I'm glad so many people are figuring out how it works. "Woke gestures" like removing lewd humor or toning down hotness or shoehorning in forced diversity or infecting the script with so much feminism Ghostbusters 2016 would laugh at it... They're all smokescreens. Token gestures. Megacorp CEOs want to look above suspicion and get dumb people defending the company+its choices by appearing to be on that side. In reality these corporations serve their shareholders. And if they have enough money, laws are suggestions. If the workers aren't hired on their merit, what are they hired on, politics? Casting couch performance? It's good to see so many people here figuring out how it all really works. Removing these jokes/flirt lines won't unharass those women, but it will please dumb people.

@Quentin Styger Name one thing they did to pander to LGBTQ people. The small amount they've done (it's not a lot, and usually not a lot of effort) is just general stuff. Gay people exist, ya know? Same with trans people, they've always existed. It's not like they just popped up in the last 5 years because people have politicized it more than ever recently.

@@lordshennington2756 It's very simple. You torrent the client, make an account on the P-servers website, add their address in a .txt file that has some name like "sever" or smth. Then you just boot the .exe and login with your P-server account and boom you can play.

They still removed all these in Vanilla classic and TBC classic. Sooo, yeah. It did make sense there. I've since quit WoW because of blizzards greed and stupidity, also gross practices. If I wanna play I can go to a private sever. At least the world will be more alive there instead of everyone getting dungeon boosted.

I'm just trying to understand who asked for this? I don't see how half of these could be misconstrued as offensive in any way. They're just... jokes? All of these undue revisions to non-problems are a complete farce distracting from the primary issue at the root of this whole controversy. "Yes we have a rapey frat boy office culture and we sexually abuse our staff... but look, now these characters don't make surly jokes anymore and women are fruit baskets!" It's meaningless and insincere. Leave the game alone, unless you're making it better. Nobody wants these changes and they're completely inane and absurd.

If I was a developer on wow I would literally just make it so typing /flirt at someone literally brings up a contract that is absurdly long detailing that another player wishes to flirt in some manner and requiring the other person to spend like 10 minutes signing and initialing the contract

But why? I'm not being sarcastic I'm genuinely curious. Most of these are light hearted jokes at worst and the flirt wasn't anything rapey. It's just silly that they removed all of these in game which does help anybody who either RPs or just uses these to pass time in raids or even just giggle at while drunk.

I would say that this is just another example of why there ought to be an organized boycott. It goes to show that the integrity of the company has disappeared in the depths of some pit, when the fundamental wholeness of their games is no longer considered as something that ought to be kept up. It is totally permissible to retcon things that were established in a multitude of previous titles, when it comes to the story of the games, it is TOTALLY "okay" to make whole literary works obsolete due to some willy-nilly changes, it is absolutely appropriate to remove things that exemplify the dev team's appreciation of the community.
Not only that, but it is absolutely reasonable to assume that this company does not deserve to be supported, considering the fact that it does not allow its developers to take the time needed to create as massive a product as the company would like them to create. Broken systems in WoW months, even years after the expansion is released, all owed up to the fact that the dev team did not get to utilize as much time play-testing as possible. Systems that are purposefully designed to be anti-player, just because those benefit the company.
Sub-par products sold at prices so great it would seem one is buying a new arm and leg, rather than a game. Examples abound - A multiplayer only game that features an obscene number of micro-transactions that costs 60$. A remake of a 15+ year old game that is worse in every conceivable aspect than the older version because it was rushed and filled with anti-user systems. A number of expansions that do not care for the accomplishment of the player in previous sections of the game and thoroughly remove any progress they might have made.
Not only that, but also inadequate compensation for the people who deserve not to be boycotted, on the part of the company itself. Indecent wages for the devs of the games; contract work, rather than full on employment; firing hundreds of people at a time just because a product was finished, rather than relocating them to other endeavours. Do we even need to mention the toxic workplace environment that Activision-Blizzard has admitted to be a fact, by both paying out a multi-million $ settlement AND doing everything in their power to make their games appear totally non-sexist?
Don't boycott Activision-Blizzard because of the removal of a bunch of silly jokes and flirt emotes. Boycott Activision-Blizzard over the abhorrent quality of their recently released products, their unfathomably foul business practices and their dreadful treatment of their workers.

It's sad to see these jokes disappear. The Trolls used to have a joke about killing dwarves. It was so brutal; its what made me stick to the horde. They removed it years ago because it was a parody of a song about weed (I think). Now all these other jokes, most of which I cant see who they would offend.
