Please let me know what your thoughts are. Is a February launch feasible, or are we more likely looking at a delay until March? Get your crystal balls out and share your predictions in the comments.
Crystal balls?????
Monitor "mariTEEM"? Sorry Felix but that maritime is pronounced "mariTIME"
It's not a big deal, except that your area seems to have quite a number of words that are pronounced significantly incorrectly compared to most of the USA/Canada, etc.
So I mean no insult but I'm going to try to help correct things for you. It's bizarre because out of 100s of thousands(or millions) of words I've heard from you for years, you're always right except for the very odd word.
Stop Click Bait Titles!!
You are smarter than this
CZcams does not randomly unsubscribe accounts. It just comes across desperate, you do starship updates, you’re not going to get a million subscribers doing that alone.
Nope, the pentagon can pay for each launch and starship.
Military purchase of Starships for military uses is no different than having Boing or other aircraft builders that sell to military.
Starship will get troops around the world far quicker than the navy or air force.
Yes it's just as abhorrent
@@AWBepi150 ton throw weight - currently. With a Pez style dispenser that can throw satellites and you think the Pentagon wants that to move troops? Lol, I don’t think soooo
Yet Musk shut down Starlink so the Ukrainian military couldn't attack (with drone boats) Russian warships that were firing missiles at civilians.
He said he didn't want the technology used for war.
I guess when you need money, those scruples become less important.
The spooks had a bunch of Hubble class space telescopes just laying around. They gave 3 to NASA. Look it up.
The spaceforce already booked falcon 9 and falcon heavy launches, didn't they? So i expect starship to be no different.
Yep. I think the Space force has been licking their lips ever since the 1st launch of Starship. Once SpaceX proved they could get this beast off the ground, phones started ringing in the pentagon and the people you never see on TV started real time planning.
The difference here is that the DOD is looking to operate their own Starships... not just to book flights with SpaceX. It's not clear what they want to use them for, but I suspect they have some concerns about needing a clear distinction between civilian and military operations, and how to avoid the former becoming a target.
This has already been a hot topic in the context of SpaceX with the use of Starlink in Ukraine, and whether coopting a civilian network to guide attacks on the Russians is crossing a line. Note that the DOD is also looking to have SpaceX build a military-specific constellation... not because they don't trust Starlink, but because they want to avoid civilian infrastructure being considered a military target.
Additionally I wanna add that in case of DoD involvement allow mark SpaceX as military contractor. So it will remove lot of bureaucratic red tape. It's very likely due recent developments in china space programs.
@@just_archan Now that makes sense!
I think the pentagon might be planning to work "International Rescue"
"Thunderbirds are GO!"
Well. For heavy lift and rapid deployment, they might as well make reality, the fictional Thunderbird 2 (1964, max speed 5K mph, payload 100 tons).
Or Are They Already Working On It? Some big flying something is scaring sheep in England. ;)
After all, 1960's science fiction craft right? Rocket Lab is working on the "You Only Live Twice (1967)" Neutron. Secret volcano base extra.
🤣
Aren't you above clickbait Felix?
"Can we lease a starship?" = "MILITARY TAKEOVER!!!" apparently
This channel gets more obnoxious all the time
Yeah I fear Felix is on a slippery slope, this isn't the first example. Starship doesn't need extra dramatics!
I hate these kinds of headlines, bcoz a lot of people spit they’re mouth with just a title like these!!
Fake news per say!!
I get it you gotta be productive to have more audience. But still.. i hate these stuffs
I wish he was but he clearly is not and it is disappointing..
The Department of Defense is a BIG reason why we even have the Starship program in the first place. Yes, it will be used for private exploration and enterprises, but the military will get their version(s) as well.
It wouldn't surprise me that several launchsites at KSC will be built for a Space Force Starship capability.
The Department of Defense version of SpaceX's Starship is NASA. A failure. LoL
Most stupid idea ever. Nothing like a great big old Starship for someone with just a shoulder launched missile or a $100 drone to salivate over blowing up while it slowly lands. May as well paint a target on it. Who comes up with these insane ideas?
Actually no. The SLS program, that was the Air Force.

