DENNIS DART WILL IT START??? LJU914 YT51DZY

  • This bus is owned by Hodgsons coaches of Barnard castle. And was bought just over 4 years ago now and has had a interior retrim since then, and is also in Hodgsons Original livery. This bus holds the private registration of LJU 914 but its original registration is YT51 DZY .
    The driver made the decision to cut this out whilst he was having his lunch break. When passengers boarded the driver attempted to start the old girl up but this old dart wasn't having any of it and decided not to start. After ridiculous amounts of starting attempts the driver went on the phone to the Engineer's explaining the issue. When the Engineer eventually arrived he eventually managed to get the old girl fired. The passengers on this bus seemed to of got used to how unreliable this bus is telling me it has problems on a daily basis. Also the driver was annoyed with him self for cutting it out as he said it had troubles with starting the day before and wished he hadn't cut it out. He also said he won't be cutting it out again and on his afternoon break when he normally goes in the office he will stay with it so he could leave it running!
    This bus is equipped with the 3.9 Litre Cummins engine and an Allison AT545 transmission.

    You'd never get this sort of thing down in London, that's why I love non-London buses - the driver and the passenger have a kind of relationship. Writing this halfway through and can't stop laughing!!! Subbed!

    We had these in east anglia way back, most likely the early days of first group or first bus as they started off.. Denis darts were terrible show them a hill they'd bog down and have little power then brake down minutes later .🤣🤣.. credit to the driver for seeing the funny side of things.....

  • @BusThrash
    @BusThrash Před 6 lety +26

    dunno why the driver kept lifting off the starter just as it started coughing into life, should of kept the starter spinning to try and force the engine into running on its own steam. In all honesty I wouldn't be surprised if the driver was putting an act on, seen lots of drivers do it. Just deliberately let off the starter just before the engine goes "Oh look at that its broken down". Either that or he was trying to provoke a known fault on the bus to occur - again by deliberately letting off the starter too soon until the bus legitimately refuses to start.

    • @mylolliepop12

      The only thing that'd do is murder the starter, the starters on these Darts aren't great.

    • @warren6815
      @warren6815 Před 6 lety +11

      Not sure how it works on one of these, but if the engine thinks it's running it'll stop the starter motor from spinning to prevent damage - pain in the arse if you're trying to get it started. Could possibly be a similar system on this bus?

    • @BusThrash
      @BusThrash Před 6 lety +1

    • @ryannevery844
      @ryannevery844 Před 4 lety +1

      The darts were legitimately great buses but with fundamentally inferior mechanicals, and while the engine was good, the gearbox and the starter were absolutely terrible so they'd either start slipping out of gear or wouldn't start up at all, plus with the way some of them were driven they developed some serious overheating issues too and that sealed their reputation and fate

      Thank you for the subscriber, nor have Streetlites been a thing for starting up, or not catching fire, or working at all, or trying to not look like a frog, used Streetshites are coming to where I live, which is particularly annoying, but also fun because I can insult them when they break down, which they will break down in a weeks notice.

    • @exploringnortheastbuses60
      @exploringnortheastbuses60  Před 6 lety

      Venomous. Your welcome, certainly agree with you there about Streetlites and starting got plenty of videos on my channel of them struggling to start.I quite like having streetlites round here as well at my local Arriva Depot as I can see what they are like for reliability in fact there has been one sat VOR for the last two weeks now because of overheating problems.

    • @mylolliepop12
      @mylolliepop12 Před 6 lety

      Amazing how unreliable they are, only running for Thamesdown right now, on the 14 in Swindon, which somewhere in Swindon is where I live, I know where my local Thamesdown depot is but it is quite far away, it is in the town centre of where I live and I don't live in the town centre, I never know what is going on at bus depots, because I never visit them but I'm conscious about the buses running to where I live which are currently Enviro 400s and 200s, and the occasional 2007 Trident, if a streetlite comes on my line I would start using it more because it would be bound to break down, and the line that goes to where I live is quite bumpy and hilly, it also goes through 3 miles of "middle of nowhere" and as a plus sadly none of the buses where I live break down, nor sound bad or show any signs of problems, I probably would have a go at filming the Thamesdown or Stagecoach depot, that might be quite interesting.

    • @exploringnortheastbuses60

      Venomous. My local depot has Five Wright Streetlite Max vehicles Three are fitted with the Cummins Engine and Two with the Dailmler engine both Engines in the Streetlites have proven to be terribly unreliable, with one of the Dailmler Examples having to have a New Engine Refit earlier this year at just two years old. They are awful to travel on as well especially when hills are involved.
