This is literally only comparing 2 races
+Emma w They have more for other races, but this one was meant for just these two.
+Emma w Yeah, the interesting part is that people are discussing how poor this test is delivered because of the questions and almost nobody has noticed that they're focused on only two races!
Yeah, the white and black vision of racial perception is annoying and exclusionary
+Zoe Thomas yes, but the original point was that there are more than two races obviously
I took these a while ago but there are many more that compare other races and also one for gender if I'm not misremembering.
I'm not racist
I hate everyone equally
Did your mom tell you that one
wOWOOoow ur so cool
damn so edgy
lol
Same here. Except I stupid people more than I hate everyone
I had a friend who wrote a paper for her psych major about this test and how it is not really an accurate representation of bias. It bugs me that they take this test as absolute truth
+kokopuppy57342 has she put her psych major online anywhere for anyone to read?
+Simon Banks I have no idea, she was just working on it at my house so that's how I knew about it. I'll see what I can find
kokopuppy57342 no worries on my behalf btw
+Simon Banks My friend's is not public. Though Psychology today has a great article that makes many similar points, it was written Jan 28 2011 and is titled Does the implicit association test (IAT) really measure racial bias? Probably not. by Scott Barry Kaufman. Hopefully this is helpful :)
but why ? I mean surely it has some truth to it? it upset me that I had to think harder when I was doing African American or Good ... I do not go about my life with a racial bias but surely this is an indication to something that was planted in me outside of my control?
This test is poorly created
Agreed
Shhh let the religious people watch their buzzfeed
+TheSpicyPotatoe what does religion have to do with this?
+IDon'tCallHits most people that watch BuzzFeed are religious
+TheSpicyPotatoe who
The test spends the first 5 minutes conditioning your reflexes to click one key for "White" and "Good" and another key for "Black" and "Bad". Then when you spend the next 3 minutes struggling to click the same key for "Black" and "Good", the test tells you that you subconsciously don't like Blacks as much. That's not social conditioning - it's muscle memory.
+ASB Let's not pretend that social conditioning and internal biases isn't a thing though.
Anonymous11243 You have a point there. However, in my view, the order makes the most difference. While you may have the same amount of time to practice each grouping, you are only struggling to overcome muscle memory for the "Black" and "Good" grouping, not the "White" and "Good", which you started with no "opposite" training. That creates a serious bias in the test. Some people are always more skilled at overcoming muscle memory, which might explain your result. May be without the prior "opposite" training, you would have got a moderate or a strong preference for African Americans.
IwanAcleverUtubeName I don't doubt that these are factors in real life. However, I think that as far as the test is concerned, the bias created by muscle memory overshadows any result that can be attributed to social conditioning.
+Anonymous11243 I actually thought that did influence me but then there was a different test that was still based on race but more on skin tone rather than a specific race but the order of the two was opposite. In that test you had to group the darker skinned people with positive words first, then switch and the result for me was the same for the two quizzes. I feel like the biggest factor for the quiz they did on the video would have to be if you were part of one of the races.
Thanks for bringing up that point! I thought the same!
How come Asians are never usually involved in tests such as these
They're smart and above all
+GENOSHOCK just kidding but seriously they just want to incite white guilt and hate
Not true. Not all of them are like that.
Ikr. Don't even get me started on mixed people.
@Ryden Mederos lol this person probably meant in the test. But I can tell you, @DoodleGamer, why they aren't in this test, cause they have a complete different test for that one. You should take a look on the website. They have alot of test like these for different categories.
I thought racism is when someone believes they are superior to others based off of their race.
+Ayshia Kimberly It's also when you assume things about others based on their race, nationality, and/or ethnicity.
+MotomachiZid thats prejudice
+Tashawn Davis (also + everyone who is interested) Well, yes but you can also have predjudices based on other factors (i.e. gender -> sexism). When it is based on one of the reasons listed above it's racism.
I think it is also important to note that this still applies for people of different ethnicities within the same race. According to an United Nations convention, there is no distinction between the terms "racial" and "ethnic" discrimination. A white polish person can still experience racism from a white english person.
