Wow
Hello😏
Hello
Hi, Maybe next you could do Unnatural history from 2010 from Cartoon Network and it's only one season and Maybe you could also do Aaron Stone from Jetix from 2009 too, thank you.
As someone who's not a Power Rangers fan, I gotta say I love how cheesy and true to the original this feels in content and visuals. No new age plot revolving smartphones or whatever, no new tech that's more like today's standards, no hyper realistic makeup or CGI, just guys in tight suits fighting each other for some space reason. It's beautiful.
true, but people will always find flaws, especially youtube critics
@greenrobot5 and criticism is good, but Alex here just seems to not get the vibe it was going for much
As someone who watched all the power rangers as old,it definitely hits the nostalgia buzz
@Cartoon Nerd I've always got the impression that Alex ignores the 'vibe' of most of the content he looks at, and deliberately puts a negative spin on it for contents sake.
Well except the megazord scenes. That was all obvious cgi
Zack has hardly aged a day. The power has clearly been protecting him.
The power of uncrackable black!
The power of African melanin.
Black don’t crack
@Anthony Sirico And that's a fact!
“They just made it as a regular episode of Power Rangers from 1992,” I’m pretty sure that’s what they were aiming for. This is what every remake is trying to achieve, I see this as a win and not a lost.
YES! In so many big and small ways, it was faithtful to the original show. The fact that it felt like a lost episode of the show that was only just released is a compliment and everything I wanted from it as a lifelong fan.
Alex needs to do his damn Homework Mighty Morphin started from 1993 to 1996 then we get Zeo
same
Except it's just bad.
I hate how so few people realize they have been making power rangers for 30 years. This isn’t a reboot. It’s a tribute.
Beautifully Said.
And alot of good seasons post MMPR. I WISH those got recognition too. A Time Force reunion would be so cool with a redeemed Ransik.
It's too bad Bulk and Skull never really appeared in this anniversary special. They deserved a bit more than a cameo!
Ikr
Riding Titanus
Yeah, I would have loved to see them. There was a brief almost cameo, maybe you missed it. Their faces were on a billboard that got ruined in one of the fights. It looked like they opened a food truck or something.
Maybe the actors didn’t want to partake beyond that. They sure were memorable though.
Yeah that’s messed up! But that sign was cool “use your skull buy in bulk” 😂 brilliant
They were only there in billboard format
This guy does know Power Rangers has been an ongoing, interconnected story for 30 years right? They didn't just suddenly decide to bring back a bunch of characters nobody has heard from since 1997.
I just can’t get over the fact that they will forever wear their ranger colors in their normal clothes, all the way up into middle age.
To be fair, Zac had a suit lol.
well, I'm 39yo and I've always loved the color blue so, yeah I wear blue clothes almost everyday....and I'm still waiting for Zordon's call 😅
@BJ Thury same with me with yellow
And the fact that, somehow, with all the ranger stuff like Turbo/Zeo/Space, all direct sequels, none of the post-Mighty Morphin' rangers stuff is ever mentioned in anything to do with Mighty Morphin'. The Power Rangers timeline is wack.
@DuskFan They referenced other rangers teams and other rangers were captured - Zeo Ranger 2 Yellow was interestingly the only Zep ranger captured there as the other Zeo Rangers ARE in this special (Tommy albeit voiced, Kat, Adam and Rocky).
At a time when we have one terrible reboot after another, this is a pretty great anniversary special
Yeah, I think it was the best reboot/reunion I’ve seen!! I was really impressed w how genuine and relevant it felt.
Meh.
What do yoy mean reboots? Like in shows putside of power rangers or power rangers themselves?
@JustCallMeAqua outside.
@Yes, i am Red! I typed this on my phone
For once, I actually respect that, whether the fans wanted it or not, they wanted to give Thuy the send off they felt she deserved. I mean, at the time of her death, she’d already been gone from the series too long to justify something like this. I think they were very respectful with weaving that into the storyline.
But I do agree with your point of “who was the intended target audience?” My kids aren’t into MMPR or power rangers as a whole like my husband and I are, and there’s always going to be a level of Camp Cheese when it comes to rangers anything.
Overall, I enjoyed this special. Cried like a fcking baby at the tributes at the end tho 🥲
Me to, I loved it, and yes cheesy etc but I felt so much nostalgic while watching this movie
TBH I love how they kept the cheesiness, the low budget costumes, the goofy fights choreography. They didn’t try to modernize it too much. It’s a good way to say one last goodbye to a childhood show.
The show is still airing, Cosmic Fury coming this year even!
"But you know what's been on no one's mind for like 20 years, Power Rangers"
Alex, they've been making new Power Rangers almost every year since the original, and its had a loyal following the entire time.
EDIT: Also as a side note, Amy Jo Johnson officially said it wasn't about money, she said that maybe she didn't feel like dressing up in spandex at her age.
