My name is Matthew and I live in a van. I lost my job due to "cut backs" from the pandemic of 2020 and decided to seriously restructure my life. I am also a single dad who needed to find a solution that would allow me to remain in my daughter's life and plan for her future. After tons of research into #vanlife, I knew it was for me.
From March 2021 until October 2021 I spent my days building out my Chevrolet Express 2500, which came to be known as "Lucky" and as of October 18, 2021 I have been living in Lucky full time.
The build was done with almost no experience on my end and I used the one incredible tool I had at my disposal - the internet - to learn what I needed to build Lucky into a very comfortable tiny home.
I have always had a bit of a passion for being in front of the camera and really enjoy capturing the world around us. This really played into how I was feeling after almost a year of working from home when I "commuted" from the bedroom to the couch. I was starting to feel extremely unhealthy, unmotivated and despondent. I HATED that, and that's not a word I like to throw around. This new lifestyle gives me opportunities I just didn't have before and I am so excited to be able to share it all with you.
I truly believe we all have the capabilities to turn our lives around, should we choose to do so - and if I can inspire you to shoot for something better then I have done a decent job and that will keep me going.
There is more to life than the consume, consume, spend, spend lifestyle I feel we have all been conditioned to follow and I just want to do the best I can for myself first and foremost. Our time is limited and I do not want to waste another second on a lifestyle that doesn't bring me joy!

Matthew, you are truly an example for co parents. I believe fathers are very important in their children's lives. It is very apparent that Brooklyn is always on your mind.❤❤ Having a routine with you provides a sense of stability.Kids need your time even though money is necessary. They will remember your presence long after your presents are forgotten . ❤❤ Safe travels and continue to be positive.

I am one of those Lucky Americans who have studs, legal in South Dakota November to April 15 or if snow is still on the ground it extends to May 1st.

As someone who frequents the laundry mats I have learned that sometimes even in todays age not all businesses are online. I have always gone to the gas station or grocery store in the area I am wondering about and ask people that work or shop there if they know of one. I have found 2 that way in my time. Hope you, Brooklyn and Penny and of course Lucky and Grace have a safe trip and a great visit with family when you head to BC!! God Bless and Happy New Year!!

I enjoyed your safety concerns with Lucky getting her ready for your trec to BC and I let out a big YES when you took Penny into the laundromat with you . When you opened the door on Grace to find she had escaped I laughed so hard . I had two of mine break out of their carriers in the baggage dept in mid flight flying from out west to Toronto on West Jet. No one got their luggage for 2 hrs because they couldn’t catch them. They had to hoist me up into the baggage dept to have them come to me. It was the most memorable flight ever for me . Safe travels and have fun🎄

I'm thinking of getting a poop bucket for my living room, for a conversation piece! No reason I can't have some fun moving it around & having guests sit on it! Bahahahaha!
Diesel heater!!!!!
Try replacing the circuitboard on the diesel heater and put the original glow plug back in. If you have it mine did the exact same thing yours starts up smokes fuel pump, shut off and a few minutes later it kicks back on and then it runs fine.
Matthew, I don't think that the red lights on the heater mean what you think they do. My red lights are on and I always run it as low as possible because it cooks me out!
It is currently set on 1.7 Hz. I have two green two yellow and two red lights..... Wait I can't forget Blah blah Blah blah Blah blah Blah blah 😉. I have driven with my heater on, not intentionally. I forgot to turn it off. No errors. My intake is resting up inside my back bumper and my exhaust is just in front of my van exhaust which is the same place as yours except mine points out the side like the exhaust.
Mine smoked just like yours, I just swapped it out with a new one. 💙💙
That’s just what I was told about the lights by my friend Mark. And once when we changed the settings the red lights would go away and I would only have the yellow bars and the heater wouldn’t blast as hot so it seemed to make sense to me. These things are ridiculous! LOL

The difference between the Hakapeleta and the Goodyear Beagles is going to be mind-blowing. Even if they weren't the studded tires.

