      Nice one 👍 The labour involved can make it expensive if your paying a garage to do the job

    Thanks so much for a detailed video as I am currently ordering parts for replacing the carrier in all doors except the driver's (replaced after purchase years ago by a service technician). I will be looking through your catalog of videos for more X5 DIY content. Cheers! 👊🏽💯

    WHAT A NIGHTMARE..just to replace an over-engineered BMW door handle!!! Just got a 2001 X5 and the driver door did the same thing,..I wonder if the original mech could be fixed, instead of buying that jo-magee massive unit to replace? Anyways, thanks for the video, much appreciated!!!

    Great Video, Very Clear. Im replacing my broken rear handle with a FIBI part too. I Just cant get the alan key to re-attach to the rear mounting part of the handle. Burnt a good few hours and it just wont take. My outside part still has the plastic cover on it. Doesnt seem to want to remove from 20 years being attached so I thought this would not cause too much issue but it just wont attach. Any tricks to make this part of the process quick and easy.

      Fixed it. Had to remove all cables connecting to the lock below. Trying with them connected was impossible. Once disconnected it went in 1st time.

    Mr Mtech Guy, great video. My front passenger door handle has just broken. To add I noticed it no longer sits flush perfectly it sticks out about 1- 2 millimetres , I have a 2004 x5 3.0 sport petrol, with all standard fittings and standard car phone kit. Has a slow battery drain. Read a lot of different issues that can cause it. In your experience what is the most common cause. Thanks

    • @MTechGuy
      @MTechGuy Před rokem

      Handle carrier needs replacing. Battery drain you need to get diagnosed, could be multiple contributing factors

      By the time you’ve disassemble everything and gained access to carry out the repair, you might as well just get the handle mechanism replaced

    How do you take off the lock rod?

    • @MTechGuy
      @MTechGuy Před 3 lety +1

      Push it out the plastic retainer towards the outside of the car to unclip it, then fish it out the door 👍

    Need to do this on mine... Only problem is, it's on the drivers door handle and the battery has now died. Any ideas how I can get in the car please as the only door that has an actual door key is the drivers door and that means I still can't get into my car 😱 please help, need to do it myself as can't afford to get it sorted. Thank you

      Open the bonnet using the technique in this video- czcams.com/video/ESeciq5qFJk/video.html
      Then charge the battery from the jumper terminals under the bonnet, then open the door with the central locking.
      Then get the handle replaced!

      Only problem I've just realised..... I can't take the wheel off as the locking nut is in the car 😱

    • @MTechGuy
      @MTechGuy Před rokem

      Hey Samantha, you got three options, either buy a new lock nut tool from BMW using the cars VIN, and a photo of your lock nut pattern, or hammer a tight fitting socket onto the lock nut to try and get it off. But the X5’s do have a reasonable amount of clearance between the wheel and wheel arch, you may have just enough room to disconnect the liner and pull it back just enough. Good luck!

    BMW is the absolute worst company I have ever seen in my life. My X5 is garbage. They expect you to never use the damn car because if you do, it’s going to break. Doesn’t matter what it is. Sun visor? Don’t put that down too many times or it will fall off! Window? Don’t roll them down too much or the mechanism will break! Door handle? Don’t open your door too much, the handle will break! Door key? Better not use that or it will break!
    I CANNOT believe that anyone considers these pieces of shit anything other than just that, let alone a “luxury vehicle”.

    • @MTechGuy
      @MTechGuy Před 2 lety +2

      I’ve owned many BMW’s and that’s not been my experience. If something breaks I fix it and move on

      it's called wear and tear ...if it's expensive to maintain. You shouldn't buy Euro cars.
