  • In this video we roll out our most recent find, a 2001 Kawasaki Ninja 250 that we are going to be transplanting into a Manco Deuce buggy with semi-independent rear suspension. After a little bit of wiring work and carb tuning we were able to get the bike running good! After it was running we basically just had to remove it in order for it to be a crate engine ready to drop into our motorcycle powered go kart!
    Thanks for watching and be sure to subscribe to see this thing get dropped into a custom buggy!

      Thank goodness you guys actually understood CV carbs and why they need their airboxes. I watched the Cars and Cameras guys cut and hack to get their engine with CV carbs running correctly, and it was honestly kinda hard to watch.
      Disclaimer: I am not throwing shade at the CaC guys, I like watching them just as much as BBR.

      If you are going to run the same sprockets just having a shorter tire will change the gearing quite a bit. It's a lot easier to calculate than sprocket changes anyway. Whatever % difference in the height will be the same % difference in the top speed. Less top speed = more pulling power :)

      G'day mate yes I watched the C&C team doing all kinds of wierd stuff with the carbs ,for a start they went to two carbs & then used plumbing tube to hook it up. Like the heat will definately cause melting problems all the time .until they make a decent set of manifolds ,for it .I really like their channel too , it's one of the only times that I've cringed when watching them .

    Going on a buggy with low gearing for torque, the stock clutch will slip. It's the same friction plates that the zx1000 uses. The weak point are the springs. Upgrade to some barnett springs for 85-89 zx600. Part # 501-50-05055. You'll have alot better engagement and be able to get the power where you want it.

      @@MrMatthewb9876 in a stock configuration with 30 k or less I'd agree with you. Mc clutches usually last about 30-40 k miles with decent riding, and then its not usually the plates that go, it's springs. The first motor on my 250, i made 71k miles before the engine went. I rode it hard, changed my springs to the ones listed at 40k and didn't have a problem with them even when i blew the motor. Found a parts bike with 15k, took those same springs out of my blown motor, put them in the new motor and am 20k into them again. So in conclusion I'm 50k into a set of springs with fantastic results. 10k over when "clutches" supposedly go bad. I've never changed a clutch.

      @@MrMatthewb9876 the only thing stock on mine is the frame, plastics and tank. The motor is stock but a replacement. Front forks and bars are off a 500r. Rear swing arm is 500r. Fully adjustable aftermarket shock for 500r. I forget brand. Tires are 110/70-17 front 130/70-17 rear. I love to carve mountains in my area and stock suspension and tires weren't doing it. Alot of bounce on the rear is now non existent. Sidewall sway is nonexistent.

    Good donor, it'll need some lower gearing. A 250 twin that redlines at 14k isn't going to be big on torque unless its screaming. Should be a cool project. 👍👍

    I put a ninja on an all alum home built chassis , changed drive to #428 chain ( got engine sprocket from Sprocket Specialists , they match up trans spline , chain size and tooth number), good luck getting axle sprockets , American chain sizes are not the same as metric, split metric sprockets are not available for 1.25 axles. ( I had a machine shop EDM the bore for me) Having a lot of trouble with the CV carbs & pod or a K&N filter to run right , love to see how you do the carbs . my engine is 2004 , same gen as yours
    I used rear master cylinder and caliper from bike with Go Power rotor & hub. Also robbed the harness , gutted it to only use what I needed to run the ign , start & cooling circuits. Hand clutch on steering wheel , shifter kart style shifter , foot rear brakes... wiring will be a challenge , there is a 100 ohm resister in the ign circuit to deter theft , and the safety switches have to bypassed . (they all go thru the brain box and there is not an aftermarket replacement)

    G'day Guy's hey I'm in the process of doing a buggy build myself I got a Applestone buggy with no motor , and bought a Yamaha xj 600 motor to put in it , all up it has cost $550.00 , $ 400.00 for the buggy & $150.00 for the motor, hopefully it won't need too much more to spend on it . Being a 4cyl it should be easy to get off the mark and have good torque right through the rev range , on the clutch , I'm not using a pedal but a clutch leaver on the gear shift stick , then a brake pedal & a foot throttle . I will have to put some kind of governer on it when my kid's are driving it , until they get used to the speed .
    Good luck with your build , you's young guy's do a great job on your builds that I've seen so far . Until the next vid , bye . Mal.

    If it had a flooding carb, then it had Gas in the oil. Obviously, change that.
    Also - Kawasaki are notorious for smashing the rod bearings when you crank it over when engine has liquid locked, watch & listen for future signs of rod failure - bearings are cheap as are gaskets, but if it launches a rod thru the front of the case, you wont find another engine that complete without other major problems for only $200............

    • @Mad-Duk_Machine_Werkes
      @Mad-Duk_Machine_Werkes Před 4 lety +1

      Also, every Kart I ever put a motorcycle engine on needed WAYYYYYY different gearing than the bike had, as you're not spinning a 18" rim (or 17") anymore - most of the time a good starting point is double the teeth on the rear as the engine sprocket has, so 14 tooth engine sprocket should get a 28 tooth axle sprocket.... Later, if you need more off the line go up a tooth or three in the back.......
