Ouvia tua voz e queria despertar. Vc me recuperou pra vida. Bravo querido Tenor!!!
Not sure how he sang the emotion he must have felt surely must have caught in his throat. When you thing how he nearly died and how this was six months after he left hospital - he was treated for months afterwards as an out patient as well - it is astonishing. Then to say to himself I'm more interested in doing something for leukaemia patients than the rivalries in music(who's the best no longer mattered) and to start his foundation which is amazing. I have nothing but admiration for him as a singer, his voice is like no other but more importantly for him as a man
@kate f Thank you very much for your comment. I do totally agree with you. It's really amazing to sing such a recital of such high artistic level - and this only 6 months after his recovery from leucemia. I also have nothing but admiration for him, both as a singer and as a man.
Back in 1992 I managed to find a video recording of this concert. I was so moved, I sat in silence for a half hour after watching it. I still have that video, but the quality of this is wonderful. Thank you so much for sharing. I am moved all over again. I can never stop loving this tenor. 🙏
I do believe that this programme was carefully chosen as a thanksgiving for his recovery. He has never lacked emotional depth, but this is something special. Thanks so much for uploading...listening with tears of appreciation and gratitude!
Maravilloso . .
Thank you for sharing this wonderful historic moment of José Carreras' return to the Vienna Staatsoper! As I was not able at that time to attend the performance in Vienna, I appreciate the opportunity to witness it here on CZcams. It is a gift of God that, after many months of treatment, he was able to recover from his severe leucaemia and return to stage. I admire him very much, not only as a tenor but also as a man full of sensitiveness, passion and affection.
I apologize in advance my dear friends. Jose Carreras is only 42 years old and in rhis concert. Sadly his voice is already dwindling. My wife and I saw the that great leontyne price when she was 47 years old. She sang for two incredible hours. The most difficult Arias from her repertoire. It was standing room only. My wife and I have never heard a voice like MADAME PRICE. before head my dad or my mother and my wife's best friend Jenna Miller. The voice was fully intact and something's really incredible to listen to. The concert hall went Wild after each Aria. When she sang La mamma morta what she never performed on stage it was simply beautiful at that point we realized then we would never hear anything like this again such a great lady so generous and true to the art form. Sad to say Jose Carreras only at the age of 42 did not sing one difficult aria. A Perfect example to have a beautiful lyric tenor voice ruin their voice in singing difficult spinto roles. I have the CD La Boheme and Traviata with Ileana cotrubas in the Med 70s his voice was incredible there are two live recordings at Covent Garden. Ileana cotrubas was wise retiring when she no longer had a high e. What incredible music she sang and that beautiful high e was never pushed forced xcetera. And the 1970s Jose Carreras was absolutely wonderful The Most Beautiful lyric voice in the world. My wife absolutely just loved his voice and so do all my friends. Sincerely Arnold Bourbon Amaral. P.S. thank you Jose for recording beautiful and performing beautiful OPERAS in the 1970s and early 80s.🙏🌍🌎🌏🌿👴
Harsh given that this is the first recital he sang in a concert hall with no amplification, after his leukaemia battle. It took place in the September of 1988 he was only released from hospital in the USA at the end of February and his out patient treatment continued for many months after that as he recovered from the effects of a devastating illness. It takes a couple of years at least to recover from Chemotherapy, radiotherapy and a transplant - some people never do. Taking all of that into consideration this concert is astonishing. Before you shout me down and repeat what you have said about the heavier rep he sang I would say that when you listen to him he had some of his great successes singing those roles and right up until he was ill with leukaemia he was in demand everywhere at all the leading opera houses. I admire his courage but more than that I love this concert because he sounds wonderful.
Arnold Amaral , what are you talking about Orice and your wife and your friends !!??? Are you stupid !?? CARRERAS here was recovering from LEUKEMIA !!! Do you know what does that mean ??? Furthermore , do not compare the fine pronounce and the perfect “modo di porgere” of CARRERAS ..... PRICE , on the other side , was just screaming like an Eagle , no Pronounce, no “fraseggio” , no “legato” ...... I see you are not a Musician but just an “amateur” ! You should shut up !! Go to complain somewhere else , you and your bulllshits !!!
Arnold Amaral you clearly have no idea what is it like to survive a deadly disease. The man survived leukemia, for God's sake. Learn some basic facts before you type all this bullshit.
