6654 oh, I don't remember my own crash. 20 minute window gone.
It reminds me of a dude with a crushed hand I was pulling out of a machine at work.
@@Arrynek01 Oh man.. Agree, was somewhat of a bloodcurdling scream.. Had me worried that a really serious injury had occured.. Couple of broken Ribs and superficial organ damage - could have been worse I guess.. A crushed hand - nasty.. Hear real horror stories of those sorts of incidents happening around heavy machinery. Was chatting with someone in a pub few years back who lost an arm in an incident with a tractor.. People really need to be more careful.
Yeh! The bike was fine!!
Honestly though Josh, that was really shocking.... your screams.... AND that I've played it back several times and seen no danger at all!
Thank you for sharing.... and take it steady with the recovery. 👊
Best wishes. Take your time. I am pretty sure you have an audience that doesn't live to the hyper fast cycles of CZcams, but stays patiently tuned and connected 🙏
Having broken a number of ribs several times I can relate to your pain. Every breath is agony! Heal quickly.
Ouch!! I always feared you had a big fall coming but not on that flat piece of land!!
Glad to hear your okay mate, I have broken a few ribs myself, I hope you don't get a cough!!
Get well soon
So glad you're on the mend now Josh, that was a really bad crash. If the path hadn't had those boulders along the edge it probably would have been a different outcome too. Get well soon.
There's always a risk to the things we do in life but the main thing is to overcome those fears and do those things you that you love, accept the risks and minimise them but there's no guarantee of not having an accident! The main thing is your going to be OK.
I had a similar crash last November upon the Ridgeway, the front end of the bike slipped on wet chalk and before I knew it I was flying through the air landing heavily on my ribs on the unforgiving hard chalk ground. At first there was no pain but when I moved I could feel cracking and movement in my ribcage, I climbed back on the bike and continued my journey only for pain to gradually set in over the next three hours. A trip to hospital and pain meds for a few weeks then I was back on the bike cycling, good as new. It took about 4 or 5 weeks for the ribs to heal in my case so hopefully you will be back to new quite soon.
Take care and get well:)
Sandy
So sorry to see this. Hope you heal well. Thanks for all of the inspiration you provide.
Hey Josh get well soon buddy, rest up your a great inspiration to many thanks for sharing this must have been really dificult to watch over. Thanks again Dave
Damn Josh, that scream of pain went straight through. Not pleasant at all. Very glad to see you're on the mend and not seriously injured. I've had a few tumbles of a bike in my time and it's not nice. Wishing you a speedy recovery and seeing you back out doing what you clearly love doing so much.
Get well soon bud, I'm sure in the future you'll be more careful offroad downhill on a heavily ladened bike, they can act very unpredictably very quickly in some situations, rest up and hope you make a full recovery
Wishing you a speedy recovery Josh both physically and psychologically after such terrible trauma. Glad your liver didn’t need surgery! We love your videos and you’ve kept us smiling for the last few years for sure. Legend.
WOW, that scream!!! I seriously didn't watch to watch afterwards, obviously I did because you do know how to show a Great Adventure. Get well soon and well done for all those who helped!!
Same! 🫣
That was awful, I felt your pain.
Glad you weren't more injured. I hope it doesn't put you off future rides.
Wishing you a speedy recovery.
OMG that was a blood curdling sound. Horrific! Broken ribs require a good deal of patience to heal. I feel for you. Wishing you a speedy recovery
Speedy recovery, Josh and all the trails will be waiting for you to be back out when you're good and ready. 👍
That was a rough one! Wishing you a speedy recovery pal. That was shaping up to be a great trip with the unusually fine weather. I look forward to the repeat (sans crash!).

Wishing you well Josh. Looking forward to seeing more adventures soon.
Speedy recovery, an off is never fun and unlike when we were kids we do not bounce anymore, take care.
Best wishes for a speedy recovery. Take time to heal thoroughly!