From an american point of view this sometimes gets mixed up because people of the same race often have a similar history and ethnicity and that's where most predjudices come from (let's say besides the fast running black man): the cultural difference. You think people are a certain way because of the culture they grew up in which influenced the person they are today; you might for example think that a latino person is an extrovert because in latin american culture it is more normal to be open and outgoing, you don't think that because of their skin colour that only gives you the hint they could be latino.
So: yes, judging people based on their skin colour is racism, but that's not the only kind of it.
It is, this doesn't measure racism, subconscious racial bias is very different.
Yes and no I consider that more prejudice than racism
I took the test and got no preference. But then again, I live in an Asian society where there is little exposure to either race.
Asians are pretty racist
+k f you saying this was racist
+Cumuloq Same thing happened with me. I have lived in the UK a good deal of time in my adult life though. Guess all the brainwashing happens during your childhood.
+Cumuloq I got little to no. I am against a lot of judgement honestly because i grew up in a home which my parents are very judgmental
Asians are really racist😂
I think we are all racially bias to some extent subconsiously, it's just something we can't help, but that does *not* make us all racist, there's a difference
+James V considering the world and society we live in i guess we can't help it
+fr801 I am not ashamed to admit that I probably do have a racial preference. I grew up around my Asian family and so I'm much more comfortable around my own culture that's all it is. It's natural to be a bit anxious around cultures that we don't completely understand and although I've always wished to embrace other cultures equally, sometimes it's easy to be very shy about it. But I do not feel my ethnicity is superior to any other ethnicity, I'd like to think we all started equal and it's our life choices that alter that.
+James V don't worry i understand :) my situation i pretty similar lol
+James V well said man and I know how you feel lol
pretty much as long as you dont bully anyone over there race. everybodys the same
But what about other races? Because a lot of people are racist towards Asian or Middle eastern people.
There's a wide variety of these tests given by Harvard (I took the one between Asian Americans and European Americans). There's also ones for religion, gender, etc.
Go to the website of this test....
Middle easterners still classify into white because the white race spreads from Europe to the Middle East
they have that too online
Middle eastern is not a race idiot
Jesus buzzfeed you are OBSESSED with race.
It would probably go In the order Whites, Asians, Mestizos, Arabs, Blacks.
You know what they say, a racist mind is a racist kind.
Ibef Nordin that's a horrible thing to say 😦.
Kysonscience are you talking about the different shades of skin or racial interests? 😇
AAproductions Yeah, just like the rest of the world
Why is that when the topic of race is discussed it's about black or white?
+Akon Fenty Because you only fit into 1 category. There is no in between. I have family from the same country, but different color skin tones, and one is seen as black the other is seen as white. They're both Hispanic.
+United We Stand Divided We Fall ummm, but what about people who are both??? And Asians...?
JenDoesNotCare if you're mixed with black and white you're black. That's just the way it is seen in the world. Asians fit into their own category. It depends on the skin tone. Again this is just how it is seen in the world.
United We Stand Divided We Fall Stop following that slavery one drop rule, I'm mixed and that's the dumbest rule and makes no sense.
Akon Fenty So Obama isn't seen as the first black president?
this test doesnt even seem to have any actual science behind it. it has less to do with your subconscious and more to do with your reflexes and how quickly you can match the image/word to the correct key.
+AmnesiacCa3sar there lies all the science. The rapidity with which you can match the corresponding data varies greatly depending on which set of terms and images you have to correlate. In those types of survey, even half a second can be relevant. This is actually a very frequent method in sociological surveys, and in my field, in sociolinguistics.
That's a reason it's so controversial.
+AmnesiacCa3sar It's pretty legit actually. For example, in the weight test, I could easily match the good words with the skinny people and the bad with the fat people, while I couldn't do it the other way around as well. I'm fully aware of this bias however. It isn't even a bias, though; I just don't like unhealthy people. I also hate the test because it doesn't bother saying "fit;healthy" people. It just says skinny...
+Mike M for me it was my memory
I just realized that I had "I just don't like healthy people" in my comment. I meant to say unhealthy.
