The names of the Lightroots are also the inverted names of the Shrines too. Otak Shrine becomes Kato Lightroot, as seen in the video.
i see now, that’s crazy
Every time I get to a lightroot or shrine I say it backwards out loud idk why lmfao
This is very helpful for finding hidden shrines
@@psych9416 and predicting general locations of shrines using unlit sections of the depths, just find where the center of a blob of light would be given the shape and size of the borders
@@psych9416 same except it’s the other way around for me
Shrines are light roots, rivers/lake are barriers and valleys and mountains are inverted. Pretty need to know when navigating the depths in darkness
i knew about the world being inverted or whatever i just didn’t know the light roots and shrines were the same too type shit
Godess statues line up with Bargainer statues and some other locations line up too like the floating coliseum and coliseum ruins
Makes you wonder if the depths were actually that hard to design right? I can easily imagine Nintendo just running the surface with a few rules and instantly getting the skeleton of the depths and then adding the rest
@@iluvatarchem it definitely does make exploring a bit less exciting since it's predictable.. I feel like all the time went into everything but the map :/ it feels pretty repetitive sometimes, especially the sky islands.. half the sky archipelagos are near identical to one another lol always a + shape island with an extended bit on one side, a shrine on another, a device dispenser on the opposite side etc.
I was lowkey kinda sad to find out what looked like an interesting and unique set of islands was just one of several "dive challenges" and had no enemies and only had 2 layers worth exploring
@@TheDeadOfNight37 Yes, apart from the 3 labyrinths and the 2 ascents to the temples I found the sky islands pretty lackluster also tbh but it is just a small part of the game.
I wouldn't say the connection with the depths makes the game predictable though. It is hard to open the depths and then the shrines at the surface still need searching or puzzle solving
I fucking love the fact that you don't blindly have to search for obscure shrines in this game. There are hidden ones of course but the lightroots help so much
Instead you get puzzle shrines, but thankfully they usually end up being a blessing
@finglechew2299you are telling another man how to talk
@finglechew I fucking will though:P
@finglechew You really fucking shouldn't
Been playing it since midnight release and I just found out accidentally that if you whistle while In combat, all your sage allies will rally on you
Nice.
WHAT
In lore, it makes sense too! The Shrines of Light banish Evil (the little monolouge at the begining of shrines, yknow the one)
So there being the shrines roots... and curing you of the Gloom... they are Banishing the Evil from inside of you!
mmmmmmmm tru
The layout of the map is also the same, the depths are just darker version of the surface
Well sorta. It’s an inverted world. So for any mountain there’s a corresponding valley. It’s amazing.
@@matthewjalovick and every valleys a mountain or wall
Every lake/pond it’s an abyss or a wall
@@vcrqzylol walls is water in the overworld.
Dark World, but for modern times, basically.
same goes for every landmark, the walls underground are rivers, the barginer statues are under goddess statues, etc
The bargainer statues are under the lakes of wisdom, courage and power. Are there smaller bargainer statues under the goddess statues as well?
@@akshatsinghal5293 no the large ones are under the lakes but also some other major goddess statues
I like how the light roots can actually help you get all shrines
It definitely helps since a giant glowing root in the depths is easier to see than a random shrine in a random cave
These dudes sound baked af, no wonder they found this just now.
bruh what 😭
I caught on pretty early that the roots were underneath the shrines and that the depths were an inverted Hyrule. Robbie’s notes mention it at the beginning of the game.
i realized this 20 hours in but yeah, the topography is also inverted. so water areas on surface are unclimbable mountains in the depths and mountains on the surface are caverns and trenches in the Depths. pretty cool!
Every mountaintop is a mine (good for grinding Zonite) every town is a refinery (They are called mines too, but they are the places you can turn in your Zonite). Not sure how the water is formed though, maybe certain level of altitude? You're also almost guaranteed to find some cool stuff lined up with other cool stuff. (Ex: the coliseums).
Thanks for the tip, I'm sure I'll find more Zonite then tonight when I play the game.
water is basically the walls of the depths.
@@jasonfinch3631 Yeah, I know about that. What I MEANT was: the water that’s already in the depths, how does it translate to above?
My best guess is a certain altitude, or maybe really wet places, because I can only REALLY find water under mostly the Faron region.
The funny thing is; you know those tips that show on the loading screen when you quick-travel? Pretty sure one of 'em mentions this. That or I read it in a Yiga journal. I know the game *definitely* mentions this somewhere explicitly.
When you first go to the depths the expedition team says it. Im pretty sure also they say it pretty early, but since we dont have either the surface or underground explored its not that usefull yet and i think most people dont even register the info at that point.