USE RED LED LIGHTS IN THE VAN CAB DUDE ,PLUS IT HELPS AT NIGHT DRIVING , OLD TRUCK DRIVER TIP. BECAUSE YOU WAS TALKING ABOUT HAVING LIGHT ON YOUR FACE AT NIGHT,

I saw a video from a manufacturer of the heaters and they say that a lot of them are using really cheap glow plugs and they don’t get hot enough. They recommended Kyocera ones, but I couldn’t find any.

Studded tires are 'on duty' the whole time they are on...chains only work when you put them on...then you have take off..put on again. Studded tires are only allowed in Northern Ontario. Safe travels to BC!
Funny, my van did sit all summer and after 3302 km from Elmsdale prince edward island, i crossed manitoba border and boom, my left rear tire blew on the sidewall. Got a smaller one from the wrecker and had low air this morning in swift current Saskatchewan. Put air in it and driverside front tire has cracks in it. So tomorrow 8 am one new 15 inch tire for 331 dollars plus installation at Canadian tire. In Pembroke ontario the coolant hose leaked that goes to the heater core. So i need 4 new tires now in Calgary. Small addition, my rear running lights stopped working. I left last monday afternoon from Elmsdale prince edward island. Crazy long drive lol. Different in a van then a semitruck.
And my cooler blows out my glass fuses.

Try the new controllers out, I saw one online with Bluetooth capability which I heard helps with reliability of these heaters
The newer type helps, not that it is Bluetooth. Blah
In the states the pretty much outlawed studded tires. Too hard on the roads. So we get chains for when we need them.😮

If the atomizer screen is improperly seated and blocking the air intake hole it can cause the smoke you are seeing.
just for kicks and giggles i know it's too late now but why not try a sink faucet screen their metal but don't get the fine ones with the rubber around it less you have to
I'm going to chime in andoffer advice about your diesel heater.
Smoke = unburnt fuel.
= Evidence of an improperly configured fuel/air balance.
aka: "running rich".
*Too much fuel not enough air.*
You run your heater on high. < maximum fuel draw.
Maximum fuel draw requires maximum air flow < Your air intake can't keep up.
Try running it on medium-low and see if this helps.
Other possible causes: clogged air intake, clogged exhaust.

But spinning out on a road and crapping your pants is so much fun...said no one ever....well maybe 1
sometimes a diesel heater will blow white smoke because the spark has not gotten hot enough yet, just like a fire pit will smoke until it gets really hot and then it will start burning clean, sajme thing. so it could be helpful to start it on high all the time, it could be many things actually but maybe the low setting is having fault with being the true level of hot that it is suppose to, sometimes the juice can be there and the wires have gotten broken down and even be it having the proper heat t. that heat is not getting thru the faulty wire, you have so many strands of wire in a wire that makes it complete with a few or even half those strands break down and are no longer connecting, but anyway My advice to you is to get a brand new heater and install it, You have one , put that one in there, I have four dogs and I do all kinds of precautionary things to prevent that heater from hurting them, like in the summer just to mention one thing I totally disconnect the controller because I have heard stories of the heater coming on in the summer all buy itself. But to really find the problem it would take special tools and its not practical to have to go out and buy those, But its good to see you back and see you not having back issues, very happy about that.

I purchased a set of Cooper snow claws love the brand they last and perform well. Also I have the previous generation van I can't believe how cheap ignition keys are to cut at CT ($5). I know you always put a spare in your holster 😂 but another idea is to buy one of those magnetic key boxes and throw any spare keys you have in that, underneath your vehicle 🤟 air tags fit as well for tracking (just in case)
I hope you’re not leaving your cat alone in the van with that heater running. I don’t trust those cheap diesel heaters and I also hope you have a smoke/ carbon dioxide/ carbon monoxide detector. Good choice of tires. Bad choice of heaters.
He has two ceiling fans. If the heater is running, those fans are on. Intake fresh, output old😊.