I got strong European American
I'm black
+master williams That shows how strong the cultural influence is
Same :/
Whitewashed at its finest.
well you probably grew up in a mostly white area, which is most of the USA (assuming you're American)
I mean... I grew up in an all white neighborhood, went to a nearly all white school, I have a white stepfather and black mom (even though I'm black), but I got no preference to both races. Which is very true to me I think
WAIT. Is the narrator in these Buzzfeed videos Chantel? MIND BLOWN.
maybe!!
It is
Shontelle 😂
This girl asked me if I had a crush and when I said no she's like "So you only like people from your country?"
I'm black btw but "my country" is America. It's amazing how she didn't even realize how racist/stereotypical she was being. She said she thought I was from India...
+xchocofairy How long ago was that?
+Doctor Insane Weeks ago, maybe a month. Everytime I see her I'm like -_- She also said this girl (who is Indian) was Korean I'm like seriously what's your deal with race.
+xchocofairy Sounds to me like she's just ignorant... Better to try to help her understand better than just automatically excuse her for being racist
+Hej you'd be suprised, my mother looks indian my father looks white but they're both black (mixed) as well as i, it's just genes really
She thought you were from India? Wow...
I did this and the faces scared me a lil, idk why
+Natalie Lim same
Both of you have prejudices against cropped jpg images, thats why.
When will you all grow up?
+lord_maximus i grew up only in an environment only seeing .png and i just got used to it. those were the images i always hanged around so i guess that might be what caused it.
+Natalie Lim SAME.
how do you do it
My preference to European Americans was off the chart
Welp Drumf
Mine too and I feel no shame.
of course
Is anyone shocked? Nope
*It's over 9000!*
I'm mixed I grew up in a white neighbourhood around white people, I got a preference for white people result
Strong
+Not A meme hi
sorry to hear that
+Stefan The Cannon why?
I got a weak automatic preference for African Americans and I grew up in a town with like 3 black people. But it's totally right.
2:18 let's get this teen hearts beating faster faster
SO TESTOSTERONE BOYS AND HARLEQUIN GIRLSSSS
+okay... Will you dance to this beat, and hold a lover close?
I heard that and I was like "lemme look through the comments and see if someone saw the reference"
Phanicathedisco same but nobody did except me
I freaked out seeing this comment. A HARDER TOUCH A BETTER F*CK
I cant take the test! HOW WILL I KNOW I'F IM RACIST OR NOT!
guess you'll just never know man
I think Buzzfeed sent too many people to take the quiz and it broke the server :P
+Thanks4TheLolz YOU ARE RACIST BC YOU JUST KILLED WITH LAUGHTER A HALF ASIAN HALF SOUTH AMERICAN.
how does it feel to be racist!? when will it be enough 😩
+Rumer Priestly or maybe... the server if RACIST!! 😧
Your profile picture fits perfectly.
I think everyone has a racial bias to a degree, not to mention there are different racial biases. People wouldn't imagine poc to be racist, but as a Korean, I've seen many asians be racist to either other asians or hispanics and black, even white people. The important part is I think being able to catch yourself when you are, and constantly be learning to broaden your horizon.
do YOU see colour or are you color-blind to race 🧐? you can these individuals take the race test here: czcams.com/video/wArxYKzVViE/video.html
"Your data suggest a moderate automatic preference for African American compared to European American." I am the whitest girl ever, and I live in a fairly white city...... I mean I'm really ok with this result, but it's not what I expected.
+Emily S Baozi tho.
PlasmaFairy5 ding dong you are wrong!! this is kim sungkyu^^
Emily S Oh snap you're right! They both look like hamsters xD
PlasmaFairy5 ehehe yea i can see the resemblance in my icon!! two lil cutie pies~
+Emily S It's not that accurate, just an online test.
Everyone has some sort of racial bias -subconsciously or not. This does not make them racist though.
Everyone is a tiny bit racist whether they want to be or not.
True, I got "moderate automatic preference to white people" I'm black, it's not because I hate my OWN race!
+IS IT JUST ME OR I wouldn't trust this test at all. I got slightly racist. It is nowhere perfect, it is an awful test.
