First off hats off to the stylist, well done. I got one question tho: what's the model hair color? If it's black, how come the layers and texture is so much well-defined and visible, is it because of the lighting or a product? The problem is that I also got dark shoulder length layered hair cut but no matter what I do the layering is not visible because my hair doesn't reflect the light I guess.

If you mean to ask about the face shape - it is square, so any hair style will work!
Since your son has shoulder- length hair, Trimming too short will make him quite uncomfortable so we would recommend to either go with side parting hair as to be seen in K-pop or simply undercut with no fade!