4:19 The blast wall construction looks familiar. I think I saw a similar structure some years ago in Berlin.
Absolutely love your channel. There are limited options when it comes to space news and those handful of you that have been brave and enterprising enough to jump on an opportunity to build a niche on CZcams deserve every bit of reward for doing so. You also deserve to control your own work, make your own decisions and do whatever “you” want to do on “you” tube, within reason of course. Can’t wait to see each new episode. Thank you again for your work, it’s yours and it’s free- and that’s amazing.
What about the pay trons 😅
Since before we landed on the moon, there have been hundreds of military projects that were planned by various people, but almost all of those have been deemed either impossible because of weight or uneconomical. With starship, all of those projects are back on the table, and that includes orbital dropships, tungsten rod bunker busters, resupply missions for cut off troops, suborbital drone swarm deployment and many more, some classified some are not. What Space Force wants to do now, is to have their own fleet of starships that they will maintain and customize without needing to involve SpaceX staff and to keep it secret. This is very common thing to do where military purchases civilian technology but they are handling maintenance and upgrades by themselves, and that includes things like Air force one, which is a civilian boeing 747 but had a lot of modifications made and is being maintained by air force.
"Get your crystal balls out...".
Felix, never change my dude.
Felix the precast concrete barriers are called T walls and have been used in Iraq and Afghanistan for blast protection for decades...
They were used in New Orleans for levees and flood protection... unsuccessfully.....
who?
They are even on construction sites as a protection
Thanks for the update!
You’re welcome! ❤️
Thanks for the update Felix, you rock😊
One thing about the launch complex seldom mentioned is that the whole OLM and tank farm are prototypes. They are using the same iterative process to determine what works, what needs to work better, and how to get a complex that can launch weekly or even daily.
The ground facilities are an order of magnitude more complex, more expensive and more important than getting to space.
I wanted a "starship update" 'cause I hadn't heard anything lately. I came to WAI - that simple
That's the place! :)
Thank You dear Felix
The Military will start a parallel program if the launches make it to orbit, refuel then return successfully There is just so many uses for this ship, 200 tons of payload from orbit to anywhere in the world or space.
Starship Troopers.
@@mauricegold9377 that's a good one lol
SpaceX will make so much money with this project alone. Just mind-blowing
"First rule of military spending, why settle for one when you can have two at twice the price" -Contact-
The thing is it will have to be deployed far away from the front as it will make a big honking target for any surface to air missile MANPAD. Also where is it going to land? It will have to be modified to have landing feet and once it lands how are they going to get it back?
Military takeover? The military is already massively involved in tracking development and possible implementation. It’s ballistic missile technology to start. Second the military Starlink option released this year. Finally, nasa has always had a strong military partnership. It shocks me the number of media people who fail to see all the active links and contracts.
I posted in few other places, it could be to remove red taping from other agencies if SpaceX is an "military contractor", and Starship is assigned as "national security issue". Despite popular view, Feds are not in Love with each other. And even there are procedures that has to be followed, because of law requirements. Military contractor status put this program in category of exempt from many of those redtaping.
Perhaps you should stop taking his headlines literally.
@7:17 So the next launch is on *St. Valentines'* day. That's somehow fitting. 🤔
I *_love_* to watch the biggest rocket(s) ever made go _Up, Up, and Away!_
Get your crystal balls out
Great job as always Felix!!
You guys are great
Strike One
Fun fact: In wartime, DoD can requisition airliners and passenger ships for use in transporting personnel and supplies. It makes sense to also requisition Starship capacity.
Fun fact: we're not at war. More fun: Requisitions can be denied; Truman couldn't seize the steel mills. Physical property can be seized by eminent domain, but that's not a requisition. Even more fun: The govt cannot force SpaceX to build anything they don't agree to. That would be slavery.
Even with all the wars going on America has not officially declared war for any of them...because that would require congressional over-site (by law). So no declared of war = no requisition = military can go f off.
I think…I would hope…ONLY after Congress has declared war…which it hasn’t done for 82 years.
Hands f’n off private companies tech
@@Philc231 that’s not how it works. All that “private tech” was paid for by the taxpayer.
Excellent stuff bro
I look forward to your updates!
I'm a subscriber and I usually watch every episode. Your content is generally good, if somewhat repetitive, when little to nothing happens at Starbase. However; these clickbait titles always makes me reconsider my subscription and wether I should reward these clickbaits with a view.
I can see two possibilities, either the government wants to take control from SpaceX by using the pentagon or the pentagon sees a resource that they a use for in the future as a contractor. The second is more likely or perhaps somewhere in between. With them involved, we may see less resistance and delays. On a side note, when you list metric and SAE values place the text for it on the screen simultaneously instead of separate. As a technician, I am used to looking at the one that applies to what I am doing and the tooling I am using and ignoring the other, this is easier when both are there at the same time.
The DOD has had it's eyes on Starship since well before the first launch. Any internet BS about friction between NASA and SpaceX, "spiteful" FAA delays or unnecessary static from ANY federal agency IS CLICKBAIT for the simple minded. The DOD isn't going to "takeover" SpaceX any more than they've taken over General Dynamics, Boeing, or Lockheed Martin. The US government isn't the CCP with ownership on all "private" companies. SpaceX was and is just another contractor for Uncle Sam!!!
Love the Channel/Updates,so consistent
Important to remember that NRO is under the purview of DOD, as is X-37B which is directly under Space Force. Falcon and Falcon Heavy have already been used to launch these. I see no reason why Starship wouldn't be involved in other DoD missions in the future.
Felix, the military has purchased use of Falcon 9 and Superheavy, and they will purchase flights on Starship, but they are not "taking over" Starship. Is this perhaps a problem with translation? Cheers
These click bates are going to kill this channel . So annoying !

