- Made this after a particularly rough night of frustration, yet again unable to find a trace of this book online. I hate borrowing books from the library because they have to go back. I want to own things as a reference. but here we are.

Please digitize it, I love to read and share anecdotes, cuz anecdotes are the only thing that convinces people that the USSR wasn't one big prison
i read "one big person" the first time which is also true
@@e5205 me too lol
@check library genesis
The book's on the internet archive btw if you can't access it in any library near you
The quote that starts at 22:57 wasn't "kind of a dig", she rammed and twisted the knife right into the American soul-if such a thing even exists-and I absolutely loved it.
My inspiration to collect various Soviet pamphlets. Thank you, Lady Izdihar!
I'm so happy for you that you've been able to read this! I've been trying to get the copy of it from my university library but they never have it, so I'm starting to suspect someone stole it and threw it out.
Yeah I don't remember if I mentioned it in this video but a lot of her books that they say that they have in the library, are mysteriously "missing" and have been for the last 3 years yet they still keep the listing up online.
@@LadyIzdihar Good way for them to fish for commies.
Yeah either it was thrown out or stolen. I've seen books actually get thrown out due to different issues. Mainly political and religious thought inspired people to do that. And yes, some people steal books too. A lot of times books get purged for whatever reason. People, find them in the trash, discard boxes, or on shelves no one checks and bam they disappear. Example of this. I found the Satanic Bible by Anton Levey a few years ago at my local library on the shelf alone. Out of curiosity being a goth kid in my teens that book was something you read to be "edgy" and piss off Conservative people 🤣💯. It was gone 3 days later and no copy found in the physical and digital card catalogue lool. Very strange incident for me indeed. I'm like it's 2018, who destroys and throw away books anymore??
Throughout most of the video, I was wondering what had you convinced this book was significant enough to be banned, as opposed to being almost impossible to find just because it was of minor importance-if that all makes sense. The reading section near the end of the video convinced me, as well: this is a significant book, and I hope I'm able to read it some day.
I was worried I didn't make a good enough case for it, but I didn't want to bore everyone with like 30 minutes of reading. Fantastic chapters, there's a chapter in here about women that is particularly amazing!
7:23 Heh, I said "Weird," out loud at the same time.
Speaking of simple writing, Stalin is known for that, as well. Generally no BS, straight to the point. It's kinda admirable. Writing a lot while saying nothing, or very little, can be annoying.
what you said about many not liking her work because it isn't full of filler: 100% this
I've had an idea to turn that whole topic into a video for a while. There's no shame or lack intelligence in wanting simplicity.
It's hard to read long, convoluted texts without repeating it a dozen times in my head due to ADHD, so I really appreciate her way of writing
"I've never read Marx's _Capital_ but I have the marks of capital all over my body." - Big Bill Haywood
@@SpoopySquid to be fair, Capital is just REALLY long, the bulk of it is very readable!
@@agnesxivYes! I've had the same experience. I spend ages bouncing off the surface of texts because I have to exhaustingly repeat every statement 10 times to try and grasp it, then find a writer/piece of writing like this and binge all of it in one sitting. Currently waiting to get properly assessed for ADHD so checks out lol
I love books like this. Unfortunately, living on disability benefits. I can't afford these books 😭📚. And many out of print or hard to find. Sooo I prefer to have PDF files of books like this. Also great point on convoluted and flowery language. As a history and Political Science major I used to enjoy such language. It made feel as if I'm better than other comrades, or people that may not have the privilege of a University education. I changed my views after reading Anna Louise Strong's books.
Great video, keep going comrade!
Interesting to hear Birobidzhan getting a mention. The Jewish Autonomous Oblast is a particularly intriguing part of Soviet/Russian history I think.
Its also deeply misunderstood. I find when mentioned it's either glorified or demonized without context these days
I'm enjoying this. I talked to a guy who knew her in Beijing
I hope you plan on scanning the whole book and putting it online for people to have access to
Thank you very much for scanning this book, I am really looking forward to reading it now!