So glad you're ok ... I hope you're back on the bike soone than later. Absolutely love your films they are a big inspiration for making my own. Cheers!
Wow! That rock you've hit looked like the worst nightmare! I had the same experience couple of weeks ago. I've crushed and done the same thing to my ribs but using my own elbow... Ribs were not broken but 3 weeks I couldn't only run. Bicycle was the only exercise I didn't feel the pain and could go on with it. Stay safe and watch on yourself! Also as your channel says: keep smiling still ✊️✌️ Regards!
Ouch, looked so painful!
Glad to hear you're ok , and so glad you got help from people.
It is always a concern one could easily suffer hypothermia if you'd been lying there for hours with no help.
All the best with your recovery!
Jeez Josh that sent shivers down my spine glad you are on the mend and looking forward to see your videos in the near future get well soon buddy.
Positive thoughts coming your way ,I did the same on wet chalk when I was 57 ,the ribs healed a lot quicker than my separated shoulder & everyone at my LBS was comparing x-rays . Have speedy recovery.
Nasty one, mate, at least your bike was ok! Get well soon, Josh.
Glad you did not have to wait too long for help where you were riding looked epic i will have to go there in the summer.
hope you have a speedy recovery bud.
I never like to see this as it makes me relive some of my own crashes! Best wishes for a speedy recovery Josh.
Ouch!!! Tough watch get well soon plenty of time to plan your next adventure!
Dude! Thanks for the vid, really good of you to be sharing in such circumstances! Ribs are a Bstd! Soooo painful and long to heal, just glad to hear your liver is healing well. take care man. 😎✌

The views looked amazing on the journey down. Been to visit Tredegar a few times past Abergavenny.
Wishing you a speedy recovery dude,I did the same thing a while ago.you will be back riding before you know it 👍
Oooof that looked painful. Rest up bro feel better, we'll be here when you get back! 😎

Sending best wishes to you Josh....I wasnt aware of your 2nd channel but i'm now tied in. Speedy recovery.
Speedy recovery and back to riding on the beautiful trails of your country
That was a horrific start to this video! Hope you’re healing well Josh and your back out when the better weather comes around.
That was a tough watch Josh - take it easy mate, i know how sore broken ribs can be but the laceration is in another class of pain altogether. Chapeau to all the good people in the NHS.
The screams of pain 😬 hope you’re healing well. After having a couple of crashes and hurting my shoulder and ribs I can empathise. And of course the thing that hurts most is having to be off the bike!
That was a nasty crash! Wishing you a speedy recovery. All the best.
Oh god mate. I know what it feels like to make that kinda noise. Hope you're all mended and back on the bike asap. Keep on bringing the inspiration man
Really enjoy your videos. Wishing you a speedy recovery
Hey Josh, sorry about your crash, but very glad you did not need surgery, speedy recovery and get better soon.
Bloody hell, that scream was horrific..hope you get well soon and are back on the bike in time to enjoy the rest of Spring & Summer!!!
I had an accident with my bike a few months ago with a broken knee and rib as a result. Your screams gave me the chills and a painfull flashback... 😅 There's always that risk when riding your bike... Wishing you a good recovery!
All the best for the recovery!
Hi Josh , Lucky to hear no surgery needed , could have been a lot worse , hope you’re back fighting fit to carry on the channel mate
That could have been so much worse, so glad you are on the mend. The response team where so quick
Hope you get well soon , and have a speedy recovery
Oh mate!! I live 5 minutes from that stretch! It needs blocking off as it’s just super slippery all year round from the moss. I’ve fallen off in exactly the same place climbing up and my son has fallen off coming down!! If you had gone right instead of under the tunnel, it would have brought you out safely onto the line above which is far better.. speedy recovery
Gutted , glad you're well hopefully have speedy recovery, just dont sneeze
Ouch! Glad you are OK, and I hope you heal soon.
