warm soft attack, beautiful mid-range and a nice dry character and decay. I own a few Gretsch kits...When I listen to any recording, I can immediately identify "That Great Gretsch Sound" Simply amazing drums.
You are an absolutely stunning player, these legendary kits here couldn't be presented by a better drummer...👌You really understand these kits so well, and you understand, how to play them the way it's used to be... That's what i simply wanted you to know...
Hi Steve, Brian here from Williamstown Vt. Just wanted to say that I really enjoy your videos and appreciate hearing how the different sets sound. I realize you have probably played for a long time but I wanted to compliment you on being able to roll with one hand like you do. Being able to do this rapidly and smooth is something I have worked on for years. I hope one day I will be in your area so I can meet you and your staff and get a front row seat while you play. Thank you. Brian
Hi Tim, Yes, the gloss is beautiful but it is about 30% higher than satin because of all the work involved with sanding between coats of lacquer, and the satin is really a beautiful look.
Steve I keep commenting on your videos but I gotta keep saying it..your playing is awesome. And these Gretsch kits! I have some really good drums..Rogers, Ludwig, Ddrum..but a Gretsch kit is definitely on my wish list. Just love their entire lineup.
No one makes a better 12" tom than Gretsch. That thin feminine sounding shell coupled with that masculine diecast hoop, that's The Great Gretsch Sound!
Comparing these to the new Broadkasters. These seem to have that 60's sound: brighter, punchier and drier than the new Broadkasters. I prefer this sound more.
Great drums great playing! I'm a swiss Gretsch fan and i I recently bought the same kit (but in SCM satin classic maple finish). Great! Can you give me some tipps for tuning the snare as in your video? Thanks a lot and greatings from Switzerland. Max
Hi steve..love watching your vids..love your playing and the tones you get..can you tell me if you tune to pecific notes..the drums always sound great..great..love it.
Yeah killer drumming and flat out the best sounding drums ever made! I brought a couple of my USA's in to guitar center in Michigan today to show my friend who works there and drummers walking in immediately were flipping over the tone and power and my drums are very small! I might have to get this snare, I can't find this snare on Gretsch's website, is it a ten lugger?
If someone could help me with the tension on drums. I have similar set up. And this particular tuning I really like. Is it like a C on 12. And A on floor ? I know most you guys prob don’t do the note thing. I get that. Just want to basically match these. Any help appreciate
Hello Freinds, one question....i got the same drumset 3 weeks ago, i always play remo abassador on my jazzdrumset.. now on the gretsch are the " gretsch permatone" i know they are made by remo, the seller told me they are like ambassador, my feeling is, that they are different....do you guys have any knowledge about it? thx at all!
This goes without saying. Steve Maxwell's video reviews are the best on the Internet by a mile.
It`s great to listen to a very good Drummer playing a classic solo in such an Audio Quality!

That great Gretsch sound!
Steve,
you should make a video of a USA custom side by side with a 60's round badge with identical tuning. That would be awesome.
Incredible!
Steve, some really fantastic drum playing. Thanks for the video.

This guy has some serious chops! 👏👏

Wow; very smooth sound to accompany a very smooth playing style and touch. Nice!

Wonderful kit and great playing!
Sound great!
It's true what they say, that any drums sound great when played by a master drummer. Even more so with such a gorgeous instrument. :-)
Great playing! great sound.. wow!
Gretsch Walnut gloss is probably my favourite finish of all time..... But man does the satin ever look incredible!
Hi Tim,
Yes, the gloss is beautiful but it is about 30% higher than satin because of all the work involved with sanding between coats of lacquer, and the satin is really a beautiful look.

It sound really nice indeed, but funny to hear the toms tuned in 3rd. Just gotta love Gretsch.
So ELVINS, LOUIE'S AND THE GRETSCH KIT WITH BILLY GLADSTONE ALL. BEHIND YOU.. WOW.

Steve, what's your advice for developing such great hand technique? I admire your playing! Big inspiration!
Great chops!

Top of the range....what about a Catalina demonstration.
More affordable to most drummers and they sound good.

yeah!!
Superb sounding kit and that snare drum so crisp.

Yes, ten lugs with Lighting strainer.
These are at the top end of Gretsch, Steve.....do you ever demonstrate the Catalinas, to show the various Gretsch range.
This is Steve here... it's been a while since we banked under a 500% profit margin...and these little trash cans will be no exception.
Fantastico!

snare is perfect
Would like to hear this size tuned lower.. big bass drum sound for a small drum.
Steve I'm in Brooklyn and plan to come meet you soon, time leave my Yamaha's in the corner.
Come in and see us any time :)
excellent sound Mr.Steve what kind of tuning you use on this kit?
thanks
BEAutiful!!!
Wow
Great sounding drums and playing.
What sticks do you mainly use.
Hello Freinds, one question....i got the same drumset 3 weeks ago, i always play remo abassador on my jazzdrumset.. now on the gretsch are the " gretsch permatone" i know they are made by remo, the seller told me they are like ambassador, my feeling is, that they are different....do you guys have any knowledge about it? thx at all!
Is there any muffling in or on the bass drum with those ambassador heads Steve?
Which drums have a deeper sound Gretsch or Ludwig? with same size shells, thank you.I like deep sounding drums.
mike fiorello Definitely Ludwig
Thank you
No problem.
Gretsch Broadkaster
Can someone tell me what heads are on the bass drum....? thank you
+steven nelson Remo Coated Ambassadors front and back!
is that a paragon ride he's using?
Nice, but that snare steals the show.
😆👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
Killing! But...that snare stand is choking out the 12" tom. Just sayin'
Wide open remo ambassador bass drum all day long!
Greate drum kit but wrong heads, it will go much better with Remo fiberskin.
Prefer Steve’s Ludwigs.
