  • The Railway Preservation Society of Ireland & Modern Railway Society of Ireland ''East Coaster - GONE WEST" railtour on Saturday 9th September 2017.
Whitehead - Carrickfergus - Belfast Central - Dundalk - Dublin Connolly - Newcommen Junction - Broombridge - Sligo - Broombridge - Newcommen Junction - Dublin Connolly - Clongriffin Loop - Dundalk - Belfast - Whitehead
The original plan was to visit Rosslare but towards the end of August it became known the Rosslare line was to be closed for engineering works.
Due to only Connolly guard's being available to work the train, their route knowledge only covers Sligo, Rosslare & Belfast routes. The decision was to then visit Sligo instead offering passengers an extra 70 miles.
Northern Railway's Loco No.112 was allocated for the entire day to Sligo and back.

Shameful how Iranrod Éireann won't supply MacDiamada (Sligo) station with an overall platform canopy like most other terminus stations. Sad

Mm quite a lenghty trip, with lots of engine turn arounds. But looked good. Re Sligo stn, wasnt it partly destroyed in the civil war..??