Maybe my hunch that she just doesn't want to act again and just more comfortable directing or writing maybe.
I don’t really believe that considering they totally used different actors to be in the uniforms lol
@Kaley Lindsay I get what you are saying, but considering that she could have easily said she wants to be paid what she's worth and fans would have agreed with her. Like John DiMaggio, she knows what bringing her back would mean to fans, so she should have been paid accordingly.
It's why I personally believe her actual reason
Finally someone says this!
Power Rangers Samurai in particular was the best and it's practically a crime to forget about it!
@Keznen Samurai? Really? Of all Power Rangers seasons, you think *Samurai* is the best one?
Not only is it not a soft reboot of the franchise and is just an anniversary special…it’s also a direct sequel of the events that occurred in “In Space”.
I understand Power Rangers not being on your radar..but it’s been a continuing franchise that’s been steadily building its lore for decades, and has even spawned a successful multiversal comic line that’s canon.
This feels like its coming from a place of…”ignorance” is a strong word, but..that.
A 10 year old now would not like to watch some 40+ people playing power rangers with this type of quality tho 💀
@SakutaTempest Oh for sure
The comic continuity is separate to the show
They both have their own individual canons
@SakutaTempestfalsehood
I have never been a fan of power rangers but I can tell they tried to replicate cheesy 90s energy. I can appreciate that.
I was a fan and it really seems like they did replicate the cheesiness which is awesome
It was a good 55 minute film
Just watched it yesterday I don't know why people don't understand that power rangers have always been cheesy like this.(I loved the hip hop kido return)
@Sean Gaming it was a refreshing visit and a good back to The past which was fun for a good 55 minutes
@Sean Gaming because the story wasn't cheesy. It ended up falling half and half. Sometimes we're so serious.
You actually poked the beehive of all Power Rangers fans. The entire franchise is bigger than you could have ever imagined. Entertaining review though 👍
Lmao what beehive, everyone in these comments are positive
Making fun of Power Rangers is part of loving it when you're an adult.
I declare this shit is GOOFY, as I sit here with an MMPR Megazord figure guarding my shelf next to Optimus Prime and Bumblebee. Goofy, I tell you.
As a fan who hasnt bothered with any of the other rangers, not only was it nice to be able to have spent an hour with people whom felt like I was catching up with old friends, it was a wonderful way to remember and honour Thui, and also give a shoutout to Jason. Plus, Amy has stated that while yes, not making as much as she'd like to come back for it, she's also 52. Reprising a role she did very early on in her career plus her own life outside of acting was something she just didn't want to be involved in. I'm actually pretty happy with this show, the horrifying cg final battle aside.
I would have also liked to see a few more cameos, but I agree entirely
Age means little to nothing anymore, I don't want to hear it
Plus! She stated she had some things in the pipeline working with MMPR for comics in the anniversary special so she’ll still be involved!
The movie isn't honoring anyone. It's a cash grab, JDF pussying out was great for this movie.
@FirstbornIntoAgonyandDarknessedgy.
So this special was for the cast as a reunion, as best as they can, and for the fans who grew up with mmpr, and still have a love for it, it's what it needed to be, and is exactly what a lot of fans wanted
It's a love letter to the characters and the original version of the show. It is a longer episode exactly how it would have been if it came out 30ys ago, which is the perfect way to do it! It takes us as fans who watched as kids right back to them, with all of the stupidity, terrible acting, plot holes, campiness, and overall a fun adventure! Absolutely loved it!
you clearly were involved in the movie. it was terrible
If you say, I thought it was pretty awesome.
@Samantha Gray I finally got to see the Megazord fighting in CGI instead of those stupid megazord suits
So...I gotta say...I was satisfied.
I loved it
This definitely feels like an episode of the show. If that was the goal, I think they absolutely succeeded 😂 props for that
It's not a reboot though... It's an anniversary special
I thought so.
Ah ok
Where is Kimberly and Jason then
@Please Shut Up the actors didn't want to show up?
Capturing the power rangers to turn them into action figures is the most power rangers plot I've heard in years
Brought to you by Mattel..... probably
@Jareth Larwood It's Hasbro. Not Mattel.
Just a thing to remember, Amy Jo Johnson had an acting career after Power Rangers. She did come forward and say that it wasn't the pay but the script as the reason that she and Jason David Frank turned down the movie. She's going to be writing a power rangers comic for Boom in the near future.
Maybe they wanted an excuse to be a couple onscreen....
I’m telling you as a professional Filmmaker that was her polite excuse of why she wasn’t part of the project. Not only is she a sag actress but she’s an actress that’s been a main character on numerous TV shows and TV movies. The Power Rangers get paid peanuts and it looks cheesy as hell like some amateur Film. I guarantee her agent and manager would’ve told her no you’re not doing that. And she probably never gave it a second thought. The actors in this series and they’re lucky if they’re getting about 500 a day. Whereas an actress for a professional TV show is making nearly around $30-$50,000 an episode which is about 5 to 7 days of work. So yeah, it was a mix of money, and the fact that it would look really bad on your career to go back to this from the well received shows that she’s been a part of that are professionally made.