Could you please scan the copy of the book and make it available? I know it’s a lot of work, but it would be great to help distribute her works
I mention at the end I'm doing this
@@LadyIzdihar When you release the scan of the book I'd be happy to do the OCR work to convert it to epub format ☺️
I just finished doing this for Blood In My Eye by George Jackson because in the course of half a century nobody seems to have taken the initiative to do it.
@@jessl1934 Could you let me know where it's hosted please? Looks interesting
Cheers!
@@KoIossov Dammit, my comments are getting filtered because of CZcams. You can find the epub on the site that is the LIBRARY that has the letter Z at the front but it's best to find information about that site from the subreddit which has the same name.
There's also the LIBRARY that has GENESIS at the start of its name but I've only just uploaded the epub to that site since you commented so that will take a couple of days before it will appear.
Sorry to be cryptic. Hopefully this won't get filtered and that this will be enough of a lead for you.
@@jessl1934 That's brilliant thank you : )
Gonna have to keep my eye out for some of her books. Shame that the rights to her work for republishing and printing are probably complicated.
love your vids
Thank you ❤️
Oh man, I may have to subscribe to your Patreon so I can read this book!
It's not uo yet but I'll announce when it is! The book
scan it!
This book seems extremely interesting. Shame it’s nearly impossible to find
Love your work and platform! I cannot wait to see your digitization! Ill be supporting your patreon next time I get my paycheck. Thank you for everything you do 👊🏻
I wish I could like this video twice, oh wait *opens up 3 alt accounts*
Ahahaha thank you
Hard to imagine how many books were destroyed after collapse of ussr.
what an amazing being, never heard of her and I'm after hearing how great she is ashamed that I didn't know her.
Once again there's someone to inspire me!
The Library TikTok was a year ago? :O time flies
I can’t wait to read this! Thank you comrade ❤
learned a lot! thank you
i loved this vidio so much!! thank you for puttin in the time to share this wih the intrernet
Lots of fascinating stuff. Thank you.
Bravo! This was an amazing video and experience. I'm inspired to hit the streets and see if I can't find a copy as well.
Looks like I have a new author to dig into. Thanks so much for all your work
thnx for all u do lady Izdihar u really helped in my exploration of Soviet life and government from your tik toks and now on yt
This was very interesting!
I'm in Canada and it's available at my old uni's library
Awesome! Please check it out!
Yes please digitize this treasure
Great video comrade
Anna Louise Strong fue una periodista y activista estadounidense, conocida por su defensa y apoyo a los movimientos comunistas en la Unión Soviética y la República Popular China.
I would love to read that book! I think it is not being published because it shows the Soviet Union in a favorable light.
Somehow I can't post
But I do believe knowledge should be free
Just thought I'd post to mention that if anyone wants to read "This Soviet World " online , the Marxist Internet Archive has a copy . I would post a link , but I fear that CZcams might very well mark it as spam , and punish me.
You are a true servant of the proletariat comrade
Do you have any finnish books or books on/about finland?
Please digitize this book. I would love to read this! I'll pay ludicrous amounts on patreon for this.
God I want to live in a Soviet-themed apartment..
Years of low balling sellers on ebay 😂
@@LadyIzdihar It's more like, my neighbours would probably lynch me.
😯 see, I keep my entry way clear in case a delivery person or unsuspecting visitor would be offended.
@@LadyIzdihar BTW did/will you scan this book? Really want to read it.
Would you ever do a video on Soviet Novels? Are there any Soviet Novels you recommend?
I've never been to one of those big city libraries but the town libraries I grew up visiting would have people you could ask about missing books.
TIL that she has her repository at the UW archive special collections!!!
0:56 ❤
sounds like anna louise strong was an appropriate name 😤💪💪💪😤
If not in your website, you can upload it to Library Genesis
Izdihar definitely should not upload this to Libgen, and I definitely won't go over there and look for it to download.