@@Crawzitow no wonder I forgot exactly where I read it. Been weeks since my first trip to the depths.
Oh...I did not realize this.
Edit: And now that I realized it I also see that any lightroots name is just the backwards version of the Shrine name.
WOW
@@riqoz That's what I'm saying man
this really helps with looking up guides too
I really want to see some mods where it’s completely lit up the Zelda lore videos I can’t wait😊
another cool detail: lightroots are the shrine's names but spelt backwards such as otak ---> kato
I learned this yesterday, so when I go in search of a light root, i just scroll my cursor over the surface map, switch to the depths and mark them
yessirrr
I did it the other way around lmao. Found a fuck ton of Lightroots & then used them to find shrines lol.
I finish All the Lightroots on the underground and then figure it out while watching the map, now i know where all the shrines are and if a shrines isn't visible on the map there must be a cave nerby to get to it.
So yeah, You do all the lightroots and know ehere all the shrines are and vice-versa, it can help if you're looking for one lightroot/shrine and you have the reflection on the overworld/underground.
@@joseroa5243 you can also predict locations of shrines and lightroots with the shapes of unlit parts of the depths
@@TheDeadOfNight37 yeah that makes sense how unlit areas on the purah pad would most likely have a lightroot near the center of a curved edge (someone rephrase if they understand what I mean because i’m shit at it)
they hinted at that in tips, im glad i saw that otherwise i wouldnt have known
Took me awhile to realize rijus ability will light up dark areas in the chams by doing a yellow 3d map of it so bloom seeds aren't needed for exploration
bro just showed us how to see in the dark
i didnt watch any videos until i finished the game ... i ran around in the dark for hours without knowing this
Just I heads up I do think there's more Shrines than Lightroots but otherwise yeah. There is a shrine for every lightroot but not a lightroot for every shrine
i think its the sky islands shrines that just dont have them, since theyre.. ykno... in the sky... not connected 2 the depths
all shrines on surface (120) have a lightroot, the 32 in sky don't
@@gljdds4164 ahh that makes sense
Oh i guess thats cuz of the sky shrines
I see nobody mention this, but the placement of the poes statues (I can never remember their names) are in the same spot as the prey statues on the surface where you upgrade your hearts and stamina.
- hills and valleys are inverted
- light roots are under shrines
- the forges are under settlements/towns
I'm suprised by no one mentioning all Bargainer Statues are under big Goddess Hylia statues such as all three spring statues both temple of time statues (Both in the sky and on the great plateau) and finally right under forgotten temple statue.
Edit: Yeah except of course one in the lookout landing.
I think the only one that the shrine isn't totally aligned to the light root is the one on the edge of hyrule kindom, where botw starts and the drop is the closest to the abandoned central mine.
And ur wrong they all align up perfectly, there's a shrine right beside the chasm n a Lightroot in the exact same spot and if ur talking about the teleportation circle at the great abandoned mine that's not a Lightroot so no shrine to go with it, the only shrines that the lightroots don't align up with is the sky Island shrines because the roots don't reach that far
@@joeyst.laurent1987 shut it nerd
@@joeyst.laurent1987 u r correct my bad
@@werneromling sorry I worded it so badly lol the beginning is pretty rude
@@joeyst.laurent1987 no problem, I just saw discovered the shrine is below ground.
This man has opened my third eye thank you for this 👁👁👁
There is an abandoned mine under every major city and a barganer statue under each goddess statue. Also water like rivers on the serface line up with unpassable cliffs in the depths
They explain this in the beginning of the game when they introduce the Lightroot to the players...
Unless you’re like me and forgot the camera quest with robbie in the depths, so you learned on your own.
As I recall Robi actually makes a reference to this in his notes when you first follow him into the underground. I'd gone down there and found a few lightroots already and couldnt figure otu what the patern was then that quest diolog mentioned something about the roots of the shrines and it clicked.
The depths reminds me of the upside down from stranger things except that everything really is inverted.
the first thing i found out about the dephts
Not just the shrines. The whole landscape is inverted!
Tell me
With your subtitles, do you manually edit/scale them in that way? Or do you use an application that auto edits em? Is it an preset? Pls
I did it in reverse and now have a guide to all topside shrines
I learned this because of a Yiga note stating that the depths are just an Inversion of the surface world and it clicked together from there.
Dmart as hell.. unlock yall😂
Zelda loooves their inverses. Ballad of the Goddess is Zelda’s Lullaby backwards too
You can also swap the mini map changing it in map menu.
I just realized the names of the lightroots are the shrines spelled backwards.
I feel enlightened now.
