  • I tried DRY FASTING for the first time for one day during the Holy month of Ramadan. In this video, I also learn about Islam and talk to some of my Muslim friends about Ramadan and what Islam means to them!
We talk about how Muslims are perceived in America and misconceptions about the Islamic faith. This was such an amazing opportunity to learn about Islam by immersing myself in this ancient practice.
I am fascinated by the connection between mind, body, and soul and absolutely love learning about different spiritual practices, faiths, belief systems, and lifestyles, so this was such an amazing way to learn about Islam.
HUGE THANK YOU to my friend Umayr Shaikh for helping me with the research for this video and sharing his story with me!

Another HUGE THANK YOU to my friend Nada for also helping me learn and sharing her story with me!

CZcams: • ايش شعورك مع محمد بن ح...
Instead of the five daily prayers that Muslims typically do each day, I decided to meditate instead. I have experience with fasting and intermittent fasting but NEVER have I ever done a dry fast without WATER! This was particularly challenging.

What an absolute pleasure to help you with this video! Thank you for never being afraid to explore new ideas and broaden your horizons. With all the misconceptions surrounding Islam, having someone like you portray the tenets of Islam and Ramadan in such a positive light without any prejudice or preconceived notions is incredibly refreshing and speaks volumes about the kind of person you are! Thank you for granting me the privilege of going on this journey with you.

Being a Muslim and watching this ahhh feels soo good. I love to watch non-Muslim trying or learning new things regarding Islam religion. You did so wonderfully. I love the fact that you didn't leave the namaz completely off the table and instead did mediation during the namaz timings. Also you added the chat with your friend in small fragments throughout the video which didn't make it bore at all! You are awesome. I loved this video so much!!

The first time I’ve heard of Ramadan, was when I was about 10 years old and my childhood friend tried to keep up with her parents and fasted as much as she can (here in Germany the most people I know only started with this tradition, when they’re at least 15 y/o). I was impressed with her dedication and her family invited me and my parents to „Id al-Fitr“ (in Germany most people call it „Zuckerfest“) and it was so amazing and interesting. Since then I have huge respect for everyone celebrating Ramadan and following the traditions.
(EDIT: my parents were raised as Christians, but not really following this religion since I was born. I myself are not believing in any specific religion, but are open minded and understandable for everyone pursuing they’re beliefs (peacefully). So it was like a different world for me seeing all these people dedicated to a religious practice)

Islam is a very beautiful religion. I may not consider it personally speaking to be optimal for my spiritual path, I do however have immense respect for this ancient belief system. Social justice, gender equality, being of service to the community and the planet, protecting the environment, and building a personal relationship with God through prayer, are in fact all the values that Islam advocates. I am touched deeply of the propensity of love that the Muslim faith has brought humanity. Unfortunately there is massive amounts of mis information in the media about this religion. Thanks for shinning light on this topic.

In the eyes of a lot of those individuals that radicalize religion, gay people are no different than a terrorist. I never new that myself wanting to date men would be such a big deal for many. But anyways how the Sufis practice Islam for me is the real Islam! And most muslims don't identify with them and feel they are too out right and don't express real Islam.

It is wonderful to embrace the similarities, and allow the difference. The differences for me, are truly what makes the world go round. What a dull world it would be if we were all alike. Even, putting Your Own slant on this 1 day of Ramadan but embracing the mindfulness and showing respect truly made your experience, Personal and yet Shared...I know that meal sure looked yummy. The ultimate spiritual experience in my opinion is to partake in an ayahuasca ceremony. I love dry fasting, my longest was 46 hours. It’s so nice to not have to think at all about eating or drinking and enjoying all the time this frees up. Important to prep your body before a long dry by getting well hydrated as well as drinking some water w bicarbonate and lemon to cool and condition the kidneys on either side of the fast. Coconut water is a great way to break fast too...

I liked the Video, but to get a real good impression of the feeling i think you should try fasting a week at least, the first day is so heavy, and i think all the CZcamsrs just fasting one day brings a bad image of how it really feels, because the first day is hard but after 1,2 days you really start to feel the change and empowerment. i think this makes people think we are constantly having a hard time like they see the people having on the first day and think this is Ramadan, just feeling hungry and powerless everyday

    • @livingtheskylife
      @livingtheskylife  Před 4 lety +4

I totally agree! I would like to do it longer for next time, but it was not possible this year with how many video projects I have to manage currently. I also needed to start small because I had never dry fasted before so it would have been a lot for me to do for a whole week. The purpose of this video was more to immerse myself for a day and learn as much as I could and it was a great experience. Also, many Muslims who dry fast for Ramadan have been doing it most of their lives so they are more able to manage it! I would need to build up.

Awesome! And so timely for me. For a number of "reasons" I have allowed myself to indulge in "honesty" (apologies for the repeated inverted commas) recently, as an expression of being "true to myself" (there's another one), without truly considering the possible repercussions of my comments upon the other person. It's not bad all, however there were three moments recently, where I realised I was being more provocative than honest. Your guests comment about considering our thoughts 10,000 times more than the other person's, really hit home. That, and the fact I've been over indulging in food, a prolly a little alcohol too, more than I would do normally, has made me realise that this video is the wake up call I needed. Thank you so much for your continued broadcasts - they really do resonate with, I'm sure, the world at large (or perhaps I'm getting ahead of my own ego there). Much love! You're awesome! ❤️

I grew up in NYC, so I was always aroudn blacks, muslims, asians and hispanics in pre-gentrification NYC. This was when NYC was very united and friendly. That all faded away when NYC was flooded with gentrification/racism. But it hasn't changed me as a artist, and it doesn't stop me from spreading spiritual love, through conversation and art and just pure love and kindness. I just hope to spiritually connect with you one day..... Always daydreaming about it....

But after that you will feel amazing power flowing through your body. And you will be able to do things you couldn't do normally like waking up early. You will feel fresh and attentive all day long. Instead of normal days when you don't FAST. and the basic purpose of Ramadan, fasting and zakat is to feel the pain of poor and homeless people who can't afford to eat properly and give them zakat so they can feed themselves and their families.

I'm atheist and thinking of trying Ramadan this year for the health benefits and the inward reflection, I like the idea of meditating in lieu of the prayers. I worry about the thirst that is the biggest hurdle in my mind. Thanks for sharing your experience!! ✌️

I loved it. You're too fucken good. My best friend is Muslim. He fast and do everything, tried explaining to me why they do it and how it helps, But i never really understood. Partly cause he is bad explainer and doesn't really understand it much himself.
But you're on a whole another level. Learned so much from you. Like when you said, it gives your digestion a break. Next couple of days, i'll have to try it.
Please keep going make more videos. I love you & you're amazing.

I am so happy you liked the video and found it helpful! I also have other videos about intermittent fasting that are even more in-depth about the science of fasting, although it's not specific to dry fasting. Hope that helps! Much love

Most of the people including me will sleep after fajr so that we can compensate for the sleep lost due waking up early.

It's such a good experience to connect us with our neighbors! We live in Saudi Arabia and tried for just 24 hours - it was eye-opening, and we're so glad we gave it a try!

Interesting process. I can see why water tastes so good after dry fasting. Your body is in a dehydrated state. Your mentality clarity happens due to adrenaline changes. The science behind dry fasting is fascinating.

Great Video! I have a questions that isn't regarding fasting, its actually regarding the Wim Hof method. Im wondering if you continue to take daily ice baths? Do you use a deep freezer that is converted safely to be used as an ice bath?
