This is my favorite movie in epcot, so sad to see it go and be replaced with an animated movie. When I go to the showcase I want a flavor of the actual country, that is what it was originally intended to be. They already messed with the restaurant, so there wont be much left here :(
Nyt Fury Totally agree! I will really miss this movie! I wish I had been able to record it in HD.
Not to mention Frozen is based of of a danish tale!
@@donjoey22 yea. but it is set in norway
I am very sad that this movie is no longer there.
I am also Very sad.
Was one of my favorite attraction in EPCOT. Showed the heritage of my ancestry. Now it’s all Frozen...doesn’t show anything of the heritage of Norway. Hell, Hans Christian Andersen isn’t even Norwegian...he’s Danish.
I wish that Disney World had a theater just for "retired" films like this. :)
@doctorgoodguy1 Yeah. Also to be on Disney+ and to be available for short films at iTunes Store too.
It’s amazing how vividly your mind can retain memories that you don’t even think about until they are triggered. Even tiny insignificant ones.
I went on the Norway ride at Epcot with my mom in December 1990 (I was 10) and again in March 1992. 30 and 28 years ago!!
But as soon as I saw that little boy in this movie walking around that boat in that museum....I immediately remembered it. I especially remember that the screen they showed this movie on was HUGE! Like IMAX size I believe.
Those trips to Disney with my mom are so memorable for me.
Anyway, thanks for sharing!!!
December 1990? I was working at EPCOT back then, "Body Wars" attraction.
Makes me cry 😢. I miss 90s Epcot. Great vid.
So beautiful. I wish this was still playing ❤️
+Joseph Smith Me too. It was a great movie!
Watching this always made me want to visit Norway.
Very sad that we will never get to see this at Norway ever again.
Didn’t you hear the movie the spirit lives in the Norwegian people.
4:04
I started crying because I know this show is never seen at Disney again :(
One of the few pieces that makes me cry immediately. Such a strong connection to my childhood.
To be fair, it was rarely seen to begin with. :/
ditto, same.., it represents the end of ALOT of things : ( :(
I was there the last day and regretfully I did not want to get in line. Yet another Disney masterpiece kicked to the curb.
The song makes me cry
Especially knowing it's now gone.
It's really beautiful. It occurs to me that they could still offer the movie, even without the old ride. It wouldn't even have to take up that much space. Just a thought.
Knowing the song and movie is gone now makes me sad.
This is truly the soundtrack of my childhood! My husband and I are going on a Scandinavian cruise to celebrate our 20th anniversary in May…I can’t wait to visit Norway!! ❤❤❤
Have fun!
It’s a magical place. Enjoy. I went there years ago, partly because as a child, this movie inspired me to go there. I even got to visit the museum in Oslo where this boat is.
My wife had never seen this! Brings back such good memories!
Very cool! One of my favorite movies from old school Epcot!
This video is perfection
Thanks for posting this; it brought back a lot of memories.
+Patrick W I really miss this movie. Thanks for watching!
Loved Maelstrom and the Norway movie, sad it’s gone. Thank you for sharing it here
I miss it too! What a great attraction and movie!
Very clear. No flicker either. Nice work.
I remember being scared of this movie as a kid because I thought it was too loud and waiting outside with my grandma while my grandfather went into watch it lol. I miss old Epcot so much!
I was trying same way, and then when I got older, I learned to appreciate it! 😀👍
My wife and I truly love this video. As we celebrate the spirit of Norway long before the movie Frozen. We are hopeful the someday go over and visit the wonderful people of Norway!
My God, what a beautiful melody The Spirit of Norway movie has at its ending! I so wish I could buy it. If anyone knows how I can, please let me know.
These were much better times at Disney for sure. Glad you were able to capture this moment for us. 😊
This is what Norway is about, not for more Frozen garbage,
+The Lego Manaic 518 I really do miss this movie.
Its so sad they gutted this classic for some Frozen overlay thing
Matthew Walkley I totally agree. This ride and movie were amazing!
Thanks for this. I miss the whole attraction, but perhaps most of all this little gem of a film, by the end so sadly scorned by guests rushing to tick off the next box. Yes, a few scenes were badly dated, but most of it was timeless, and delightful. Some of the best of the old Epcot; now, alas, replaced by a Fantasyland dark ride.
When I worked in Canada my roommate was from Norway and we would always laugh at the cheesiness of our pavilions. Really liked the music in this one
The moment when the little kid touches the keel of the Viking boat brings to my mind the Viking prayer in the 13th Warrior: "Lo, there do I see my father, Lo there do I see my mother..".
This movie brings me back the being a kid, reliving sweet memories, and believing in magic again.
Yes! I really miss this one.
I barely remember seeing this after riding Maelstrom when I was 4 (1999). It's good to know a lot of my childhood fever nightmare was irrational.
+Amythest It definitely was intense for kids. I remember being scared of the loud noises too.
As a young visitor from England, I remember liking the Maelstrom ride and this film best of all in Epcot. I’m sad to hear that it’s been given a Frozen makeover.
Thanks for this! I miss this video already.
This was a nice simple quick movie and I always liked to catch it once a trip...thanks for posting this! I would compare it to the original O’Canada, which I also miss!
I always loved this one too. It does compare well to the original O'Canada. I've got a video of that on here too.
This video was great. It made me get in touch with my Scandinavian Ancestors and my Viking roots. After all I'm 24% Scandinavian
Bless you for posting this ❤️
I thought I would never see Captain EO at Epcot again either and that came back am hopeful someday I will get to watch it again
Nice job!! Thank you so much for sharing it!!
TexasErin Thanks!
hated this movie as a kid, now that i’m older i would do anything to watch this in person again.
It's a well done movie. It should be first then Maelstrom
So beautiful ❤️😢
WOW It,s gone ...I grow up this film 1988 TO 2008 ...
It was a great film!
Thank you for posting this!
Nicely done! I missed this one!!!! :)
I miss Norway Movie😔😔😔😢😢😢😭😭😭🇳🇴 I miss MAELSTROM Ride🕵️♂️😎👍✌💖💗🇳🇴
Yep. I miss both.
The espirit of Norway has been ended forever in Norway and Epcot.
I loved the opening of this film as it switched between the boy in the museum and the vikings and the dramatic music. Reminded me of shots from Monty Python and the Holy Grail. LOL
My mom is actually one of the ballerinas at 4:47
How did images of her end up in the film? We'd love to hear the story...
@@Michelangelo0003 Well she was in a high tier ballet school when she was younger, and since the filmmakers wanted to capture a bit of norwegian culture, they asked her and her friends if they could film some of it. And that is pretty much how she got in the film :)
@@djnaklis5440 How did she learn about the specific film she'd be in and where it would be played?
By the way, thank you for sharing this anecdote with so many of us admirers of this film.
Which one is your mother in this scene?
Thanks For Letting Me Show This After Maelstrom Josh! :)
Thanks for sharing, had never seen this.
Does anyone know the name of the artist or song for the amazingly beautiful piano music? I have wanted to know since I was a little kid.
the movie could use a wee bit of an updating…just on some of the techno stuff and the fashion bit. Other than that - it's mostly about history and the natural beauty of Norway. I do have to say, the bits of the boy in the museum cut ingot he viking bits with the dramatic music reminds me of Monty Python and the Holy Grail.
I'm curious when a snippet of the film was removed. During the part where they talk of Traditions, with the festival/parade - an earlier version showed a glimpse of their royal family(?) on the balcony, several scenes show children waiving to them. When/why was that balcony scene removed?
I Betcha I actually remember this as well. I think it may have been removed when the royal family changed?
Shame this is gone along with the ride since Vikings are so popular now.
❤❤❤❤
What is the name of the song begining at 4:10
The stuff Disney used to do best.
miss this so much
Can't agree more!
@@acornies8597 me too! So sad
@@seancooper7325 going again in september and i still miss this attraction
Nice to have this movie now that the attraction has changed. I loved the ride. However, it was a smart move on Disney's part to replace it with "Frozen".
+cheryle ann I miss this movie most of all. But they did do a good job on Frozen. It’s a well-done ride.
Hopper challenge!!!!
I was one of the last ones to watch the movie. Summer 08
Laredo Sports Extra me too ❤️
Disney must have regular meetings about how to ruin things I enjoyed in my childhood. They have been quite successful thus far.
👍

