I've been doing this since 2020 inc gifts to keep track of value I get pit of clothing and better understand what I really use and why. So helpful when doing low or no buys now too

I really loved how you included the part about in the past that you spent more on clothes etc., due to dating/socializing. The wait list is tough becuse right now I'm interested in buying a coat that is on sale but its still a lot more expensive that I would usually spend on a coat but IDK if it will be on sale again. I love your 2024 goals, as well - super realistic

We are trying a low buy year here in our household. I guess technically a 6 month low buy. We did set a per paycheck spending limit, not eating out more than once a month, making sure we actually use something up before replacing it, and being more intentional in our grocery shopping

sooo awesome you're buying more secondhand! I've shopped 95% pre-loved for 6 years now and I'm known as the thrifting girl because I never stop talking about it, but it's just sooo much better. not supporting slave and child labor, not destroying the planet, getting honestly much higher quality clothes than you can even buy nowadays (even from expensive stores). when I'm browsing through a store like free people- never with the intention to buy, but to get inspiration- I'm always appalled that most of their crap is polyester but they're still charging hundreds of dollars for it??? I love finding natural fibers like wool, organic cotton, linen, and leather at the thrift store for literally less than $10

I'm so impressed by the data keeping, it makes me want to try it (albeit more casually) too! It sounds like a lot of work but I think it would technically be possible for me even in retrospect because my bank app keeps track of all transactions and I don't use cash. I want to be mindful with my purchases, both from an ethical standpoint and to not overconsume and end up with items I don't need or want. Great video!

I’m finally doing a low buy year this year! I’ve done a few low buy months with decent success, but I’m at the point where I do want to be more conscious of buying too much unnecessary crap. I just feel like my house is so cluttered and it gives me stress. I like that you allowed yourself to make larger investments through the year. I’ll have to remember that so I don’t beat myself up when I do it
I feel you about the clutter being stressful! Just be realistic and kind with yourself. A mantra I liked to refer to was “buy less but buy better”, and it really helped me focus on quality over quantity!

I never heard of the outfit repeating taboo until people 5-10 years younger than me started appearing in my CZcams feed. That wasn't a thing in the 90s or early 00s when I was a child and teen. When I was 25 and needed a professional wardrobe, I thankfully first encountered the capsule wardrobe 333 Project, so I probably spent way less than others on a "cardigan business casual" set of pieces. And then I also encountered advice to switch from work clothes to lounge clothes immediately after getting home to preserve work clothes from chores. It really extends wearable life. I think the harder thing about consumption for those of us working a 9-5 is cutting back on cute clothes that aren't work attire (due to logos, prints, and so on) because they really won't ever be worn.

Also I appreciate that you do all kinds of content- clothes, thrifting, easy crafts, spending, decorating, etc. when influencers do too much of one topic- for example, too many thrift hauls, I tend to tune out cuz it gets redundant. Adding some different content spices it up and keeps engagement, Imo! I am going to do a low/no spend year this year because im trying to get q home loan this spring, and I have a serious shopping addiction. I have forced myself to resell all the clothing I bought as a punishment and it does make me really assess my purchases beforehand. Ive made around 6k back so far in reselling so thats great! Lol. yeahhh i probably just jinxed myself now that i think about it lmao but btw a huge YES to keeping track of how often you wear pieces in your closet! i started doing that a while ago but totally let the habit die, so this was just the reminder i needed 🧡
I recently split my shopping list up into "thrift" "buy soon" "buy later" as well as a wish list, at first just to help me organize my thoughts but I also noticed it having the same effect as the wait time

Omg the ‘coming out of the pandemic and not being young and hip’ is how I felt except I was also postpartum. I feel I have a handle on it now but man the confusion of what my style is now vs what it was pre covid is completely different 😂 it took a lot of trial and error that my husband cannot understand but I couldn’t find the words to express to him that I just couldn’t wear certain clothes anymore. He was like but why?! 😂

This is a good video! I'm not a CZcamsr, but I'm curious about the 5:46 slide from the iPad. What did you use to make that? I'm trying to elevate from PowerPoint and SharePoint during Zoom/Teams meetings lol. One of my goals for 2024 is better presentations. I did a cringe-inducing one 2 weeks ago on Teams. I used a PDF lol.

how do you balance the new hobbies with not spending money 😭 i picked up crochet this year which i love but wool is expensive 😢 do you consider hobby related costs to be essential to a certain extent (same way you don’t count travel as a non-essential spend)?
As someone who got knitting needles for Christmas and just began looking into wool costs I feel this hahah. But yes I would say essential to some extent. Yes, you’re spending money on the wool, but it’s also an investment in yourself to learn a new skill / continue doing a hobby that brings you peace/calm (or whatever crocheting brings you haha). Buying that wool is ultimately going to provide you more long term value than spending $10 and 15 minutes buying a hat or scarf that’s been crocheted for you. Plus if the time you spend crocheting let’s say, $200 worth of wool, fills the time you may have spent spending $200 or more on shopping then that’s a win! That’s at least how I view it, but ultimately it comes down to what you’re goals are for a low buy year!

Speaking as a crafting hoarder (The fibre arts are a slippery slope where you start with knitting and soon you are processing your own wool you bought from a farm…) there is a line. I now have too much yarn and wool and there is an argument that everything I bring in now is extra and not necessary. My goal is to severely limit the amount of yarn, wool and fabric I bring in and choose projects based on what I have first and foremost.
Just wanted to note I have found plenty of wool, yarn, and other craft supplies at thrift stores and on thrift websites. Dont sleep on thriving the craft supplies as well!

I did include shipping! The numbers would definitely be a lot lower if I didn’t haha, but it was technically a cost associated with getting the garment so I felt it made sense to include. Do whatever feels right for you though!
