Join me on my first horseback riding adventure in Iceland! This emotional and evocative journey took me through stunning black sand beaches and breathtaking landscapes. I couldn't have done it without the help of my incredible host, Hordur, who is not only a skilled horseman but also taught me a new way to ride and understand horses. I never thought this video would have me crying but it’s so beautiful what he had to say about our horses not worrying about the past and future their only thinking about the now. I think sometimes we don’t cherish all the little things and we keep wanting to go further and do better but that’s not always what it’s about !!!😊🥺🙂

I was lucky enough to go to Iceland in October to ride the Icelandic horses. Hands down the best experience of my life! For anyone who is thinking of going- go for it! It's not something I think I'll ever forget🤍 Glad you enjoyed them Meg! They are really quite different but once you 'click' you get an incredible feeling!

Meg, this was amazing. You should work with H&C TV to either adapt your footage to be a special program or have them go and feature this chap and his horses and philosophy. Truly thought provoking and inspirational.

This is such a beautiful video, what a privilege it was for you to go to Iceland and ride with Hordur. What an absolutely mesmerizing place to be.. this video showed off just how ethereal the nature is. Hearing Hordur's words about the Icelandic horses made me feel how passionate he is about them. Meg what a way to see Iceland. I bet you have taken a bucket load away from what you learnt about riding a Icelandic horses in their natural state. Pete you did an amazing job with all of the filmography and I saw the dedication you had running in the thick black sand. I have seen quite a few Iceland videos and to date this was the best one. You haven’t just driven through Iceland looking at all the same tourist spots, you’ve captured Iceland as it truly is. *Horses ^^ You can offend an Icelandic person by calling them ponies (although I think it's mostly in jest?)
Nick Rolfe I get they could be offended but they are ponies. They are not miniature horses, they are under 14.2 hh so they are technically ponies

@@mollybelmont182 It doesn't matter though? I think the reason is that they don't have a word other than horse in Icelandic, so to them pony is like a kids horse? Regardless of whatever technicality you think, surely it's better to just go with what will make people happy?

Omg Meg this was like an incredible documentary. You edited it perfectly and made us feel part of your day. I got lost in the beauty and otherworldliness of Iceland. I just lost time watching. It was incredible. Those horses are like none I’ve ever seen. They are beings with deep spirits and souls. Hodour (sp) is such a gentle knowledgeable man. Truly remarkable. Thank you for this. I can’t wait for part two.
This was amazing to see really great horsemanship where the focus on the rider being relaxed/calm creates a synergy between human and horse. No whips, bits, or any instruments of torture needed to get the horse to understand what you want. This man is the right person to care for 60+ horses.

Hi, this is my first comment, but I really wanna thank you very much for sharing this amazing experience. This summer I went for a 5day horseback riding tour in Iceland and it was one of the best experiences of my life. Watching your video brought back the memories of these beautiful horses and the magnificent nature of Iceland. I so miss it ❤
Mindful horsemanship is a really beautiful thing and certainly part of why the quality of these wonderful little horses have been preserved. You and Pete really captured the authenticity of the people as well as the beauty of the country. ❤
I got to ride Icelandic ponies for a week trip this past summer and it was hands down the most amazing thing! This vlog truly captures the gorgeousness of Iceland!

OMG, how spectacular and gorgeous and unique! Mind blown. I thought it would be a lovely travel log and it certainly exceeded all expectations there, but I didn't expect to learn things. But the message to take stock of ourselves with the horses and breathe and put ourselves in the right headspace and ensure that we are correct before we start managing the horses is massively valuable and something we can all consider when we are out eventing, in all three phases. As a geologist, Pete must have loved his time in Iceland as well. What an incredible vlog!
Thank you for showing me, where to go riding on Iceland for our honeymoon trip in the late summer of 2023! I'm totally in love with how the horses are treated, which have been very important to me to find a place, where the horse comes first.
All horses respond to this style of natural horsemanship. Mindfulness.. this guy is a viking Ray Hunt. Please take on this ancient form as much as u can. It will increase your points.. also lower your adrenaline level . Dopamine up.. The icelandic horse is only suited to Iceland. They are a cult item here in germany.. so many people have them. So many get sick from lack of salt air.. they get excema ..sweet itch.. colic ..laminitis.. also Pssm2. Metabolic disorder K1. They have very special needs. Which is why only someone who knows what they are doing should take one on. Mister Iceland is one of these keepers of nature.. and has a big say over the Icelandic Horse. He is the man to go to.. I have been wanting to visit him for a while now. Just to release my negative energy and recharge. So pleased you took this path. Best video of the whole vlogmas.. Ride like a viking...

I spent ten days riding the horses in Iceland. Beautiful country and amazing horses. According to the horse whisperer, they are very great horses with very short legs....or something like that.
This video makes me so unbelievably happy. I am so happy that there are genuine horseman like Hordur. They are hard to come by.
Oh my word! Icelandic horses!! My last comment on the dressage video was totally random I didnt even know you were going to Iceland! But oh my word, Im not even finished watching the video and it is so amazing! The training of Mr.Icelands Icelandic horse! Wonderful video and also educational a gentle reminder of how sensitive horses are and how important our body language and "mood" affects our riding, the beach footage made me so emotional, so spectacular and impressive
i grew up riding horses and stopped when i went away to uni.. on my 27th birthday i went on a trip to iceland and did a trail ride on the icelandic ponies and then i HAD to start riding again! it's been 7 years and now i'm schooling 4th level dressage :)
Well, I cried all the way through this beautiful film. I was lucky enough to ride Icelandic Horses here in Wales. My 2 ambitions were to ride in Iceland and also to have my own Icelandic Horse. Sadly, my chronic pain/fatigue conditions worsened and I had to stop riding, and then could no longer have ponies on our yard. There is still a tiny flame inside me that wants to try riding again. 2023 will be the year that I sit in a saddle again (I am 51 and rode from age 8 to 41). Happy New Year everyone.

Oh Meg what an amazing trip! I went to Iceland in 2019 and rode from the far north back to just outside Reykjavik, about 220km and this has brought those amazing memories and feeling back. It really is the most amazing country and this has just brought me to tears.
I don't even have the words, what an amazing video. I can't believe it's only part one!! I'm saving this to rewatch with part two. You've absolutely hit it out of the park with this vlogmas, you've put together stuff that's better than fully produced tv shows. i definitely needed to watch this, to hear all of this. i've had a problem recently with my anxiety spiking around horses. this video almost made me tear up because of how great a help hearing and watching all of this is. just to breathe, be in the moment, and focus on myself. not to put too much pressure on myself, either. i'll definitely be watching more of yours & Mr Icelandic's videos. it's the confidence booster i needed- 100%

I have a Tennessee walking horse which is also gaited it’s such a different feeling you have to let the tension go to move with them . I grew up around an Icelandic breeder the horses were always so incredibly sweet and gentle

I hope you had the time to see the other wonder's of Iceland whilst you were there, it really is incredible and my biggest regret whilst I was there was to not ride an Icelandic horse. Maybe one day!
