    *note - the salary range I gave in the video is an average - it is not inclusive of all possible salaries a therapist can earn , while in the field .

    I’m a mental health therapist in the school setting and honestly I learned the most from my job. Actually completing assessments, documentation and trainings prepared me far more than graduate school. It is nice to see another young black woman in this field because where I live it’s almost non existent.

    I know this post has been a year ago but I’ll jump in. Thank you thank you thank you. The topics that you included were exactly what I needed to hear. As an Asian male, I worry that I would be judged and I wouldn’t build rapport but you mentioning being your authentic self has reminded me that nothing else matters. I had been holding back and having self doubts because of that and not having the right skills but that is why there is school and supervision. Thank you for this. It is helping me get over my self-doubts.

    So I am 26 years old, I have about 4 more years to finish up my bachelors and my masters...I did feel apprehensive about being possibly "older" when I finally do get my liscense but after watching 👀 ur video I feel better about feeling like I'm "late" and realize that my differences can also be my strengths. I also did not know that we might have to pay out of pocket for supervision...that was a shocker 😳

      Omg girl, age is nothing but a number! You will be great and there’s always people who need a therapist in different seasons of your life. And you can also get clinical supervision without charge through some organizations you work with, that just wasn’t my experience. Wishing you the best on your journey to becoming a therapist!

    I love hearing your experience, it makes me feel less alone. Especially with the financial stuff. I’m based in Ireland training to be a psychotherapist (year 3), and that’s something I’ve been reflecting on so much. There is no transparency as to the cost of supervision, personal therapy, group therapy, and insurance. Then once graduating you have your membership, insurance, personal therapy, supervision, and whatever other professional costs. It’s really overwhelming, then having the nerve to only offer 30,000 a year. I love being able to help people, but I also want to live. I have to say if I knew all of this I might have taken a second to think if this is really the right fit. I am lucky I am able to goto school, but the financial stuff is stressing me out. Luckily my degree isn’t as expensive as other countries (€3900) but it’s still tough.

    I love this topic. I’m a LCSW in the US. I just started my own private practice a couple months ago. I also work full time as a medical SW. I can’t wait to transition my business full time in the next couple of years. You are right. The financial and time commitment and the learning is continuous. It’s a rewarding career however.

    Hey I def feel with lots of careers it's always money you paying for this and that.. I graduated with a BS in Sociology in 2015 and all the jobs want to pay extremely low. I am currently a sub teacher and I wanted to be a teacher since I was a teen but the education system and speaking to many teachers had be rethink it for some years. I live in NYC and point of going to college is to make a better wage than minimum. I have looked into so many different fields after graduating and all. It gets discouraging the salary some careers are and the amount college cost. Time does fly as ideally I would of wanted to go to grad school 2 years after graduating but it did not go as plan. I looked into psychotherapy but it seems one has to do the social work route.

    • @OhSoLimitless
      @OhSoLimitless  Před 2 lety

      The job market can definitely be discouraging - one of the main reasons why I decided to go into private practice. Wishing you the best with your social work journey, if thats what you decide.

    Hello,
    I’m starting a MSW program this fall and interested in the clinical track. I’d appreciate some insight. How do you go about getting supervision hours after graduation? Do schools assist you with getting a supervisor? Does your supervisor have to be at your employment? Can you have multiple supervisors? How do you keep track of supervision hours?

    Probably one of the lowest paid professional careers requiring a Masters. It takes over 11 years before you get licensed and then low pay to pay off your $$$ loans for your education.
