  • Soooooo an honest review has appeared! But what is an Honest Review? It's where I take out all Bias as much as I humanly can and look at a product/item/service from a neutral perspective. If you see no review of a product then be worried about it!
    Today we're looking at the GT Omega ART Cockpit! I was sent this for free awhile ago but as stated in the video and as seen by the email I asked them if I could do an Honest review.
    I've also taken out the affiliate link for this video just due to the fact it's a review.
    We're going to score rigs in 5 main areas;
    Rig Accessories / Usability
    Build
    Comfort
    Stability
    Price (I realise this is subjective please see video).
    ... Enjoy!

    IMO, reviewers put too much value on cockpit build difficulty. Unless you need to cut things to size, drill missing holes, or if it arrives with missing parts, it shouldn't be a big deal in the end. Poor comfort, usability, or stability; or it having too high of a price can be deal breakers. So, ignoring the build difficulty, a score of 34/40 is pretty darn good. Thanks for the review.

      It depends really, some people it can cause a lot of frustration and we live in a society where build quality does have an impact. But just for the rig itself I do love my rig, definitely a good upgrade over my previous one :)!

      @ SimRacng Channel I’m looking to buy this art rig. How stable is the wheel, when racing? Is there a lot of flex?? I own Logitech g29 wheel and apparently, the stronger force on the wheel, the more flex you get but I’ve not even used my wheel yet. The art is more customisable but the pro is more sturdy. I’m so torn. Buy art version and poss have too much flex on wheel n pedals or buy pro, have less or no flex buy less customisable. 😐

    • @simracingchannel7691
      @simracingchannel7691 Před 3 lety

      @@grahamkelly8662 i can't comment on the pro but with the ART the wheel base plate is really sturdy. You will not need to worry about flex on the wheel base. I have used a G27 and T300 wheel on this rig and both had no problems on that side as far as i could tell. I will say however that since i have upgraded from the G27 pedal set to the CSL elite pedal set with a 90kg load cell brake pedal i have noticed some flex in the pedal plate when i brake very hard (90kg of force). When you brake this hard the middle of the rig also lifts up a little as you push on the pedal while pushing yourself back in the seat while doing so. Also there is no mounting option for the lower side of the pedal plate, it mounts at the top side and i secured the bottom with tie wraps. So yeah, all in all the ART is still a very nice rig for this price point imo. If you are gonna use a G29 with its included pedal set i think you won't have problems with flexing, only if you upgrade to a heavy duty load cell brake pedal set you might experience some flexing of the pedal plate and some movement in the rig.

      @@simracingchannel7691 thank you for your In depth reply but something else has come into the equation. Omega Titan Cockpit. It’s £100 more then the Art at £430. Apparently it’s super sturdy. Do you have any experience with Titan? I’m only about 5ft 2 and I’m worried I’ll make wrong choice. The Art has a seat that can be raised, multiple angles for foot pedals and wheel can be adjusted. Do you know if Titan has these features? I have a vision of either, wheel is too high or because I’m not very tall, I move seat forward and then my chest is almost touching the wheel. I may be worrying over nothing but I just don’t want to waste my money. Art has adjustability but possibly flex, pro has less adjustability but is more sturdy and Titan meant to be better then other 2 versions. Now it’s deff the Art or Titan, I just don’t know what will suit my short ass, best. Any advice would be great.

  • @gt4lex
    @gt4lex Před 5 lety

    The thing about comfort and having to use a pillow is more down to seat construction than the ability to recline. I think most rigs have a tubular frame seat, so you end up with areas with no hard support for padding and the lower back is usually where you feel it the most. I have that problem with my Obutto rig, and the seat is reclinable. Then you have fiber shell seats, which are usually way better as you have padding with support all around. I spent 2 full days in an Elise, 1800 km of trip, the Probax seats are quite thin and fixed back, yet they were really nice and I felt no pain in the back.
    I originally planned to use a RX-8 seat on my rig but the rails are too wide to fit the base. If someone plans to build a homemade rig though, I can only recommend sourcing a RX-8 seat, they look good, can be found for a reasonable price and you could sleep in it.

