- I wanted to share my friend's 4x8 HO scale model train layout that he build in his garage. He wanted to show how much detail and operational activity you can have in a small layout. I hope you enjoy the video.
What I love about this are the multi-levels. Anywhere you look you see something different and interesting. Great work, Paul!!
All I can say is: I want one! 🤓Looks like just the right mix of operations to keep me happy. I'll eventually get back to work on my layout....
You need to change your channel name to "The Train Wizard" because I have no idea how you packed so much into a 4x8 unless you used magic, every inch has a story to be told. So many fine details. I can only imagine how long this took... but it is just amazing
Larry, the creator of this layout says thank you for your comment...your remarks are very kind. My purpose in making this video is to show you don't need "miles" of benchwork to have a nice layout. I don't know much magic but I'd like to give you a magic trick. "Think fences and walls."
If you drive around your city you won't go very far without seeing a fence or wall. I have never seen a layout without too many fences or walls. But I've seen a lot of layouts with very few of either...it adds interest to the layout. Thanks again for your comment.
So many great ideas and fine scenic details in a small layout ! - By having a point to point layout using elevation and a fly-over track to incorporate a small exchange yard with a mainline railroad it avoids the "flat look" with too much unrealistic trackage and also gives a reasonable amount of servicing commercial industries to generate branchline revenue. The downtown and industrial detailing plus the subtle continuous running loop are a bonus ! This is Genius. Thanks for the inspiration.
This reply is from Larry, the builder of the layout...Thank you for your comment. I appreciate your insight into the construction of my layout. I wanted to show people that you can do a lot with a basic 4'x8' layout. Your observations were exactly what I hoped viewers would take away from the video. Reading your comments was very gratifying. Thanks again.
@@paulyoungtrains Thank you, sir ! I'm going to school on many of the details of your layout.
It is hard to believe that this is a 4x8 ho layout, Mr. Young mastery of using scenery in small spaces really makes the case that you don't need a basement to build a beautifully detailed layout!
I agree! I just found this in my recommended and I cannot, for the life of me, how all of this is crammed into a 4x8. I absolutely need a Track diagram
Your layout is amazing! It looks a lot larger than 4x8 and that is incredible. Your scenery and buildings look beautiful! 👍
This is the best ‘4x8’ plus layout I’ve ever seen. Wonderful work. 👍👍👍.
Glad you like it!
This is absolutely incredible. I was blown away by the sheer amount of detail that was put into such a small space, definitely could be used for some inspiration!
Thank you so much!
Just ran into this video. I like what you've done!
Welcome aboard!
Great creative work!!! I was so intrigued by your layout that I decided to try to map your layout in AnyRail based on Marklin's C-Track. One thing caught my eye. While watching your video, the local enters the underground area either on the inner loop or the outer loop but **exits** on the opposite loop!! This means that the local crosses from one loop to the other. Very clever!! Did you model this with just a crossover piece of track or did you use 4 switches in an |X| pattern? Any reason why?
Great layout and good story. Watched to the very end :)
Thanks for watching
Fantastic layout with incredible detail! Best track arrangement I have ever seen for a 4X8 layout! Really great operations scenario possibilities!
Thank you very much!
Incredible layout.
You really cram a lot into a 4x8 space, beautifully decorated too. Excellent job.
Awesome work.
Great scenery and a well thought out layout design.
Great stuff.
Happy Modelling
Thank you for watching and your kind comment.
Thank you, inspirational plus!
Incredible!!! Please share your layout track plan... What is the minimum radius?
I can send you pictures and diagram of the track plan if you would like to supply me with your email address. Thanks for your interest.
