      It's an instrument with a pretty niche use case. All the beatle fare does hurt it's reputation in the versatility department. Some forums that I've been to often insist that the bass is too boomy without even trying to use literally any strings other than flatwounds, or get this, using the bridge pickup on its own. What I've gathered there is that most of the general opinions most bassists have on anything that isn't a fender often exist on the grounds of hearsay. I'd say violin basses are versatile if you put in the time of getting to know the instrument and dealing with it on its own terms.
      End of rant lol tldr: violin basses aren't the most versatile things out there but they can certainly do way more stuff other than 60s pop.

      @@possibly8180 Well, at least the 500/2 club bass exists, for all of the Hofner excellence, without the overbearing Beatles association.

    I think this a short scale bass, but sounds the way I like basses to sound. What a beautiful instrument.
    It has the better cup pots and that little Hofner logo on the body.

    I never cared about Hofner until now. I just read a thread on Takbass of a newbie buying his first bass. Should it be a Hofner or Pbass ? He wants the Hofner, and now I agree !!! The question was will it do Motown ? I think the answer is yes. Maybe not Iron Maiden, but Motown , sure.

      @Thales Partel Bro..I got the Hofner Ignition, and I cannot tell you how stoked I am. First thing I would say, ignore anyone saying it's not versatile. It's versatile!!! Tone options for days, and uchis easier to control. The finish is exceptional for the price tag. Playability and carriage is beautiful. I would say go for it man!

      @juanjan__ Před 6 měsíci

      supposedly (key word here) the capacitors and wiring is better, so that improves the sound and durability of the bass and its electronics. Next to this, it looks closer to an og höfner, that's why a lot of people do it