I could see DoD wanting the ability to get 100+ tons of “supplies” to anywhere on the planet in less than an hour. Yes, it would have humanitarian uses, but it would be much more useful in supporting emergency remote ops in “difficult” regions. It would also send quite a message to the other side when massive rockets start dropping from the sky like a scene out of “War of the Worlds.”
Thanks so much for creating and sharing this informative and timely video. Great job. Keep it up.
Let’s just hope that the 3rd flight test will happen early and the military won’t take over starship
I wonder if the military has already done something to build a launch and landing site at a military facility? How likely could that be done without public knowledge? What SX has been doing so far is building a prototype facility that could be used in other locations. Of course, there are limitations at Boca Chica that are not as likely at other locations. Like the water table for one. Even if there is no launch capability, there could be a landing capability. I am convinced the two functions will be separated at some point in time. SX has the capability to easily move rockets around and there are many benefits to having launch and landings separated. I would think the military wants this rocket now not later. Somewhere out there they have built or intend to build a facility for this rocket. Felix will have to keep an eye on it.
Will do! ❤️💪
Vandenberg AFB in California has been a U.S.A.F. rocket launch facility for about 60 years.
@@richvandervecken3954 Not to mention Cape Canaveral, likewise an Air Force / Space Force base.
@@richvandervecken3954 - that was my first thought and feel certain they will have a launch facility there in due time if not already. The military wants this so badly that I would be surprised if something is not already underway. Felix will track it down if that's the case. Of course, the military may want to keep it a secret as long as possible.

What about.. Florida Starbase? How is that coming along? When might we see a Starship launch on the Space Coast?
Long time. In Florida is way more too important infrastructure for space program, so testing, especially recovery attempts would be very problematic. Florida will be online after Starship will be proven to be reliable.
It CAN be faster if in Florida will be initially launched only disposable versions (considering price tag of Starship, it's not impossible as a stopgap solution IF there will be market for that large launchers).

Absolutely, this was invariable
I hear military being able to launch starship independently using spaceX infrastructure and just imagine a bunch of military guys walking into Starbase and kicking everyone out under the guise of national security with no explanation and turning it into a military base. Not a good thought.
And probably illegal, not that it matters at the present time.
If you watch the video he states that military could have their own launch infrastructure and control center for their own mission's. My guess is, like aircraft, the military could buy and own their own starships, modify them as they want, completely independent from regular SpaceX operations.
The reason the channel should not use clickbait headlines? Right here, when people do not actually watch the video.
Yeah that would mean WW3 was under way or some other state of emergency. Thats the only way the military would take over anything they need. Not a good thought at all

