When working with basslines, how best can one employ automation clips and equalisation channels to create movement in the low end? Also, during orchestration, what presets do you use to make your choirs and pads and what equalisation tips would you give to make them dominate the mix all the while without affecting the other sounds? @@vincistradivarius7381 dunno if this is what he does but for me, sidechain compression from the kick onto the bassline (keeps the transient and punch of the kick by momentarilly ducking the bassline only for it to release as the kick trails off to fill the soundspace with the reverse bass) & linear phase eq to mitigate phase changes, but these eqs have a tradeoff in needing high cpu power else you get massive delays and/or a pre-hit so generally you want to use them for corrective mastering (i.e. a linear phase cutoff adds 0.3dB, whereas normal eq low/high pass cutoff adds 3dB making you effectively reduce the volume by half to prevent clipping over 0dBFS).
as for presets, typically a supersaw is the basis of a hoov such as the legendary "WHAT THE...!" preset of the alpha juno by roland prominent in acid house, gabber, etc. - simply put, use a sawtooth with many unison voices and unison detuning, and a chorus effect.