Paradox Productions well (not trying to be rude) what if it was telling you what you hurried deep in your head and u choose not to bring it out, and the test wasn't for race it was for preference
I think it's got less to do with race and more to do with being part of a group. You could sepperate people by eye colour, hair colour, musical taste or religion - biases would be formed, or are already formed for that matter, in the same way.
I think Grade A Under A has a great test to inform you whether you're racist or not.
I got slight preference to white, probably because everyone at my school is either white, Indian, or Asian
Same
Indians are Asian. lol
Oops, meant East Asians
Same
everyone at my school is hispanic/mexican
"Black is related to coal or darkness"... ok should i not relate green to grass and blue to the sky?
... Everyone does associate green with grass and blue with the sky though... Unless this comment was sarcastic and I'm just being oblivious right now.
***** DEY TERK AR JERBS!!!!
+Cyberlord yeah, you're completely obvious right now. lmfao
+Cyberlord Yes, my point is that associating colours with things that are that colour is not racism.
+catennator Ever play Baldur's Gate 2? There's a scene in it that shows that there's a way to make any color horrible.
"Your data suggest little to no automatic preference between European American and African American."
I'm both African American and European American mixed, I guess that's ideal.
Sammmmeee
Yayyyy i'm not the only one. Let's join forces. 😂
Me too!!! I got the same results. I thought I would have a really strong preference to African American but I'm glad I can just stay in the middle
I'm mixed and I have a moderate preference for European Americans 😁
+Lara Pursell I'm Black & got the same results. I thought I would have a preference for African Americans too haha.
i did this test and had No preferences
Me too
me too
Me too
I did the test and i got no preference
+Revolutionary 247 Me too.
same
We are the elites of society.
Same
same
Not going to show the bit where the universities behind this study "make no claim for the validity of these suggested interpretations"? I mean, it's not like you get used to pressing in one location for good, only to then have it swapped, so you have to work against muscle memory. In other words, this test is a load of BS.
Anyone with a brain should know that. Nothing as complicated as that can be explained with a test. It's just to show there may be some truth behind it all not be fact.
+Thomas Bridgewater don't forget people who have some difficulty in focusing and concentrating during a task. my friend got some wrongs right at the first stage and that was just to identify races.
***** You being "sure" of it doesn't mean they actually did, or that they actually did so accurately. The disclaimer even says that the interpretations may not be valid.
well we do have the nice inaccurate way to measure intelligence called IQ tests. so this may as well be 100% correct.
I got little to no preference
same
+J Boyd same
+J Boyd me too
+J Boyd same
+J Boyd samesies.i grew up in an international school so i was friends with people from different races:)
white or black? what about asians? O.o;;
there was another test for that :))))
soju69jinro the test is racist
The test also may come in Dark Skin-Light Skin preferences so you may take that version if you want.
Lol
I got "little to no preference" and I have never felt more reassured.
You are in the KKK
dude same
I don't understand how their results were determined... Can someone help
+Cheyanna Cooper Basically it is a game which determined by if you pressed the letter to correct corresponding item. It would work the same if it was a blue square or a red square. People would always prefer either the red or blue square depending on how quick they are at learning the word associations to the keys. I for instance had a preference for black people in that test. I don't have any black friends at all. It just means I was good at the game. For the people who scored in the higher end to white people they are kind of on the stupid scale of humanity.
+Cheyanna Cooper Supposedly it checks the speed at which you classify black or white people with good or bad, if you connected white faster with good than when black was with good then you would have a preference for white european people.
Something to take into consideration though, they want you to get the white tendency in a way because the first time you play black is with good and once you get a hang of it then white is with good, and it would make sense for you to connect them faster if you already understand how to play.
oh thanks so much! this is really helpful :)
+Cheyanna Cooper Yeah, it's pretty silly.
+ExodusX13 So if you score on the higher end to black people you're smart?
1:16 she knows shes low key racist but afraid to be exposed on camera
Agreed
+Alrighty Then yeahhh
I knew she was racist 😄
+Alrighty Then If she was, buzzfeed would of sniffed it out and hung her.
+sℋε ✩ Aℳℯ✘hƴst Why are you laughing at her? Now she can fix her viewpoint because she obviously knows that it's wrong, and yet, everyone forgets that she knows that.