@ThatGothGamer Daven honestly that's just sad. Yes she went places after her time on PR, which is great bc I always liked her, but it seems so snobby to be like I'm not doing that trash, I'm above that. It's a nostalgia thing, it helped launch her career, and I see no shame in joining in a one time anniversary special MEANT to be just as cheesy and stuff as the original. If it was just a badly written movie etc. that would be one thing, but they are purposefully making it that way as a throwback (almost like parody movies like Not Nother Teen Movie as an example). And I'm really surprised Jason David Frank didn't do it either given how long he did the series and how even up to his recent unfortunate passing he engaged with ppl regarding Power Rangers in a positive light, happy to delight old PR fans. I would have thought this would have been right up his alley and to think it wouldn't have wrapped up before his passing too so it would have been a nice final tribute to him.
I’ve heard about the comic book and I would’ve loved to see her in this special as much as the next person, but if this comic book she’s writing is the only thing that she’ll ever want to do with Power Rangers ever again, so be it, especially if it’s something to do with Power Rangers written by an original cast member, i’m pretty sure in spite of it being a darker retelling, that’s the appeal of JDF’s Legend of the White Dragon.
@PinkSakuraBunnie maybe she was self conscious about being on camera....she still looks good, but maybe it felt weird being a middle aged woman doing back flips and karate kicks on camera the way she used to in her early 20s back in the 90s....
Kat and rocky were technically the last holders of the red and pink Dinoranger power (i mean the green ranger power is also gone and tommy should have been the white ranger) they took over for Kimberly and Jason, then kat and rocky went on to be the pink and blue zeo rangers and then Kat went on to be the pink turbo ranger; rocky would have been blue but he "got hurt " doing the flip kick he did in this movie that "never lost it"
the powers have always been inconsistent. Kat shouldn't have been Turbo in Super Ninja Steel since she gave that to Cassie and MMPR Red are usually traded between Jason and Rocky since it was Jason in Forever Red and we can likely assume it was him in Super Megaforce, Rocky was Red in Super Ninja Steel then we see Red again in Beast Morphers which was Jason.
Green powers have been established as being back due to Tommy's Master Morpher.
@MattZRJSRoxythat's what happens when you turn the middle part of a mostly disconnected series into a continuous narrative before branching off into different stories but still allowing old characters to return with new powers.
I think, maybe, that "wow, this is silly," energy might have been what they were going for. That feeling has some entertainment value in it's own right, and the fact that it feels "just like a classic episide" is kinda cool.
Its* own right.
My cousin and I were stoned to the bone, neither of us knew anything about this anniversary special, it was #9 on trending movies on Netflix and I convinced him we should watch it to make fun of it. In my adult life I have allowed myself to cry four times: when I had my first serious relationship breakup, when my grandmother died, and while watching Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: Once & Always. I fucking cried twice during the viewing. This was a masterpiece. It was silly and bad, but despite these disadvantages it made me feel tremendous emotions.
he can honestly watch anything and make it sound entertaining 😭
Yeah most of the time I watch his videos just for his laugh, just those moments where he is wheezing for air over something crazy makes my day 😂
Dont_Read_My_Username
so true
Ladies and gentlemen, I have an announcemt. Above my comment is a bot, he is trying to get attention from us because his mother never gave it to him so please do not reply to him even with a "I wOn'T rEaD yOuR uSerNaMe" comment because bots are stupid and this makes them think that people are actively interested with them and so just ignore and report. Have a nice day folks
I don’t know you but this was great. This is what the fans of original have been waiting for. It was one of epic things ever. I’m so glad they bought back Zack, Billy, Kat and Rocky one more time to become power rangers again. I for one would like to see a sequel. It was one of the best things that ever came out of Power Rangers. This was for the fans. It was a great tribute to the late JDF and Thay. I hope that they make a sequel to this.
I don't know about "the best." I liked the hyper realistic version with Dacre Montgomery more than this. The nostalgia felt artificial to me, idk to explain it
Kat 👎👎👎👎👎👎
Could be the last time we see these characters unless they do a sequel.
What I like about Power Rangers is that it's super wholesome. I put it on for my 9yo and it held his attention. I was a child of 80s so missed the Power Rangers trend. I always thought it was just a lame show. But as a parent my older kids got into Power Rangers Samurai when they were younger and that when I came to appreciate the shows. It has overacting, cheesy jokes, crazy villan costumes and pretty cool fight scenes, but that makes it quality pantomime and the character transformation sequences are fun and you just want to learn their moves too (well I did as a parent 😂).