    You may have dropped points for the missing bar in build and strength sections. Not sure if i heard right. Either way. U may be able to stop the creaking if u can find where its coming from, likely between 2 peices of metal making contact and apply vegetable oil lighlty to both surfaces with a napkin. I say vege oil cuz it wont stink up ur house like chain lube might. My lady and i did this to an outdoor swing that creakes when swinging and it has been silent ever since.

    Hey dude, hope your well mate. Loved your GT7 breakdown by the way.
    I've currently got the PlaySeat and the pole in between my legs is doooooing my head in, lol.
    So,
    1) 10 months on from when you did this review, would you still buy it today?
    2) Did ya sort that creak out, has it get any worse?
    3) I watched a review from 2015 also. They were gerning about the pedal plate. It was tilting away from them when pressure was applied to their pedals. Has this been an issue for you?
    4) And their pedal plate was made from MDF, has this been upgraded to metal now?
    5) Lastly, do ya think its ridged enough to handle the Fanatec CSL Elite wheel base?
    I think my only other option would be a Next Level rig, but they're a lot more money, which I don't think would score well in your pricing system. Don't really want to shell out that kinda coin.
    Anyway dude, thanks in advance

    Hey Tidge, sorry late to the party. Nice review. Im looking to replace my GamePod wheel and pedal stand. The centre post means my left leg has to curl round the post - far from ideal. Also jelly like wobbly - and thats with two brace struts added that I made. I presume you're still happy with the rig - as you appear to be using the same one over a year later. Only thing, is that that as of Oct 2020, GT Omega have no stock of the Art seat with the XL RS seat. I'm not keen on bolsters myself - and I'm 100% agreement that you don't need them on a non-dynamic race sim rig.

    Great review!
    I got mine probably a week after your build video (and partly because of your build video) - and I broadly agree with your scores. I thought it was easy to build, but agree the lack of instructions is poor. My cross bar also did not fit, which isn't great either. I opted to order mine without a seat, choosing a Sparco R100 adjustable seat sitting on Sparco sliding rails. I don't do long stints but the rig feels great and solid which helps immeasurably with immersion. One thing I really liked about the rig is that the supplied GT Omega seat base allowed me to get the base tilt/height spot on and the Sparco rails went on perfectly without any hassle - so with an adjustable set you can get the backrest and base set-up spot on - I assume this applies equally to the GT Omega seat (?).
    I have zero creaking with mine so suspect it may be in the seat (maybe try a squirt of penetrating PTFE lube at the seat frame pivots?).
    All in all, I am hugely impressed with the cockpit - especially for the price.

    • @davyfong
      @davyfong Před 3 lety

      Hi Graham, When I wrote my first comment I had a T300RS. Now I'm using a Fanatec CSL Elite wheelbase. With the stronger wheelbase, there is a little flex. Nothing major but it does wobble the screen a little so I'll be moving my screen onto a separate stand soon. Overall, I'm still happy with the setup. No movement from the seat at all.

    • @grahamkelly8662
      @grahamkelly8662 Před 3 lety

      so the wheel will flex more or less, depending if the wheel has high or low force feedback? If so, do you know if Logitech g29 wheel has high or little force feedback? Also, do your foot peddles move while driving? And you say that the flex of the wheel, really isn’t much and not a big problem? Thanks for replying mate, I really appreciate it👍

    • @davyfong
      @davyfong Před 3 lety

      I'm guessing the G29 should be similar to the CSL Elite in terms of torque. The frame flexes a little, but not that you'd notice unless you were really looking for it. Ditto the pedals, I use the load cell pedals so put a fair load in to get full brake force. It feels very solid, but I did pick up a small flex. Again, not something that you generally notice or that would bother you. In terms of feel, it feels solid. It is only the wobble that shakes the screen that bugs me, so I'd opt to not mount the screen to the rig.