To debunk, at least in part this test, it's called muscle memory. Them switching the adjectives after such a long time makes you press left for the thing that was just switched. Then, this is wrong.
It gives you a few more rounds in the middle which they did not show. For example, they switch European American and African American without the words and then do it again. Also, muscle memory does not develop within minutes.
I got no preference which is pretty funny bc my family is republican, racist, homophobic, transphobic, VERY racist and I always find myself telling them off for it
coward you are not easily brainwashed . I scored no preference either .
I got little or no automatic prefence
+walkthemoon same
+walkthemoon Same here
+walkthemoon Same here
+walkthemoon same
+walkthemoon Same.
I got "little to no preference", but tbh this isn't about thinking they are good or bad, it's more about how coordinated you are and how fast you react. Obviously the second time when they change sides you are more used to doing it and you do it faster.
+ValeNyan but still I did this before watching the entire video so I did the skincolor version instead of the race one
This is a test of attention span, not racial bias.
I like how they use 'European American', signifying that white people are not the 'standard' American, and black people are not 'substandard American'. They all originate from elsewhere, very recently. That is what I love. Native Americans are the real deal.
Lady Pinkymoe yup
Why does buzzfeed even dare to upload videos titled like this
+sweetlife6299 i bet they're gnna change it in a few hours, they change their titles most of the time
+sweetlife6299 because we all have one
Because they are some of the most sensitive contemporary social issues...and Buzzfeed has an extremely wide audience to gauge their reaction...
Why not? Is there a problem?
what's wrong with the title? everyone is racially biased, it's how you're raised. where you live, who you live around effects how you perceive other people. all their doing is showing a topic, then a video to open the discussion, and hope you have a conversation with another person. creating dialogue helps solve issues. just because one is racial bias does not make one racist, the actions you take will determine if your racist.
I am not ok with my results. I got "slight preference to European Americans"
I was hoping for neutral.
But I think the reason why people had biased results wasn't exactly because of race, but more so because people are more drawn to other people that they identify more with.
For example if the test was about blondes and brunettes, I think my results would be the same, simply because I have blonde hair and I would identify more with people with blonde hair.
This test was based from muscle memory, not preference at all. This test is very unreliable, so don't feel bad that it told you that you have a natural and instinctive preference towards your own people.
Everyone was hoping for neutral.
+Steph Mariee Therein lies the problem.
I'm black, but I have a moderate preference for white people
Okay but if I got with a blonde guy when I'm older, and we had kids, it might look weird, I feel like we only want to make our kids "look the best" so yeah it's natural because most blondes have similar skin tones etc. however I would get with a blonde girl, and all non-binary genders
I had to take this same test for my psych class last semester and everyone in my lecture hall was equally upset over their results too.
I got no automatic preference
took this test a few weeks ago and my result was little to no preference so i'm happy
Being Racialy Bias DOES NOT MAKE YOU A RACIST. Going out of your way to make another race feel inferior does.
I like this video. :) Love these people. Gives me a bit of hope again. It seems pretty understandable that growing up we'd gain racial biases no matter if we're harmfully racist or not. Like that one girl said, having a preference doesn't mean you can't still have an open mind and heart. I love when people are able to break stereotypes and be themselves. Because they're influenced by what their family does too. So sometimes stereotypes can seem true, but people will always be different and evolving. But even if you do happen to fit a stereotype, it isn't a horrible thing. Nothing that anyone should be ashamed of unless it's harmful to ones self or others. I think race should be talked about openly without it always being stressful. Just like when I grew up with a variety of kids from other cultures, we got along and had great times just being ourselves as well as exploring and sharing each others cultures. I'm curious where it went wrong that I became and felt so disconnected from others and like race differences became something I should be quiet about. Cuz I'm sure it's gotta be a few factors at least. Anyway. I liked this video. I feel a bit better. Thank you.
I took it and got no automatic preference, and I low key feel kinda proud about that.
This test seemed sketchy. You can't base racism on muscle memory and having people click quickly.