Samurai is seen as one of the least favored seasons by the fandom, so if you want a bit less cheesy (but still cheesy enough) I recommend watching seasons like Dino Thunder and Ninja Storm.
You didn't see the two ranger seasons in the 80s?
Power Rangers Samurai was the best!
@Prestin Hurshberry power rangers started in 1993.
@ArkanaMaster 1975
This is a win for me, when people reboot things from 20, 30 yeard ago, it's always left soulless, but this is cheesy, and campy, I love it actually.
The young actress is also a nice addition, I thought they would make her more annoying but I understood her motivations and didn't think she didn't fit or something.
Okay, I saw it out of curiosity and I have to say it was WAY more watchable than the original show. I don’t mind cheesy 90s FX but the original show was just too surface level writing and plot for my tastes.
The movie really did feel like a way to honour Thuy, the yellow ranger, and I think they captured that well. Trini’s daughter is friggin amazing, my favourite. 🙌🏻
The set and FX updates are appropriate imo. They capture the essence of the original without it looking silly or forced. The Fruit Bar looked awesome. 👍🏻
It’s kid friendly but will also capture the hearts of adult fans who remember the original.
Yes, it had cheesy lines and trendy meme jokes - but that’s in spirit of the original and it didn’t feel cringe.
I think this was actually the best modern reboot of any show I’ve seen so far. Yep. Good on Billy, since I hear it was his “passion project” out of love for Thuy, but man, his acting needs to step up. Way too dry.
Zack was great. I think his acting improved since the 90s.
Overall, enjoyable. I wish Rita could have come back. Her as a robot felt like a caricature of her former self, and overall less dangerous. I know that actor passed away too though.
Billy was literally the most unenthused during his transformation sequence -- odd they made him one of the main characters
You do know that Thuy Trang died over 20 years ago, right? There has been some other stuff done over the years to give her some manner of "send off", but many felt that she was kinda just replaced without much fanfare at the time... Kinda understandable considering the target audience back in the day, but those fans are all adults now and felt that she deserved better, including David Yost (Billy/Blue Ranger). That's why he was so involved in the writing and production of "Once and Always". It was definitely a passion project for him since he and Thuy were so close back in the day.
also David Yost had to leave the PR cast because he had been harrased non-stop by staff due to his sexuality (Saban never apologizing to him was the reason he never came back), so the fact that after he finally returns he gets to be producer of the movie is probaly very cathartic for him.
RIP Yellow Ranger.
Did you miss the entire first five minutes of the video or were your knuckles too busy cracking so you could scream some unjustified self-satisfied vitriol?
You do know she left like 5 years before she died so yea she was replaced long before not like she died while acting in the show and they just brushed it off. Her character left with 2 others ref and black ranger which got them all recast
and now I looked up what happened to Tommy and now I'm sad. Didn't know he committed suicide last year. He was my (and a lot of others') favorite ranger. The green and white ranger had the coolest looking outfits and he always seemed to give his all in his performances.
Ironically after watching Netflix's "the Old Guard", I had the almost this same idea for a Power Rangers movie.
Only a MUCH more serious take on being a Ranger complete with burnout and PTSD for the original cast; while they mentor the new recruit(s).
Boy, all the power ranger fans are even more defensive than the Barbie fans. As someone who watched both as a kid I can still “take a walk” with Alex and laugh at the cringe without feeling that my childhood being assaulted. I loved this video😂
Fr tho they always go like
Old = masterpiece
New = trash
In case of Barbie they say 2000's Barbie had peak animations like please get your eyes checked 💀
I think this was a great special tbh. It's as if it never stopped airing and I just popped in again to see a great extended episode.
Because it never stopped airing.
But it actually never stopped airing, it just changed with time.
To those who don't know the whole story on why JDF didn't come back as Tommy at 7:20 Hasbro stole JDF's Legend of the White Dragon movie script and said he didn't want the Tommy character anywhere near the PR special after finding out what they did, but when he died, Hasbro put him in anyway after changing the script. That's why you see Tommy lose so easily when he fought that monster. JDF never wanted a tribute from Hasbro. You can find it on CZcams.
Hasbro did not steal any movie script. There is literally ZERO proof of that. Aason is just incapable of promoting White Dragon without trying to shit on Power Rangers.
@John Williams Aaron is a very talented man who has always marketed his products right. He has millions of subs and a worldwide following. Even if White Dragon didn't exist, his Beat Down series would've still been successful. Look at the viewership on his channel.
As a Power Rangers fan, yes, we have wanted something like this. And yes, I loved the special. It 100% brought me back to being a child.
Eh, I am a '90s kid who was obsessed with MMPR and even went through a phase as an adult of being into the show again (even wrote some fanfic where the character based on me ends up with Billy, who was my crush 😂), but I definitely didn't want this.
@English at Heart To each their own. As someone who still watches PR and Toku shows in general, this was great and everyone I've talked to has loved it too.