    Is there any way that this rig would be ok size wise for college? I know there is the f-gt lite and playseat challenge that can fold away handy, but I’d rather spend my money on something like this since it is much better for only €345 or about £300. I was thinking that with the monitor stand it could save space. Would I have any issues if I separated the front off and back and tucked it in a corner? Hi, how sturdy is the art version? I really want it because it’s adjustable for me, being only 5ft 3. I own Logitech g29 wheel, not used yet. Some say this art version is not sturdy and has flex and others say it’s sturdy. Then others say it only has flex movement if you have a strong wheel, what do you say? And have you tried the g29 wheel with this set? I’d go for the pro that’s apparently more sturdy but it’s less adjustable and I’m worried I’ll be too small to reach peddles. I’d really appreciate a reply because I’m itching to set up my first wheel set. 👍

      @@tidgney thanks for your reply. I ended up buying the Titan Cockpit with Rs6 seat. Well, I pre ordered it because was out of stock. Gt Omega stated estimate re stock date around 26th of this month. I honestly think the Art version would have been ok but I went with Titan, just to make sure. If I get on with Titan, I may order another cockpit and have 1 in Living Room and 1 in bedroom. I’m currently using my g29 wheel on a crappy small desk, in front of tv with a crappy hard kitchen chair lol. I love the wheel, it’s so much more fun then pad but my only gripe is that , even with force feedback turned down in all the settings, it’s still very strong. I’m not talking about regular vibration like a controller has, I’m talking about the wheel feeling rather stiff, I have to forcefully hold it otherwise the wheel jumps about erratically . I’m hoping this is normal and my wheel isn’t faulty. I was going to buy a gear stick shifter but I’m unsure now , as holding wheel with 1 hand and trying to steer is extremely difficult, especially in dirt rally with left right left turns at lightning speed. I even watched some pro rally drivers, cockpit view and there wheel don’t seem to have a mind of its own.

      @@grahamkelly8662 Hi I’m in a similar position, looking at the Art and Titan cockpit. Has your Titan cockpit arrived yet? As I believe they’re in stock now on the website to order last time I checked. If so, how is it? Is it sturdy etc? My main concern with whatever I end up getting is flex in the pedal plate. That’s what I don’t want.
      Thanks

    • @tanzeela6733
      @tanzeela6733 Před 3 lety

      @@grahamkelly8662 yeah please let me know, especially on the pedal plate flex. With your g29 pedals there is not going to be much force going through it therefore there probably won’t be any flex. But if it’s not too much to ask, I would really appreciate if you could really test the pedal plate sturdiness maybe with your weight on top or really pushing down to see if it flexes. Same goes for the wheel deck I guess, as I’m looking to get loadcell pedals and a stronger wheel base.
      Thanks

    Well you need a new wheel lol go get the csw v2.5 I promise you wont regret it and yo get that feel of thrustmaster because alot of thrustmaster users dont like anything else after using it when if they wpuld give it a chance they would like others much much kroe especially with performance put the dampening at 35 and the friction at 8 percent bam perfect also put the drift mode at negative 1 and if you want w little kore negative 2 I think negative 1 is perfect with the other settings on or you can just keep the others off and put it at negative 4 on drift mode and bam I think he other settings are better tho but yeah great stuff time for you to get a new wheel for that rig lol I got me a csw v2.5 the formula v2 rim and the csl elite pedals with the loadcell hell yeah it's a fucking amazing setup I will probably never upgrade again well mabye later with a dd wheel but with how little drag and how smooth the v2.5 is if you close your eyes it has that dd feel now I'm not stating its identical or anything but its performance is fucking crazy ans it spins so freely all you feel is the force feedback so you get that super strong ffb and that's it and it feels so damn cool and good

      8 months late, but we have a Logitech G pro DD wheel attached, works good, some frame flex, but good for us as the steering platform is all the way down. GT Omega do sell some support bars to help, but I would still think the frame would have some flex. We normally run the wheel between 6.5-9nm but it goes up to 11nm.
