Even though he still can be funny, just because someone gets in trouble or is a bad person dosent mean that their work immediately turns trash. Life dosent work that way, Shakespeare was a creep but that dosent mean his work wasn’t amazing. This skit was funny and Kevin just read the good script.

Welcome to the USA, where nobody knows about anything outside of what they're told to like, watch and obsess over. Python only invented most of what people watch as comedy now, including practically the entire structure of things such as SNL, but who cares.
To be fair he's not nearly as recognisable to Americans as John Cleese is. As well as that he's wearing sun glasses. Furthermore, it's a reference to an old sketch Python did so unless you've seen the sketch and/or seen a fair amount of Palin in interviews or other TV (which he does very little of) it would be difficult for some to recognize him
The idiots watching wouldn't cheer even if you explained who Michael Palin was.

I am all about the medical marijuana. Just not the one people smoke. The smell is disgusting and people are rude to their neighbors. I should not have to inhale that or smell it. I don't care if a person is dying of cancer. Be considerate. My son and I when we lived in apartments used to have to hold our breathe because the smoke was so thick. And had to put towels under the door to keep the smoke out. So, if they legalize the smoking kind there needs to be rules that don't irritate the neighbors. Its not fair to us.

Beck! Made me happy to see Beck randomly pop in at the end of this. He was my biggest musical inspiration growing up. I'm glad he got some years in the limelight before he went all Scientology on us. Great group of people in my eyes. Kevin Spacey/Weinstein thing a little creepy, but you can't deny this skit had a pretty insane group of talent.

I am British, I recognised Palin instantly but in 2020 I did not know who Beck was. Beck was a big star in the mid 90s I guess. I thought at first it must be one of the Robinson brothers in the Black Crowes because of the line he said.