Honestly…it was pretty nice to see the Rangers as adults now. The movie was nostalgic in the best ways possible ❤
No show defined my childhood life power rangers. I loved this special.
And if nothing else, it's a beautiful tribute to Trang and Frank.
The flying car that Billy has was around for a long time. Back in the original series he had built that flying car. Cool to see they brought it back.
So sadden about Jason David Frank. I didn’t even know as well as Thuy Trang. May they both rest in peace.
a lot of the cast from back then passed away but indeed RIP to all of them including Machiko Soga who was Rita in the Japanese footage, Richard Genelle who was Ernie, Bob Manahan as the main and 2nd voice of Zordon, Robert Axelrod who voiced Finster and Zedd back then and Bob Papenbrook who did the voice of Rito.
I certainly did not realize this reunion was going to be a show, I definitely thought it was a sit down with the cast type of thing.
Speak for yourself dude. As a 33 year old, I absolutely loved this. Not everything has to be tongue in cheek, self aware stuff. Plenty of that already.
Exactly! This movie was pretty damn good
I'm 38. Been a fan since episode one. Got hooked when Jason David Frank entered the cast (rest in peace to him) and am still a fan today. I have the anniversary video ready to view as anything with the original cast (or even the in space rangers were also a favorite of mine) I will gladly watch.
Same, I'm 21 and I Still Love Power Rangers
This exactly. I'm about to be 28, and the way I sat in my room actually SCREAMING in excitement at the entire Megazord sequence, let me tell you
I literally stayed up past midnight where I live to watch this and I was NOT disappointed at all
This was on people’s minds because there is an entire genre of fans that follow and all cared when JDF passed. And we all felt this was a great send of for Thuy. It was easy to fall back into the fun of it all. Before I knew I was cheering for the action.
It was great and fun.
I found out this was actually filmed BEFORE last November, so JDF STILL had a chance to portray Tommy IF he wanted to
He didn't want to, he was making Legend Of The White Dragon at the time.
This unlocked some far away childhood memories. It definitely feels like an episode from the original. Hilarious video as always
I take this as like a class reunion.
Just as in real life for us normal folks...there will always be those who don't want to come to the class reunion.
I respect Kimberly's reason for not coming. Whatever her reason was.
But for the cast who did come back...I am sure they enjoyed it.
It was just an anniversary special on with an MMPR being the most iconic and their current owner linking all PR teams together into a multi-verse timeline.
Useing the “morphing grid” as the connecting base for the franchise branches.
Also in a newer series the previous teams connections took the form of small figures
They managed to perfectly capture the same energy from the classic show. Kudos.
They did not. It sucked.
@wolfrainexxx They did but okay
@XtraPlayZ Literally just watched the original with my little brother, but let your nostalgia run your life.
absolutely agree it was fantastic
I've been a loyal fan for 30 years and while I know this anniversary special wasn't perfect, it was a nice tribute to Mighty Morning era and was better than a lot of the previous anniversary episodes (Forever Red is still #1 though 😊)
I grew up on basically every Power Rangers movies and shows and used to be obsessed with it, being born in the early 2000s I had access to basically every Power Rangers media made in the 90s-2000s haha.
This anniversary special is making me nostalgic with all the 90s cheesiness if to be honest. The yellow Ranger was my favorite so I kinda liked the send off they gave to her.
I was super pumped when I saw the trailer, and I think I set my expectations really high as a result. I knew the runtime would probably only be like 40 minutes or so, but I still had confidence that the story would be epic. And it was, despite being too fast. Idk, I'm not sure what I expected, but it was definitely much more than what we got.
Being a 90s kid and a huge MMPR fan i was a bit let down with this special. I kept hearing how good it was by other fans but i agree with most things that Alex said.
RIP Thuy Trang.
It was honestly great. You had to be there in the 90s to feel the magic they where going for.
Alex - "Do you know what's been on no one's mind for 20 years? Power Rangers"
Power Rangers Fandom - "What are we? Chopped liver?"
Also, its not a reboot, its special to celebrate the franchise's 30th anniversary. Get facts right, Alex!
Feels like every fandom from the 90s has a genwunner ( it’s a term originally from Pokémon referring to people who don’t know anything passed generation one)
@Epic Fable Reviews I mean at the end of the day, spreading misinformation for the sake of a joke will always be funnier than telling the truth.
The 90’s were 10 years ago!! Damn you !!
Ok fine. 30. 30?? I guess that makes sense as I was in grade 5 and I’m 41 now. Wow. Time flies. My youngest is in grade 5 now
@Luke Brown I thought that came from Transformers not Pokemon.
I'm a Power Rangers fan and loved this special, so I was slightly apprehensive about watching this video when it came through my feed. But it's actually a really good insight into what this special is like to people outside of the Power Rangers fandom. I don't agree with everything you said, but you raise a lot of good points. At the end of the day though, sure it was cheesy, but I wouldn't have had it any other way.
