  • Residents in the village of Rye Brook are on high alert after multiple bobcat sightings.
The Rye Brook Police Department posted a message on Facebook on Sunday, warning people about the big cats roaming the area.
They say bobcats have been spotted near Rockinghorse Trail and Country Ridge Drive.
Officers are now patrolling those areas, but residents are warned to close their garage doors. They say the animals may go into open garages to get warm.

I'm sure this is related to the teraing up of large wooded areas to build more $700,000 to $1mil homes...
Same has been happening in my area far East of NY.
Never seen a bobcat before, even though we've known they're around... Same for fisher cats and black bear. Coyotes are abundant here.
Now with constantly ripping up wooded areas for multi million dollar developments all around, they're suddenly becoming more common to see wandering about .
As these animals are running out of safe environments to live, they begin to search for other prospects.
When their food supplies scatter and become scarce, they become desperate.
We just keep tearing everything up to build more over priced homes with no potential buyers, and wondering why wild animals are coming into our neighborhoods🤔
The human race is the worst plague to ever befall the Earth. Ignorant and stupid.

I live in southern Ohio and bobcats are normal. A few good reminders when your walking in wooded areas think to look up into the trees where your walking. They really do dislike being around people and most likely run from you once your seen by them, thats why I take an air horn and a stun gun in dont want to kill anything just stand a chance to get away. Coyotes and feral dogs are more of a danger than bobcats. Keep a eye out in areas that contain creeks, or source of water and ravines, hillsides where they can find a den to sleep in.

Usually seen around Orange County California with the mountain lion/cougar/pumas but they are very solitary, also if people find an exotic stray kitten on the road and you hear a strange sound that doesn’t sound like a normal house cat it’s probably a bobcat and you raise it humanely until it’s old enough to live on its own after saving it from being killed instantly from several different things: automobiles, stray dogs that have a tendency to kill cats, wild human beings aka criminals that would just abuse the living daylight out of it, etc, so make sure that not only the wildlife experts are notified but the ASPCA as well if you live in the Tristate area, and make sure it eats well like a normal cat or dog, and always provide great care for it until it’s time for release. Bobcats do look like normal house cats only a little bit bigger and has a personality to be very dangerous if cornered and also they horseplay a lot, their growls or screams sound like humans because they have a very good talent to impersonate human screams especially 10 year old boy screams, so if you hear a scream from a cat that sounds like a 10 year old boy then it’s a bobcat

Leave the poor cats alone and don't leave your animals unattended - people and pets do more damage than bobcats ever will. Jfc.

Noticing you are referring to people, but do you solely mean adults, they look like they could hurt children?

How come these cats NEVER MAKE IT, into the hood?! It’s always north of the Cross County Parkway. Are they afraid of ending up as a dish, in Mount Vernon or Yonkers?!?!
    😅😅

That’s why they stay at bay, from island people…
They know they get 1” near a Dominican or Jamaican establishment, might accidentally end up in a dish.
