  • The 2024 Chessable Masters is the first of four events preceding the Champions Chess Tour live Finals. The winner of the event pockets $30,000 and guarantees a spot at the CCT Finals. Carlsen, Vachier-Lagrave and Fedoseev have already earned spots in the Chessable Masters Division I based on their performance in 2023's last CCT event!
    🏆 www.chess.com/events/info/202...
    The 2024 Champions Chess Tour (CCT) is Chess.com's most important event series of the year with the overall winner being crowned Tour Champion, the highest annual honor conferred by the world's largest chess platform. New for 2024, each regular season event has had its prize pool increased from $235,000 last year to $300,000-the largest ever offered for CCT events outside the Tour Finals. The pool for the Tour Finals remains $500,000 making the total available on the Tour a cool $1.7 million. Also new for 2024, the time control for every stage will be 10+2.

      @i-am-batman8538 Před 4 měsíci +2

      Jesus... they explain it so many times over the broadcast. It's a double elimination bracket. Alireza lost a set earlier during the tournament, so was in losers bracket, and Magnus hadn't lost a game and was thus in winners. Alireza had to win a set to 'reset' the bracket, take them both into the losers bracket and from there it was winner take all. And Magnus took. It's like every player has one spare life over the tournament, and Alireza used his before the Grand Final. You could literally have just googled this though, it's not hard.

      In some double-elimination formats, the best result that a player in the loser bracket can get is 3rd place. In formats like this one, instead they often require the player coming from the bottom side of the bracket to win twice against the undefeated player in order to win the championship. The logic is basically that the first win gives both players the same number of losses so they play another set to break the tie.

    • @disrespectfullygray
      @disrespectfullygray Před 4 měsíci +1

      it's because it's a double elimination setup, meaning you have to lose 2 sets to get kicked out of the tournament. magnus had not lost a set the entire tourney, but alireza had lost a set before this match. alireza was coming from the losers bracket to the grand finals, whereas magnus was coming from the winners bracket. so for magnus to be eliminated he would need to lose 2 sets.

      Somebody has to come from the upper bracket, having won all games prior, not having to use the lower bracket or "second chance" to stay in the tournament. Doing so is rewarded by having the leeway of an additional set, given they lose the first. It acts as that "second chance" that everybody else already used by getting knocked down to the lower bracket. Hope that makes sense.

    We saw the most ridiculous formula in the Grand Final stage.. Who really designs these cases?!.. in all competitions in all different disciplines. The winner of the winners section must be able to defeat the winner of the losers section in order to win the final and no extra points should be given to him in advance!

    • @Waythroughway
      @Waythroughway Před 4 měsíci +3

      From what I've seen in video games, the winner of the loser's bracket has to win twice in the final.

      you should see this fact like everyone has 2 lifes. alireza lost 1 life throughout the tournament losing to fedeser. so he wasn t eliminated but just lost 1 life. magnus has never lost so he had 2 lifes intact.
