  • Yes I am re-visiting it, I'll cut to the chase that you wont be seeing any breakout in this video. This is literally just testing a couple of circuits, with various different coils and tube configurations to see what gives the best result. THEN in the next video about this I'm going to take the best result and see if I can get anything out of it.

Hey mate very good to see you back at the bench, thanks for the shout out in you video recently, appreciated I know you don't usually do shout outs 😎👍👍👍

So Clem phones the electric company and books a 3 phase supply, 😄. Nice video Clem, your slowly getting there mate 😉

You should publish a book of all you circuits.
    Good (cool) stuff.

Screw terminals as a quick tube socket.. I used that method to quick mount my power transistor terminals: "Once it pops, Instant Swap."

That tube can take a pretty high b plus, i made a flyback driver with it and i used a mains voltage quadrupler with a tap for the screen, obviously 15MHz is a different story to 40kHz,.. iirc the datasheet says 1kV upto 46MHz but as you know Soviet tubes are under rated somwhat,a tripler might be the way i would go for a plasma flame with this tube,.. i broke my GU-50 forcing it into a DIY socket 🤦🏻‍♂️, il get some more at some point as i would like to resurrect my FB driver of yesteryear...

    Cool Video, CoolDudeClem.
Its good that you got it oscillating, if it doesnt oscillate it can blow the cathode bonding wire off the tube (ask me how i desteoyed 2 PL519s)
So adding a 1A fast fuse just in case is not a bad idea.
Otherwise the results are as expected, there are some myths around this circuit, i am a full believer that the first coil acts as a choke so you want as much inductance as you can get, so it should always have more turns than your resonator coil, the ferrite rod helps with that by isolating the g2 voltage from the resonator by more inductive impedence.
I heard that this circuit consists of 2 resonator circuits, i doubt it a bit, as you saw from your Experiments the choke coil had no real effect.
Try it with voltage doubled mains and see if you can get an arc from it, sometimes voltage doubled without smoothing can help with getting the arc established from my experimentation.
Also mind the temperature of your resonator, if the insulation melts it will short itself and it will act as a short turn and kill the oscillation. (ask me how i know)
on the grid feedback, the resistor should be as large as possible, but small enough in value to bias the tube at near 0V, personally i use a transfomer as a choke on a PushPull Style VTTC (big tube ZVS) (on my channel)
    Good luck with it!

This will be running on doubled mains, but I'm going to do that in my shed, away from all the sensitive electronics, it knocked out my computer's audio during making this video despite how much I tried to shield everything (a reset fixed that) I am going to try this with a ferrite ring with 10 turns of wire as the choke, the only worry is that the core might not me useful at those frequencies or it might saturate. Another thing I'm going to try is the core out of a fly-back transformer as that has an air gap.

@@CoolDudeClem I doubt the little current it draws will be enough to saturate the core, i guess you can see at what current the core saturates with a scope and looking at what point its not linear anymore

Clem, serious question. I just came across a CZcams ad for Star Fleet Command game and the trailer voice over sounded exactly like the voice over you did for StarKidz episodes. Did you get a gig for the Star Fleet Command trailer ad? If you did congrats.

I've never even heard of Star Fleet Command. That guy must just have a similar voice to mine.

@@CoolDudeClem I've clipped the ad, uploaded on my channel. Sorry couldn't give you the link, as CZcams blocks it. I could have sworn it's you. LOL