I was expecting an actual intellectual test, asking simple yes, no, or indifferent answers that people could do quickly without having much thought into them.
This test just seemed to be conditioning our neural muscles.
I got "no preference" on my test which is weird because white people make me SO uncomfortable.
Lol why?
Omg me too,I know that racists but it happens to me all the time.
why?
Gonçalo Martins why wouldn't I be? I live in the south too, and that makes it worse. Primarily it's kind of like I'm always subconsciously worried that some white person is going to notice some temporary flaw I have and blame it on my being black. "Why do black girls think their hair looks good like that" or something like that
Why do they make you uncomfortable
The beginning sounded like a video I would have to watch at school... I liget frgt this was a buzzfeed video 😂
I took a different test on this website..... I was so confused
This test is such crap lol
I feel like this test should just be labeled 'guilt trip'.
"Your data suggest little to no automatic preference between European American and African American."
+imke sanders me too.
all it means is you have a preference for familiarity, what seems closest to yourself.
Serious question: Outside of politics do average Americans really get so worked up about/try to avoid the subject of race?
+Malos Kain Many Americans do try to avoid talking about race because a lot of people automatically think that talking about race makes one racist even though it does not. Since people don't want to be seen as racist, many Americans will avoid the topic.
Frank Roosevelt is completely correct.
We feel like it will make us look racist if we talk about it.
the average White American avoids talking about race. black, Asian, Middle Eastern Hispanic and Native have no problem talking about race
Yes, because we are usually beat to a pulp (figuratively) when we talk about race, especially if it's in a slightly bad way.
Let's just say everything is racist and save ourselves some time. :D
PREACH!
Everyone's a little bit racist!
It's truuuuue
Everyone's about as racist as
You!
If we all could just admit!
That we are racist
A little bit!
And everyone stopped being
So pc
Maybe we could live in
Harmony
i have a moderate preference to african americans to eurapians
Diana Mkay Not being mean, but do you mean European?
Brianna Carter yeah lol
That's racist...
Can you do another test from that site?
If you cannot see how terribly flawed this test is, then you don't understand experimentation.
First- word association to race is presented 1 way and then reversed. This trains the user to respond 1 way, causing additional errors initially when the associations are reversed.
Second, and possibly more importantly, there is no control to gage a persons hand-eye coordination and dexterity. I am certain that PC Gamers (specifically people who use a computer keyboard when gaming) would have the lowest rates of racial preference according to this test, merely because you've removed a mental obstacle. Now they only have to deal with the association, not also the extra association of what key then corresponds.
Making a control would not be difficult, and I have a suspicion that they used to have a control, but removed it, because the amount of practice it provided removed any "traces" of racism they wanted to have appear.
So essentially they should have round 1 be a square and a circle, and you click left or right. Round 2 should be word association with those shapes. Round 3 should invert the word associations. THEN you could do it with races.
I am fairly certain you would see similar results which they claimed were "preferences" not because people are shape-ists, but merely because the task requires 2 mental associations (word to shape, shape to key).
...but even if they were worried the practice round was nullifying their results, they should take a statistically representative sample performing the test with shapes to determine whether or not the erroneously input keys followed a similar pattern to the races (as I predict it would). If so, then all variation in the test can be attributed to hand eye coordination, recall, and association inversion.
The other *easy* way to eliminate a variable would be to have a palette cleanser, rather than inverting the races immediately, they could add a shape round and a number round in between. They would also need to make which race was associated with good or bad words first be random. This wouldn't be as good as the previous mechanisms I listed, but it would be better than the terrible methodology they actually released.
Yeh it tripped me up bad when it switched. I got strong automatic preference for whites over blacks and i am 100% black myself. If the test started off with white people associated with negative words as oppose to black, then when it switched id still associate the two subconsciously so id end up getting the result that i prefer blacks over whites.
+Layla B it isn't reliable. The biggest problem is memory interference isn't normalized through random association order. The second biggest problem is a non-random and statistically unrepresentative sample size that doesn't account for skill factor. It also fails to be double blind, as what is being tested is presented to the users initially and transparent throughout.