Also... I feel really sorry for Billy's actor, what he had to endure back than with Depression and all. Also I don't know what he was up to this point and in what fields he worked if at all... But damn... He really "acted" like every inch of energy and life was drained from his body. Like... If this had been a low budget school film, that would have been the performance I'd expect from someone who had their first acting lesson. He didn't emote, he didn't know what to do with his hands... It's like they called him a day or two before shooting and his cat died the day before and he needed some money for the funeral.
I really had fun with the special over all. But I can't stop to feel just bad for Billy s actor... Maybe he didn't act in a long time or something else was up, but man...
I wouldn't say that.
Being a Power Rangers fan, hearing an outsider's perspective is really interesting because I've known about this for years. I have to remind myself that not everyone is privy to the news that has gone on in the past year.
It's quite sad that the Power Ranger side of the franchise can't seen to just let the MMPR season go, meanwhile Super Sentai is doing something new every year.
But then again I can't help but feel nostalgic to that era of Power Rangers and this actually looks nice.
Alex you literally never fail to make me laugh and put a smile on my face. Thanks for the content my dude ☺
Alex: "You know what's been on no one's mind for 20 years? Power Rangers."
The Power Rangers Community: Guess I'll just die.
I haven't watched since Power Rangers Time Force came and went back in 2001. So to be quite honest, I didn't look back (and haven't really) I didn't realize it was still airing on TV until I saw a couple of Dino Thunder clips on CZcams. While it does have a special place in my heart, I couldn't honestly care about it now. 🤷🏻♀
Tbf anything after Disney era was mid af and the community is like 30 y.o. manchildren
Indeed. What differs from all other reboots and sequels is that Power Rangers never ended. It kept going, and moved on. This is just revisitting the past, which still feels right.
And calling Rocky and Kat from "some other sentai show"?
@__ Utama true but the neo saban era did still attract its target audience, as i enjoyed watching it. Not ninja steel though, couldnt tell you why though
That exists still? Haven't heard anything about it in years
I love watching the OG Power Rangers. The movie felt like I was watching the original show. I enjoyed it. But I did think it was strange they did a tribute to just one ranger but not to all the rangers.
Watching Alex freak out over this is simply amusing to me. After watching a ton of different Power Ranger and Super Sentai series, this is TAME compared to some of the things that happen in those shows, just in terms of basic premise, let alone individual episodes.
Also, the differences can be fairly extreme; the US Power Rangers was just five teens with attitude, but in the original Japanese version (Zyuranger), they were actually these young warriors who swore to battle the evil witch Bandora if she ever escaped her imprisonment.
So these people have been in stasis SINCE THE DINOSAUR AGE when Bandora finally breaks free, so on top of fighting her, they also have to learn to survive in the modern world.
Also the "Zords" are actually these sacred guardian dinosaur god things that help them in their battle against evil.
And what we know as Power Rangers Turbo was actually a more comedic version in Japan, Carranger, where the cars are based on literal automotive CONSTELLATIONS.
And in the Japanese versions of the older shows, people actually DIED. In one series that never made it to the US (Jetman), the Black Ranger got stabbed by a purse-snatcher and died watching his friends get married.
Robo-Rita turning the Rangers into action figures is NOTHING.
I WAS LIVING FOR THIS! It is perfect trash! Loved it. Also the absolute love from the original cast and the writers doing a fantastic job to include all members of the original cast was excellent.
My only ONLY critique was the battle at the end, no people in mecha suits? :
I'll never forget my mom dubbing them Mighty Morphin Jumps All Over and calling Alpha Soupbowl Head. That is some real nostalgia right there. This movie really is like an episode of the original show and I don't think I'd want it any other way.
I as a casual Power Rangers viewer thought this special was pretty good. It felt kind of lonely which was sad, you could tell a lot of the cast didn’t want to comeback and that Adams actor couldn’t really do anything. But it was quite alright. I was really happy hearing Horvitz as Alpha after years of being cockblocked by randos tryin to bask in his glory, and I was really impressed by Rita’s actress, 30 years later, in her 70’s and. She can still do the voice! Incredible! It was great seeing Billy and Zack as there the only other original rangers who have yet to return for anniversary’s. I was also surprised by how darker this film was, I mean Trini gets literally killed and they say words like “Killed” a lot which I thought was a welcomed edition to da Rangers series. The ending tribute was also touching.
So yeah overall I’d give it a,
Go Go Power Rangers/ 10
"It felt kind of lonely which was sad, you could tell a lot of the cast didn’t want to comeback and that Adams actor couldn’t really do anything"
Say what now?
@Dylan Sharp Yeah Adam? The other black ranger was practically doing nothing throughout the special.
It’s not a reboot: it’s an anniversary special.
