Sometimes adding a little salt to the heater water will revive a stuck/slow heater
also it is worthwhile to squish the water around to get all the element wet
Merle Morrison yep, good point! Plus, if what you really need is a fire, you can empty the powder from one of the heater cells and light it with a spark or flame and it burns nice and hot
You don't need to go to culinary school to know the first rule of quick boiling: Salt!!!

@@kimberlys8422 That's common knowledge that is technically correct, but with a caveat. Adding a little salt makes water boil at a higher temperature, so it actually takes longer, but will cook your food faster. If you add enough salt, many times saltier than sea water, then, yes, it will boil faster, but the resulting solution would be so salty that nobody would be able to eat what you cooked.

As someone who lived without clean tap water or electricity for 2 weeks after a hurricane: MREs aren't that bad. They're actually fun to put together. It's better than chemistry class.

I literally put a sealed glass, little Tabasco bottle on my mom Knick knack shelf 20 years ago. The cutest thing ever, I couldn’t bring myself to open it. I just got it back after clearing the house out. It’s still the exact same color, and no settling and separation. Cute as ever.

I never understood why nobody ever put powdered milk in mre’s. A glass of milk with that cinnamon bun and apple would be awesome.

@02cents Because powered milk tastes like yak fat rancid yak fat. The only purpose powdered milk has is for baking the same is true of powdered eggs. If you chop up that cinnamon roll and mix it with the apple pieces taste ok it gets better if you take the raisins from the trail mix.

How are they allowed to sell something with the "biohazard" symbol on a food product?
Blake might be a disclaimer somewhere on the label. I’ve seen drinks in fake IV bags that had the biohazard symbol, if I remember right there was some kind of fine print on them.

I don't get the enthusiasm for zombies, especially from adults. Seeing a zombie MRE is like seeing cartoon characters on boxes of cereal.
I think these kind of gimmicks are a way to get around regulations about selling military rations on the civilian market. I don’t know for sure, but I have heard that and it seems plausible.
Zombies have become the symbol for unforeseen disaster - a storm, or the company you work for closes, leaving everyone in the area unemployed, someone getting seriously ill and you have to liquidate everything you can to pay for the med care,,,,, most certainly things adults are concerned about.

I'm trying to master the art of cooking for one or two servings. Oddly enough, the MRE videos are very helpful. My rule of thumb, is the entire meal, should fit inside a 20 oz metal can. Right now I'm at the spaghetti, goulash stage.
Lol I thought the same, I found a few rice meal recipes from these videos that I make in big batches and portion off into single servings for use.
@@musicfeind I don't have access to a reliably working freezer. Otherwise I'd probably be making a months dinner's at once.
@@RippingJack76 do you have access to canning supplies? Might be handy to have a few jars on a shelf for easy meals.
It is infinitely easier to scale down recipes when they are metric. (it's easier in general I think, but one does need a scale.)

Also, I want to say thank you! I received my Eat the Ducky Moss shirt and it’s fantastic! In the past I’ve either missed out completely on the shirts, since they’re limited run, or I checked the size chart and I was too big for even the largest size. But! This time I was able to order one AND I can fit into it because I’ve lost about 120 pounds in the last year. In fact, the largest size available was too big so I went a size down. It is actually a bit big on me but I still love it!

Beautiful tea river behind you. I grew up in PA and there were no tea rivers, but now that I live in Florida I can go to slow, deep, wide streams filled with a rich red brown water, that combined with the cypress treas it's magical. Didn't know other places around the US had tea rivers as well!

A little pro tip, Emmy. That sachet of salt in the cutlery packet? Sometimes it's possible to kick start the flameless ration heater (or at least encourage a more energetic chemical reaction) by adding that salt to the water that you use to activate the heater. Nothing to lose right? This is an MRE after all - it's not like you're going to needing that salt for any of these high sodium entrees. Cheers!

Effectively an accelerated sunburn, comes out of nowhere i got lemon juice running down my arms then a few hours later my arms were all red stripes down to my elbows quite surprising and worrying till i found out the cause.

MyKonaRC she said she was making limeade and the citrus from the limes got on her hand so while she was outside the sun caused a burn
its a tan line probabky from her wedding band. It's really common, my mom gets it a lot when when she hasn't taken off her ring in a while. Emmy probably took it off to avoid losing it when she is outside doing things.