Lastly the correlation of word to face is inferred rather than deduced. They went in with a hypothesis (that word/face association would be indicative of racial preference) and then never tested that claim in any way. Ergo, all results are invalid.
I don't think it's necessarily a bad thing if you prefer one group over another. It's like dating, you might prefer one ethnicity over another but you're not blocking yourself from them, it's just a preference and who you feel more comfortable with and who you were raised around more. This test doesn't determine if you're racist but just if you prefer some over another, we can't help it, it's subconscious
I think one of the most important things to remember while taking this test and something generally about life is something my grandma taught me: the first thing you think is what you have been conditioned to think. the next thing you think is what you actually believe.
I had to take several of these for a sociology class last year, and it was actually super interesting. The test itself isn't perfect and there's obviously room for error/incorrect "diagnosis," but it's pretty interesting to see. I'm Asian, but I ended up with a slight preference for European Americans. We also took the weapons/violence one and I got a slight association between African Americans and weapons. It's really interesting to think of how much culture and how I was raised shapes what I now unconsciously think.
i took the test and i got "Little to no preference". Im pretty happy with it...
Either I had heard wrong or the Asian guy said data as dada
Jennifer, what is your Chinese name?
***** Does that matter? No offense
It matters because I am one of the few Asians in the comment section that has an Asian name?. I bet Asians with an English name liked your comment.
Data is pronounced two different ways lol. It's like Caribbean.
Some people pronounce data "dada"
How do I take the test? I clicked on the link but it just said stuff about the purpose of the test and didn't have anything to click to take a test
I tried to take this and it said "there were too many errors to determine a result" because I kept pressing the wrong keys.
I got little to no automatic preference between races.
+Abigail-Grace Murray (TheArtistBug) I also took the gay one and I got moderate automatic preference for gay people compared to straight people.
+_blue_morpho_ i got a slight preference for gay people lol
To everyone taking the test, don't over judge yourself too much, and please don't feel bad for the results it's not your fault, these are just what has been engraved into our heads and which are now subconscious. The white girl looked so sad I felt sad for her. all these racial debates are putting people down and making people feel ashamed of themselves. I love my people but I don't support constant fights and petty whines that make others feel down because of decisions they make or things they do subconsciously. Black people calm down, not everyone out here's just out to get you!
"This task will take about five minutes to complete"
Thats what she said!
When I took this test, I showed no preference over one or the other.
There is a difference between being racist and having a racial preference.
Racism is a *dislike* of someone because of their skin, which is an unjust viewpoint. If this test has the result of "slight" to begin with, that isn't dislike. It is an opinion about something. Therefore, it is not racism.
Just because I say that I prefer tea over coffee, doesn't automatically mean that I dislike coffe. I'll drink coffee, and it really does taste good and has benefits of caffeiene. I just _prefer_ tea. I am not predjudiced against coffee. Having a racial preference is just based on your experiences.
But... this is Buzzfeed where they take everything up to 11. What did I expect.

LETS GET THESE TEEN HEARTS BEATING FASTER AND FASTER
PANIC! At The Disco😍😍YASSS
took the test high af and got that middle thingy no preference love peace and unity guys
I took another one it's Asian American and European American , it's the same... no difference. but when I did this one .... its a slight preference to European American
i think a lot of people are misunderstanding the purpose of this test. it's not saying "you're racist!!!!!!!!"
having a slight racial preference isn't necessarily a bad thing and it doesn't always mean you're antagonistic toward another race! we took this test in one of my college courses that dealt w/ racial issues and many people in my class had strong racial preferences, but from what i observed they were not bigoted or prejudiced at all! i would argue that it's natural to have a racial preference, especially if you grew up in a positive environment that was primarily filled with people of that race. having a subconscious preference is different than voicing "african-americans are bad!" to put it into simple terms, i can't choose what tastes good to me, but just because something doesn't taste good to me doesn't mean it's bad, it doesn't even mean i think it's bad!
on the test, i had a moderate preference for african-american and i would venture to say this preference stems from the fact that i had an awesome black babysitter when i was very young. your brain makes subconscious associations w/ things that are safe or unsafe in order to protect you. sometimes that goes awry(xenophobes) but for the most part it's benign. if your racial preference doesn't present itself in bigotry or microaggressions then that means you are actively trying to combat that racial preference and that's not a bad thing at all. if you do have a racial preference it's good to be aware of it. there is so much stigma around discussing race, but it needs to be talked about.
this is not a compelling study, because your muscle reflexes can automatically conforms to what you have done first so your mind is thinking it was used to be right and you click right but it was already on the left side.
