    Stayed at The Ritz-Carlton Bacara, Santa Barbara earlier this year. Used my 85K FNC from my Amex Bonvoy Brilliant, then topped off with 10,500 points for a standard king room that was going for 95,500 points or $1,175 per night on a Saturday.

    My fiance and I lives in NYC. We did a stay-cation this year Jan/2023 at The Ritz-Carlton Central Park for her birthday. We used the 85,000 FNC from The Ritz-Carlton Card for the stay. That one night was going for 84,000 points and the room price was $950.00. Needless to say we got super value!! PS i emailed ahead of our stay of the birthday occasion and management provided us with a small beautiful birthday cake in our room!!

    I took advantage of the $5k spend on Boundless for 5 50K FNC's and used them to book 2 nights + 5,000 pts in Hiroshima, JP (Sheraton Grand) and 3 nights + 10,000 pts at the W Osaka, JP in mid-May.
    Being flexible with your dates as you mentioned, is definitely helpful!

    Just went through this when booking 4 nights in NYC. Trip is Thursday-Monday but the properties I were looking at in Midtown or Chelsea were all just barely over the 65k limit on Saturday night. Ended up splitting the stay into two different hotels, 2 nights in Midtown and then 2 nights in LES near Chinatown.

    Really interesting comparison of the FNCs with the hotel categories! For the expiration on the FNCs, do you just have to book before that expiration or do the hotel nights actually have to fall before that expiration as well?

    • @markplymale
      @markplymale  Před 5 měsíci +2

      They’ll let you book up to the end of the expiration month but that’s it. So for example the ones I used expire on May 20, 2024 but I could have booked a bit later up to the end of May but no dates in June. Hope that makes sense!

    I would probably use the refundable rates for points evaluation. When you use points, you generally get good cancellation policies. So the refundable rate is probably a better comparison.

    • @markplymale
      @markplymale  Před 5 měsíci

      That raises things to right at .5 cpp. Still low but better!

    Mark, thanks for showing how to redeem the FNC’s. I guess you could keep checking and if the rates come down, you could cancel and rebook at the lower rate.. anyway, you’ll enjoy Asheville. It’s a cool place. There’s also the Biltmore estate and the blue ridge parkway to see.

    I got the boundless card when it was offering the 5 50k nights. I was dumb to think I could use those to go to Maldives or something like that. Instead, I realized at the last minute they were expiring, but thanks to the calendar search I was able to find some pretty good deals last minute. I redeemed mine for a weekend at San Juan Capistrano, a weekend at the Ritz, Marina del Rey, and one night at the Proper in Santa Monica.

    I was thinking about staying at the Swan or Dolphin at Disney World. Those are Marriotts inside Disney. I was also seeing redemptions at around 0.45 cpp so I decided to do something else. I think Marriott does this on popular vacation destination properties. It's frustrating that they target tourists.

    • @markplymale
      @markplymale  Před 5 měsíci

      It’s definitely by design which is why they’ve changed to FNC for welcome offers instead of just a large amount of points. They’re able to control usage and not give up their best rooms for reward stays. Definitely frustrating for us!

    • @markplymale
      @markplymale  Před 5 měsíci +2

      Thank you! From what I’ve seen the best redemption options for FNC and Marriott points in general are internationally. TPG says .8cpp but that’s for redemptions at luxury resorts based outside of the US. For domestic stays .5 cpp is much closer to the average. At off peak travel times at US luxury resorts you can find 1cpp or higher but it’s definitely not the average