Info on credits on film and music.
Laura Catherine That's very interesting information! I wonder if the director still has the original footage?
The spirit of Norway at Epcot is gone all thanks to a stupid animated Disney movie! Why did you have to do it Disney, why couldn't you add the Frozen ride at the magic kingdom or something added at Disneyland! Do you wanna know why Disney did it, money$$$. It was all about the money. Do you wanna know what's REALLY sad, I never got a chance to watch the movie at the end of the ride. And now I know it's not gonna be there anymore. Shame on you Disney, shame on you! Rest in peace Maelstorm 1988-2014 :(
+The Luigi Show I like the Frozen Ride, but I agree they could have put it somewhere else. That's why I made this video so we could remember this amazing movie.
Sadly, I have to admit that I blew by this after riding Maelstrom more times than not :(
Disney sucks for screwing up the Norway pavilion at Epcot.
It is the World showcase at Epcot....Now the Norway Pavilion is just marketing for a stupid movie.
4:08 makes me so sad, that this attraction will not even exist and the music is so sad..
Anyone know the name of the song at the end of the movie?
Ikr, it makes me so sad, that the attraction will never be here again
It's so 1980's

Hopper Challenge.
Amazon movie🕵️♂️😎👍✌💖💗🇳🇴
I love this movie too!

Something tells this movie and the maelstrom attraction didn't drive attendance. Think about it..the last drop took you down to an oil derrick in the Norwegian Sea.
Too bad that Disney destroyed all of this.
Every time I've gone to this ride the people opted out of the movie. It was not as interesting as France or China's films. Didn't really inspire anyone to travel to Norway. Ikea is so big I wonder why there is no effort to do a complete Scandinavian pavilion and give us an idea of the life in all of the countries in that area.
+MONISA MONTOYA I actually always enjoyed the movie. Maybe not as grand as France or the others, but I always loved it.
Strange, it's the best movie
+yohopirate Yeah. I loved this film as well.