+omi tzukiyono yeah
+omi tzukiyono yeah, that's what happened to me and i messed up more because they moved the wrods
"I want to learn so I can change my ways."
They literally said it is uncontrollable.
This reminds me of all the tests I had to do to test if I had ADD
I'd rather decide on my own set of morals than let a broadly generalised internet test tell me what they are.
when you know the truth, then you don't need someone else to tell you if you're wrong or right.
I got "little to no automatic preference," but I'm not inclined to believe that.
We do need to talk about who has power over who... thats the point.
Why is it black and white though? I wish it was more broad than that.
+Jaleh Turner Actually a lot of books on ethnic studies refer to how White is viewed as the correct culture while Black people could literally be anything that is "other" than white.
So with that in mind, this test uses "black" as the "other."
In other words it wouldn't matter if it were more broad because White will always be the correct culture for someone with a racial bias. Even when they are of another race themselves.
+Jaleh Turner terms black and white have caused polarization. those terms are a big part of the racial problem.
"Your data suggest a strong automatic preference for European American compared to African American. "
I feel SO disappointed about this result, I try and keep my mind open to every single person no matter their background or beliefs. So this definitely is a bit shocking to me.
+Vercingetorix The Third. actually, the point is not to make people feel bad. It's for self reflection. In my opinion we should all work to eliminate our racial biases to the best of our ability, not be content with it. And I disagree that it's natural. My score was no preference.
Malcolm Wilson it is natural, strangers ad unknown entities are not to be trusted simply because they are different and could pose a threat. In the wild if something could kill you, no matter how small that chance is, you will find it threatening.
+Paulius Daunys Decide your own set of morals, don't let a test promoted by buzzfeed (of all people) tell you what they are.
+fashyhairdo we are not cavemen, are we?
+Paulius Daunys I am a white person living in a predominantly white country, and I got strong preference to African American. I think the test is not that accurate, since it really seems to depend on things like the order of the combinations. My test started with African-Bad, European-Good combiantion, and ended with African-Good, European-Bad. At that point I was probably faster with the task in general, since I had already gotten used to it. I also don't think that I connected the faces to the words at all, I just put the words and faces to the directions the task required.
Mine was just as expected and just boring to do. It felt like playing bop it 😂
I took the test and was very confused. My brain can't focus on two different things at once.
We aren't born racist... how did all this happen?
***** no baby has a racial prefrence
+Modern_Swagster social conditioning and the media pretty much alters our thought processes.
Actually, you're wrong. Little black girls in the study that I read chose white dolls because they were considered "prettier". So please, I'm not here for your condescension
***** Yeah, still incorrect. For one, there is no "social conditioning conspiracy", just as White people are no longer the majority in the United States. Question: are you African-American and if so, what made you come this these conclusions?
+Modern_Swagster 17th Century propaganda.
Oh my gosh the woman with the pink glasses!! Makes me want pink glasses, they look so damn good on her!
I have no automatic preference. 😀
"There were too many fast trials to determine a result"
The test didn't work for me.
so i'm portuguese (europe) and I got a slight automatic preference for African American compared to European American.
É bem, também me acalhou preferivel para African American e sou o gajo mais branco da minna Escola
+HellsGamers ProBoss Same 😂 parece que tivemos uma boa educação em relação a estas coisas
+Inês Fonseca ME TOO! aha
+Inês Fonseca I'm European American and got moderate preference for African American
+Inês Fonseca that's not a good thing..
How do these tests work I don't understand the rules?
i got "no automatic preference" i love everyone equally, but i also grew up around a wide variety of race and religion.
Just took the test, I have no preference to either race. I was thinking because I my family is pretty racist I thought that may have some impact on the testing but I guess not, yay.
Your so cute
