  • Restricted to the Guiana Shield, Venezuela, Guiana, Brazil, the Capuchinbird is one of the most spectacular and striking representatives of the family Cotingidae. Has a reputation for one of the avian world’s most incredible vocalisations, which frequently is likened to a distant chainshaw or a ‘lowing’ cow.

BoneMo. No other bird does that as its natural call, the Australian Lyrebird mimics the sound but it’s not his.

@0:18 “That voice sounds like a chainsaw!”
Mate, I have never heard a chainsaw make that kind of noise, unless it was broken beyond repair!

How do you describe this call?
For me It might be a timber mill saw.
How would you react listening to it in the forest just over your head?

They're talking about the sound a chainsaw makes when you start it up, but heard from a distance, such as from the other side of the forest

Not precisely easy, go to the Orinoco-Amazon basin between Venezuela, Brazil and Guiana, hire an expert guide, long river travel by dog-out, long walks, heat, sweating like a pig, lucky if it does not rain, bugs all the way and there you are, a lek 40m high…in the right season.

I dare you to do that, 40m plus high on the trees in the amazonian forest, luckily.

For me, that voice is haunting and sounds like a demon reciting a spell. Not helped by its skull head

Anthropomorphism is one of the main causes of the destruction of Nature. Man can not get rid of their demons and avoid qualifying Nature under their terms.

Belongs to the family of the beautiful cotingas, although can't be more different in many ways, probably share the feeding habits but taxonomy does not lie. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cotinga

This particular Bird tune is so pleasing, whereas chainsaw nasty sound is horrific. I betcha you made that observation only for the people to comment on it, so you get the stats olympics going 😅🤣😂

When you listen to chainsaws in the amazon forest at a certain distance, sadly login trees, muffled by the walks of trees and vegetation, it sounds very similar.