Best news was knowing the bike was ok 🥳
In all seriousness, thanks for the adventures, keep smiling and get well soon 👊
It's always the less technical bits that get us! Been there, done that and know exactly how bloody painful that can be. I feel for you Josh! Rest up, eat well and get well very soon. You will be back on the bike in no time lovely. Keep smiling! 🥰
Ouch, nasty fall. I hope you get well soon. Any broken bone from a fall takes time. I did my femar two years ago and the non cycling period is torture.
I wish you a good and speed recovery Josh .
Wishing you a quick recovery Josh and hope to you are not off the bike for too long.
Respect for putting that emotion in, alot of men wouldn't of.
Hell…. That sounded horrible, wishing you a swift recovery Josh 😎
Blimey, I didn’t really want to watch the whole video after the intro…. I hope you manage to heal well both physically and mentally Josh. That was a huge impact. Get well soon mate. 😎
Get well soon my friend.. looked very painful.. wishing you a speedy recovery and hope to see you back on your bike soon 😢 Pete 🚴🏻👍
Ouch! Rest up and heal up soon - must admit I didn't want to watch this one, but can I just say that until the unfortunate ending, this looked a fantastic route and ride, and beautifully shot.
So gutted for you Josh, I was so looking forward to seeing the route passed my house in Church village . I've done ribs myself and I know how sore it is.
Thank god you're ok mate. I hope you heal up quick. Reminds me of a fall I took on Dartmoor hiking. I wrenched my knee really bad but was able to walk out and get help. Still go back there though it's what we do!
Looked and sounded painful. Glad the dog walker came across you and glad you didn’t need surgery. Take care and keep your hands on the handlebars.
So so sorry, glad the bike was OK though 😂
Recover well, much love👍
Oh mate what a horrible crash. Sending you best wishes and a speedy recovery 🤞
The things you do for content!! Great video and a reminder to myself that things can go from great too serious in a split second. I've started carrying a PLB due to the remote locations i'm going in my own, just incase.
Hope you heal up soon and get back out there.
Nasty Josh. Uncomfortable watching, that opening sequence.
Ribs are so painful and such slow healers. Really glad you didn't need the operation but that was a close one.
I hope you can be back out there as soon as possible because your work/adventures bring me and many others alot of pleasure.
Take it steady mate.
I feel your pain, ribs are the worst. The pain seems to linger for weeks and weeks, unlike any other bones I’ve broken. It’s funny how these incidents always seem to happen when we are at our most relaxed, just glad for you that wasn’t a steeper descent , where you’d have been travelling a little faster. Glad it’s only two ribs, as bad as that is!
I had a hip break under similar circumstances. Hope you heal up soon, Josh!
Rest well Josh take your time with your recovery.sometimes we have to stand still for a while.
But we will always move again stronger 👍👌💪
Get better. Take your time and keep up the good spirit!
Get well soon Josh! So sorry about your accident. Take care
Ouch!! Get yourself fit and healthy Josh......looking forward to your future videos when you get back out there 💪
We affectionately call you smiler and were so upset to see you hurt! Thank the good Lord you got help pretty timely! And thank you for sharing, what must have been a very difficult video to edit. God Speed our beautiful back packing Smiler.
Jeezers mate. Recover quickly and please, no more crashes.
I feel your pain. Last July I crashed out on an easy section of grass up the middle trail. Broken left wrist and fractured ribs. Hurt like hell and I didn't manage to ride again until late September.
Take it easy and good luck.
Absolutely gutted for you, man that was nasty. I know I'm not alone in wishing you all the very best for a full and speedy recovery. We shall all be here for you when you are ready but for now take it easy mate. 👍
Speedy recovery! Looked really nasty and hope the pain is at least easing now.
Hi Josh, hopefully, some rest will do the heeling for you. Take Care and wishing you a speedy recovery. Thank goodness for Dog walkers!
Glad you’re on the mend. Scary stuff take care❤️