Has anyone watched the documentary “Witness to Revolution,” about Anna’s life? Curious if it’s worth seeking out.
Lady Izdihar, do you know anywhere I can find this book in audio form?
Or really any of her works. I noticed audible doesn’t have any of them.
Do you have a public wish list like an amazon wish list where people can buy books (or whatever) for you?
What is the name of outro song
Great another hobby I can't afford lmao the hunt begins lol
Please please digitize it for us if it is ethical with copyright restrictions 🙏🙏🙏🙏
Marion Zioncheck has an interesting story
Would it be untoward to do a "podcast" where you read it?
Would you call Anna Louise Strong your academic crush?
Why can I find papers/ speeches from the infamous 20th party congress of the c.p.s.u. but hardly anything about the nineteenth party congress?
Whatever suits the capitalist agenda is publicised more nowadays
how much for your audio book? please read us a bed time story lol
People always ask. I worry I bore everyone just reading. Shall I do revolutionary bedtime stories as a live stream? 😂
@@LadyIzdihar I'm here for it!
Who owns the copyright now?
It could very well be, that we lose all record of these works existing at all outside of citations by their ideological rivals. One of the best sources of Ancient canaanite religion that of Sanchuniathon it's only preserved in a gloss by the Christian polemicist Eusebius. It's very important to make all works available to everyone equally. Socialism of information.
Loving this video 📹. I myself have experienced the horrors of book banning. And the stupidly hard journeys I've had to take to find them. Lol Anna Louise Strong possibly dating Trotsky. Wouldn't be surprised. He did date famous artist Frida Kahlo whose basically a Communist ☭ lgbtqia saint here in the Texas/Mexico, borderlands, the Southwest, and California.. How did she feel about about Trotsky?? Theirs a huge annoying war between leftists over Stalin and Trotsky 🙄. For me it's stupid and redundant.
⛏️⛏️
Wasn't she close friends with General Vinegar Joe Stilwell?
Perhaps a viewer can find a copy in a public or university library, photocopy
it, send it to you, and you can post it
on line, if it is not copyrighted, as USSR
at some time joined Intl Copyright Union.
Good luck!!!
Perhaps--- Berkeley, or Oakland,.there is a Proctor?? Marxist Library.l
Light they know some helpful info, even
have a copy?
Also, some other countries public.
university. or political, or on line libraries
might have a copy?
Also, if that book is copyrighted,.could
find + ask them if they themselves,.or +
help from others, be willing to re print it,
especially if you could on line collect many signatures from people who would
purchase a new copy?.Perhaps the individual or organization who might own
copyright might think that there is no interest. ??
It’s annoying that this happens in the West, but that is expected. I’m pissed at Stalin for practicing the same censorship. Still the Union was an experiment whose failures and successes we learn from.
What’s wrong with checking out books from your local library? Libraries are great!
This sounds like it needs a mass reprinting
i hope some nice chinese library can pick up that copy too, seems a waste for it to go to just one person
Meanwhile, Jordan Peterson complains that The Gulag Archipelago is cancelled, and it's regularly in your face at any bookstore.
This book also isn’t mentioned as written by her on Marxist websites. Does it offend EVERYONE?
please digitize it
How about books banned in the Soviet Union?
Bro really did a whataboutism by saying "how about" 😭
@@miketheant1107 The USSR banned more books than the US.
@@TeikonGom good. Some people should not be able to spread their messages and beliefs.
@@miketheant1107 I agree. We need to ban Das Kapital and the The Communist Manifesto
lol the Zinovievite trial was just petty drama
Oh dang, it's still copyrighted? Otherwise it'd be worth teaming up with a small Marxist publisher for a reprint :)
Just a note. You should be masked when going to places. The pandemic isn't over.
Pity Stalin took over.....brutish fellow.