Clickbait headlines are a reason I have unsubscribed from other channels, even though they provide good information, it is exhausting when they use sensationalism in their headlines. Stick to the facts.
I feel you, trust me. We say legit bait or click worthy. If we would make thumbnails we love and could have absolute creative freedom… the videos wouldn’t get many views and we would have to let our staff go and go back to our usual jobs without being able to do what we love and are proud of.. informative videos about Space and Rockets.
A click worthy thumbnails translate to our product on eye height on a shelf while a “normal” thumbnail means the product in the storage room and nobody would even know it’s there.
I subscribed when this was just Felix being Felix. If you seriously mean what you say above, then maybe its time for me to move on. @@Whataboutit
@@WhataboutitI respect that you said this and feel that this should be the pinned comment. This is not a CZcams channel, but rather a business. And in business you don’t have the luxury of doing things with integrity or truthfully. You must always worry about your bottom line, and in this case your bottom line is trying to get as much traffic/ views as possible to generate revenue. Every action has an equal and opposite reaction. You choose to have this “Click Bait” thumbnail to drive traffic and others may choose to unsubscribe from the channel to get away from it. With that being said I ask this, Is driving new viewers to your channel with “Click Bait” thumbnails worth angering the loyal subscribers that put you in the position you are today? If so why?
@@Whataboutit I'm not so sure about that. It was NOT clickbait headlines that brought me to your channel or had me subscribe and like your videos. It was exciting and accurate news headlines along with your reporting of facts that brought me to your channel and has kept me. I actually was watching Marcus House for updates until I came across your channel. Marcus House posts once a week, while WAI posts multiple times a week. Your videos always offered great insight filled with information. I found I no longer really watched Marcus House because WAI would have already reported on it. So you already were doing something better than another channel. Remember though there are always other sources. Because I watch a lot of these spacer updates, I do get other channels that report many of the things you do. Guess what, I have stuck with WAI because I have not seen any clickbait or false information in the past. However, if you change your business model because you feel it drives traffic, then there are other channels that do not and earn their traffic and the loyalty of subscribers by maintaining integrity.

Why not just a headline like 'The Pentagon is all in with SpaceX. Then you are not misleading people into thinking they are, and I quote, "taking it over". You see there is a far difference between them working with SpaceX as a PARTNER and LEASING ships while having their own launch facilities, than "taking over".
-
The headline I suggest is encouraging, exciting, and optimistic. Your headline is a straight-up misrepresentation and disingenuous. You can have GREAT and EXCITING headlines, without resorting to lying. Also, before anyone says they were not lying. Is the Pentagon "taking SpaceX over"? No? Then the headline is a lie. Adding a ? at the end and then claiming "We are just asking the question" is a Tucker Carlson/Fox News gimmick.
-
As I said such headlines have led me to UNSUBSCRIBING from a channel that generally provided good information. I can still check on the channel from time to time and watch their videos, but they LOST a subscriber. When I get clickbait and sensationalist headlines popping up in my notifications I get weary of it. So unsubscribe and no more clickbait headlines. Then I can choose to visit a channel without a subscription and still watch a video if I choose. Wouldn't you prefer I remain subscribed when I am watching your videos?
-
Whoever your marketing person is does not consider that it is a trade-off. You say you do it to generate more views and subscribers, yet you do not seem to calculate that you also drive people away with such headlines. Trying to make it seem as if you do not use clickbait then you will not be able to keep people employed and would not be able to report this full-time is disingenuous. If you lose subscribers because of clickbait headlines, are you not doing the exact thing you are afraid of?
Excellent reply and my feelings exactly. @@onegemini420

On the other hand they can cut a ton of red tape
Yeah it's not really legal in the US for the gov to take over business assets without eminent need... which doesn't exist currently
@@danrose3621 I am in the military. Yes they can cut red tape but it also introduces whole new levels of red tape. The civilian side of government would simply snap it's fingers and all funding for the program would dry up within a year. Private funding is what has gotten them so far and it will likely be the key to the program's success. We aren't in WW3, the military doesn't have the carte blanche to do what it wants in the name of progress like it did in the height of the cold war and if we were in a non nuclear WW3, (which is very very unlikely in that scenario). If it was fully taken over by a arm of the federal or state government then all private funding would be illegal and it would depend solely on tax payer dollars. Not an efficient way to get things done in a timely manner.
Also starship is not a good option, they should use cargo dragon and falcon 9

Commercial airliners are used in a military program called CRAF, Civil Reserve Air Fleet, to provide DOD with commercial airliners to augment military airlift resources when needed during peacetime and wartime emergencies. The military already has the process and procedures established. So adding Starship vehicles to this mission will not be either unprecedented or difficult once the Starship becomes an in production space vehicle program.
Can’t wait 😂
I still think the first launch was the simplest was to prep the site for the pad improvements.
I agree with the need for battle starships, LOL.
