But grandpa decided to give it to one of my cousins (the eldest). Unfortunately he wrecked the car. Ended in the junkyard. Almost 35 years later, I'm still pissed about it.
Well you know a lot of manta ended in junkyard, they were good cars but a little "imprevisible" due to their bodywork, and when you make a powerglideespecially on dry road, unless you have 3KG of air in the tires or more HP than the origin all you can do is wait to land somewhere...
And I would say more: these “maricas” do not have an idea of the difficulties that owners of these cars have to keep them competitive with lot of difficulties to find spare parts.

unfortunately Fod Falcon in France are extremely rare i the only one i saw was for an exposition, moreover the only homologation by the FIA is a 2.8 flat 6, this car is more common in racetrack because it's a big car, heavy and it's not very performing in rally...
Not to say that I don't really love a good slide thru a hairpin. And those Simcas are a pure joy to watch. But what always gets me in the end is the absolute precision of the Minis (overall the best motorcar ever made, I think). Even in the rain they just pull along like nothing else. And those who threw in the odd handbrake slide in a Mini failed miserably. As if the car told its driver to STFU and just BE quick. No show. All go. ( I may be biased though for owning 4 Minis through various parts of my life. :-D)
Well being honest until 2018 I never saw anyone going fast in rally with a mini ( I mean a real group 2 ) And so I never saw the driving style needed to drive fast with thoses cars, always sliding from the front or the rear and It's really impressive I wasn't expecting something so spectacular

Oh, die Autos waren ehrlicher, man fuhr alle Konzepte, Standardantrieb, Motor vorn, Antrieb an der HA, Heckmotoren und Frontantriebler. Auch wenn ich seit Jahrzehnten (seit 1986 mit der 4 und mehr G Automatik) schon Automatik fahre und dies im Alltag die bessere Art zu fahren ist, man kann damit auch sportlich fahren, hier wurde von den Fahrern auch noch das vernünftiges Schalten verlangt. Ebenso Servolenkung, was ist das? Nebenbei, vor der Automatikzeit hatte ich auch mal den Escort RS2000 „Rubbernose“ 1977, der vom Käufer zum Rallyeauto umgebaut wurde) war ‚ne heiße Zeit. Heute? Es geht nur noch Allrad, Getriebe sind im Prinzip Automaten, Autos sehen nahezu gleich aus und sind im Grunde Fakebodies auf einem Renngerät. Fahren können muss man die auch und schneller geht es sicher ums Eck, aber das Unterschiedliche fehlt.