Doesn't matter, it sucks, bad XD
@Proud TUG Thug your opinion buddy
@ķàŕmá-ķùñ ŤŚ it looks like they put as little effort into it as they could, they acted like I would, sort of a "I really don't want to be here but oh well I guess" kind of acting style, it sucks 🤣

Idk if it was just for us specifically just cause the rangers are a little older. The OG rangers had the longest run, if I remember correctly. Any kids that just watch the new stuff would be instantly introduced to the old stuff that you can find on the same app. If anything seeing them younger after seeing their full circle moment is probably cooler than it is for the older crowd seeing people pushing 50 acting the same as they did as “teens”.
The audience for this special was ME. It was perfect. You complain about it being ridiculous but then complain about it not being ridiculous enough. You even critique it for being exactly like an episode of the old show. Yes. Exactly. It was perfect.
I hope they make more of these Power Rangers like this that are more focus towards older fans. Also say what you want about the CG have you seen the 1st Power Rangers movie and what the megazoid looked like there come on.
I loved Power Rangers as a kid. I love Alex’s videos. Seeing them merge and both sides be offended is amazing.
This was a fantastic special and Rita was savage AF! I loved it!
They weren't just "from some other Sentai series," they were mid-season replacements of the _originals,_ which is what this is all about
Tbf that scene can be a bit confusing if you don't know about this.
Or know how the replacements look after almost 30 years
@EvilDoresh I mean Rocky, Aisha, and Adam were in the big theatrical movie at the height of the Power Rangers craze. Most people would at least recognize them. Kat was a little later so she might cause some confusion. But even with her she was in the last season of Mighty Morphing, all of Zeo, and a good part of Turbo so most fans would recognize her as well. Realistically most people who watched this would have known them
@Mr. Jay Well I _did_ watch that stuff back in the day, but I didn't pay attention to how these actors look _now_
@EvilDoresh I have to think this was made for those who still follow PR even recent seasons that did have history since MMPR or had watched it in streaming - lots of things in the special where you at least need some background IMO.
Understandable that they're turned into action figures, since it really works with the low budget feel.
Even though it wasn’t great. It hit me right in the feelings. I remember watching the original as a kid and having a crush on Trini. 😢
If you not the original ranger fan, maybe you wouldn't enjoy this special. I actually have a nostalgia watching this. Of course it's not that good or up to standard but, for me, I enjoyed watching this with my wife and son. Maybe it was just me.
We put this movie in for my kids. I had no idea it would have the original cast. I was so excited to see them all!
I enjoyed the special and so did a good chunk of the Fandom.
And the reason Daddy Andrew didn't return is because this was meant for the Mighty Morphin team, hence why Kat, Rocky, Adam and Aisha all showed up as well (& this was filmed before the passing of JDF so that definitely wasn't the reason why he didn't show up)
He did say No.
I've always been a fan of Power Rangers, and you'd be surprised how active the fandom and the brand still are.
This has been something I've definitely been waiting for.
yup he's just out of the loop. . this was perfectly timed . . and so was JDF's death. . .dont you think.
@Game Drop I mean, it's perfectly fine if he's out of the loop, I always like seeing people's thoughts things they're unfamiliar with.
Just so long as they do at least some research.
It was terrible, the fans deserve better
@Game Drop not really. The film already had a set release date and the filming finished before JDFs passing it's just a terrible and sad coincidence
Right, Many people still like Power Rangers even if it consider to be for kids.
Even as a kid I enjoyed the power ranger seasons that were more mature or atleast story driven like in space, Lightspeed, RPM and time force.
It’s a nice nostalgia trip. It’s nice to see how everyone’s doing and pay tribute to those no longer with us.
The funny thing about this is that Super Sentai (the show Power Rangers is based on) has been doing 10 year anniversary specials for some of their ranger teams for quite sometime now. Once and Always is kind of like those.
RIP Tommy and Trini :(
Won't be the same without them.
I had the absolute biggest crush on Jason and Tommy when I was in elementary school. My friend and I fought over which of us was going to marry Tommy when we got older.
After his passing, a friend shared a cartoonist's illustration of Tommy's dinosaur Zord looking up at the sky and seeing clouds in the shape of the White Ranger blowing his flute. I cried buckets.
I guess the special is for fans who enjoyed the cheesy element of Power Rangers. I laughed my ass off when I watched it.
As most people have said, this is definitely for the fans. Yes, that means us 30yo who watched SPD, In Space, Dino Thunder and all the others. Personally my favourites were Time Force and SPD. The special was exactly what I expected and I'm glad Netflix decided to put money into it.
Me too. These are my top faves
1. MMP 2. Time Force. 3. Dino Thunder 4. Ninja Storm. 5. SPD
RPM is so slept on. That show was DARK and I loved it. I was not expecting it to have a story like that.