Enlightrootened
I also just realized that like 2 days ago and it was such a cool revelation
every lightroot underground reflects a shrine on the surface, not in the sky though
Y learned this 2 days ago, this have made my exploration for depths more easy, also, has help me to found shrines.
It took me over 160 hours... I feel your pain
The entire map is an inverse of the surface map, the ceiling of the underground is water level for the surface and surface mountains are valleys down below.
Fun Fact: The name of the trees is the name of the shrine they’re under just backwards.
The elevations are flipped as well in the depths. Mountains are massive gorges down there. Settlements and other notable things have depths counterparts as well.
150 hours in and didnt notice this at all because i have 270 stamps down and would never have seen it… dammit
it took me like 50h to find that out as well
I have no idea how many hours I was into this game before I realized it but I sure felt smart 🤣
Until I hit one spot where, despite there being a Lightroot, I couldn't find a shrine anywhere, no matter how often I went there to look around. There were no caves in the area and even my shrine sensor wasn't detecting anything. I had found almost all the other shrines on the surface already and they all matched up perfectly so I couldn't figure out what was going on with this one... until I finally did figure it out. That one really threw me for a loop 😅
that's insane. the time I could've said shrine lightroot/ hunting if I knew this 😂
Someone pointed this out in a comment section to me. Blew my mind lol
The water is also the walls in the depths.
Um it sounded like he didn't realize this but he was told this.
took me 80 hours to realize that :/
glad i wasn’t the only one 😂
You should be able to go up the light root and get to the shrine
Sometimes darkness can show us the light
70 hours? They legit tell you in the beginning.
I just figured this out today. I have played everyday since release... I killed Ganon having no idea this was a thing.
I lost my shit when I found out I could zoom in on Lightfoot, then just change the map level and ping where the location was
I…. also didn’t realize that
I used lightroots to find all surface shrines cause lightroots are way easier to find
Pretty sure one of the npcs in the main story line mentions this
I was so proud when I discovered this, then I abused it to find all the land shrines:D
I just use the interactive map on ign :D
@@DekkarJr fair lol
@@bluesandshrew1 xD games way too big not too. i like to explore but not THAT muchl ol
@@DekkarJr fair, by sticking to the lightroot method tho I actually didn't have to use a guide to find the shrines! Proud I did it without:)
@@bluesandshrew1 nice
I’m surprised not many people are making memes about how some of the shrines and/or lightroots have Sus in their names
didn't realize either and im at 95 hours
Didnt someone mention something about this like right at the beginning? I definitely remember someone in game mentioning this
i guess i just missed it 💀
I think it's either Robbie or one of the notes he leaves behind. Either way it's at least hinted at in the tutorial quest with Robbie.
I think the camerawork in the depths mission tries to get you to notice it since there's a shrine and lightroot very close to the chasm plus it has you navigate to another lightroot to complete the mission (and the accompanying shrine for that one is very clearly visible across the plain on the surface) I think it also tried to get you to notice the walls = water. As for what you read, maybe it was the tips on the loading screens? They say the surface and depths are intricately connected, and if you find something interesting in the depths, you should mark its location on the surface (or maybe it said it the other way around)
OH.
(oh)
Ay need the source for the pfp
This is huge,
Oh my fucking god… I have 103 of the shrines and completed the game and this never once occurred to me.
Thankfully they didn't make it so that the lightroot only appeared once the shrine was completed.
0:50 I gotta be the only mf that this sh*t doesn't work properly for me.
Lol sounds like quin
i have 275 hrs in and didn't realize this XD
My 7 year old figured this out
im 175+ hours in and yeah idk about this till now... LOL.
that means someone dint go to the deeps in 70 hours...
i mean everything its on paper notes from clan yiga.
i dint go to the deeps early but maybe it was a bad idea, now i not need battery 🥴
assuming once it was realized the spelling of the shrines and lightroots are reversed your mind was blown
How do yall get the permanent batteries?
You can upgrade your battery at the Crystal Refinery stations (One is at The Great Sky Island inside where you started and the second is just outside Lookout Landing facing Hyrule Castle. Hard to miss it). In order to get Crystalized Charges to actually upgrade the battery, just defeat bosses you find in the depths and sell your Zonaite at Zonite Deposits in the depths (commonly found in the same locations where towns/villages are on the surface). It’ll just happen naturally as you explore the depths. I haven’t been trying to max out my battery, but I rather just enjoy exploring the new areas. Next thing I know, I have thousands of Crystalized Charges that I can trade for about 5 full batteries!
I just realized this today after playing for about 60 hours 😂
hahahaha
There's literally an NPC that tells you this
haven’t seen em
@@riqoz didn't mean to be negative. You won't be the only person missing the in-game hint. Sorry
