"Carbon stars with ancient satellites colonized by sentient fungi. Gas giants inhabited by vast meteorological intelligences. Worlds stretched thin across the membranes where dimensions intersect... Impossible to describe with our limited vocabulary!"

Sounds like Carl Sagan. Maybe Cosmos from the 80s?

      Nvm it’s from HalfLife.

@@scottgillespie2690 Yes! It is something Breen is mumbeling about when you enter his office at the top of the citadel. But you're right! This could also something be, Carl Sagan has said.
The TV Show Cosmos and the Game Half-Life, they both have a special place in my heart!

@@scottgillespie2690Scott, this is Carl Sagan, checking in from beyond the grave, billions of light years away from our planet. I’m here & there, in the ether, to thank you for the invocation ✨

I always loved albums on cassettes. YT is a mine for any EM fans.
Let's support the artists and those who put some light on them.

Apparently you have an amazing Electronic Music collection on cassette and I would bet that the majority of this stuff has never been released on CD. Very rare

Hey wait ... first track has the same melody as NES Metroid's title screen 😮 Wonderful piece of synth music here.

You got it backwards because Icon was released in 1984 and Metroid was developed and released after that. Hirokazu Tanaka was the composer of Metroid's 'soundtrack' and he either knowingly or subconciously was influenced by the O'Neil track you reference and or his album. But I am sure Tanaka was not in any way being deceptive.

Keith Fullerton Whitman turned me on to O’Neill in the early 2000s but I’m most grateful as I haven’t listened to Icon in years. Have audio files still on a hdd somewhere. Very excited to learn it was released in 2017 - thank you for the refresher it’s (proper) acquisition time ☺️

Anyone know if this is the same Kevin O’Neill as the comics artist (2000AD, Marshall Law, League of Extraordinary Gentlemen amongst others)?

If it was first released in 1984, how is this a “1983 reissue”? Is he a time traveler?😂

I think that's because this was actually recorded in 1983, but you could be onto something here

There is an alternative title to this album: "My poor Irish parents ate only potatoes and limited their whiskey consumption to a bottle a day each to save money to buy me a synthesizer- here are the Results".