My favorite is mystic force
Yeah, i think they were aiming more for the people who are actually fans of the Pr franchise and not only the first season casual watching. Yes, the people who only watch the first team will enjoy it, but it feels different when you care about the franchise
mine was dino thunder
CZcamsrs not old enough to understand Once & Always is kinda hilarious. Like, you have to understand the first three seasons of the show and the earlier movies came on VHS. The 90s, man!
I haven't seen it yet, but it seems to follow exactly the same kind of earnest cheesy wholesomeness that made me sneak out of bed to watch the original show even when I was grounded as a little kid. most sentai shows in Japan are ~still~ like that.
There were other reasons why Amy Jo couldn’t join, a big one was she couldn’t take the month off to go to film in New Zealand since she has some other projects as a director coming up so it’s not too fair to say it was JUST for moneys sake, though if someone wants to be paid more for their work good on them
Alex, the series is still on.. the fans of the show love it, so its for kids and for them. youre funny as always, but I think some research would give you the info about the current state of Power Rangers and why it is a big deal to get this special. anyway, great video
Growing up on these power rangers, this was a dream. It was really well made, dark and enjoyable
The fact that it felt like an episode from the original series is what made me love it so much! It was horrible and incredible and sooooooo worth the 58 minutes it took to watch.
Affirmative
That's what I hoped for for this anniversary and that's what I got. I loved it
Pretty much yeah, its what made it so brilliant
Wait, it's not even a full movie? It's just basically an hour long episode?
@SnowWolf2150 Basically, yeah. But it's glorious!
@SnowWolf2150 well, yes but no. It's a lenghty episode with more emotional beats and growth but it kinda follows the same structure as a normal episode
As a big fan of the originals back when I was a child, I really appreciated and enjoyed this 😄🥰. And you using that musical interlude from Nightwish's Ghost Love Score is perfect 😍
i have always wanted alex to cover the best superhero team and he has finally done it thanks alex
power rangers is still going actually. New team and season every year. the car flew in the original show too. I love how much attention to detail they put into this movie. Like, adam and aisha are in space setting up what would become power rangers SPD because that show took place in 2025 so we should be catching up to it. Love it. Also the second red and pink rangers are the second red and pink rangers from the second season of mighty morphin power rangers. Half of the cast left and was replaced with new characters. Also I can tell you exactly who this movie was for. It was made for fans who watched the original and still watch the new seasons as they come out. I personally loved this movie and didn't have any complaints about it. It was awsome. But I also think the latest season of power rangers, "Power Rangers Dino Fury" was awsome. Because this was a show I grew up with as a kid and I still love it to this day for all that it is, including the cheesiness. and I cant wait for the next season to come out! Lord zedd is back as the villain and theres even gonna FINALLY be an actual orange ranger! Anyways, loved the video as always Alex. It was hilarious and I love seeing what other people think about movies I've watched.
What I didn’t understand was how did she manage to capture 3 Lost Galaxy Rangers, 2 Dino Thunder Rangers, and 2 Beast Morpher Rangers. Don’t all seven of them have power ups? Also, I saw Zeo Yellow there too.
As a tokusatsu fan never thought this would happen lol though I’m curious if Alex actually watched sentai when living in Japan
Is it weird I'm actually excited that it centered more around the yellow ranger? She was my favorite as a kid and all the other girls were like 'ew why?' ...like obviously she's the prettiest, she gets her own color (not just a shade of a 'boy' color) and she's a frickin saber tooth tiger! They always relegated her character to the BG and it bugged me. Nice to see in the 30th that they focused on the 'less popular' characters even if it was because they basically didn't have a choice 🥲
Yeah it's pretty awesome that it was centered around yellow ranger! Trini and Jason were my favorite rangers
(Those girls didn't know what they were talking about)
I was rewatching some of the original show and I think Trini and Jason had the best acting of the group. I can see why they were ur faves as a kid. You had good taste!
My faves were Pink and Blue but it’s hard to back them as an adult bc the acting is so bad.
It really felt like a meaningful way to honour the original show and the yellow ranger and actor who played her. I really appreciated that aspect. 💛
Yellow is a boy. Look up Kyōryū Sentai Zyuranger.
I found my people. Trini was always my favorite. Yellow ranger was awesome and yeah SABERTOOTH TIGER!
At least some later series didn't sideline theirs. Emily, the yellow ranger from Power Rangers Samurai, had at least whole episode centering around her.
I haven't watched it, but lines I heard immediately brought me back to the original show though I haven't watched the show in like 20 years and only the movie once every 5 years or so (what can I say, Ivan Ooze is fun and its nostalgic). I think it says a lot when I was 5 and loved this show, at 30 the writing of the lines I heard here reminded me of it. Oh I know how bad they are now, and the lines I'm hearing are cracking me up for how cheesey they are, but the 90s was kind of filled with cheese. Good thing I'm not lactose intolerant.
It’s not a reboot it’s a special.
And the power rangers fandom is still alive and kicking
