HANK MARVIN the guitarist all players were inspired by, the man who started it all! I have NEVER heard him playt jazz before - SUPERB!! He is the reason I got a guitar and a few lessons then played along with him stood by my parents stereo. I would tune my guitar to the same as him and play along by ear to the tunes. Later I then taught my best friend how to play and he played rythm with me and we had a small band for a few years - ALL due to Hank. I went to one of his farwell shows , sat right at the front and the best moment of my life between tunes we had a chat about what I said above - he was impressed and a little flattered! Cheers Hank.
I started playing guitar sixty one years ago in the early 60s all because of the great Hank Marvin, I still play in a 60s band and we still play Wonderful land and Apache, followed by Move it and, do you wanna dance, Hank is the very best, I've seen the Shadows several times, but have never met my hero, maybe one day, God bless you Hank.
I have so much respect for Hank. Basically establishes and defines a whole style for decades, then dedicates himself to a completely different one in his later years.
WOW Pure Magic I went to his Concert in Perth WA on Friday Night at Centre Stage Studios Yes agree there should be more people like Hank in this World so good because he Lives in WA so we folk Just admire him so much what a Pleasure to meet him and the other Band Members BRILLIANT thank you Hank for a Magical Evening and the Pleasure to Meet you of course we loved you when you Joined Cliff on his Tours as a Guest Artist when he Played in Perth Wa Bless you.
This is wonderful music with strong connections to Gypsy guitarist Django Reinhardt and violinist Stéphane Grappelli brought to life again by the indomitable, ex-Shadow man, Hank Marvin.
What an unexpected delight to hear Hank play such exquisitely different music from what we were brought up on 60 and more years ago. And that NZTV hostess deserves to be internationally recognized for her professionalism. Great video all round.
thankyou thankyou THANK YOU for all this blessed relief to hear just that one individual whose playing of gypsy jazz is even worse than my own, impossible as that may seem..
compared to the best gypsy jazz guitarists like jimmy rosenberg et al, this is basic stuff but you’ve got to admire his passion and dedication to try a new style for him.
@@kenmorley2339 However You can keep a lot of your gypsy jazz pyrotechnics because Hank's improvs are so melodic which is not surprising because Hank has always been about strong melodies. BWT, i enjoyed Hank's take on this Gypsy jazz classic more and a lot of the version by the "giants" of the genre.
That's Gary Taylor who in the 1960s was in the British band The Herd with Peter frampton and Andy bown who is now in status quo. Gary is a fantastic guitarist and there is quite a lot of him on CZcams playing the Shadows songs.
Gary Taylor is an incredible guitarist in his own right. Extraordinary how he subjects his role as almost (but not always) playing the rhythm section and does it with absolute gusto. Only makes me admire him even more. In fact this is a trio, with added on bass, that are extraordinarily gifted, and what a player Nunzio is, he is right up there too!
@@D800Lover as his family we thank you for that comment 🙄 He’s not lived in the North East for 65 years, even if he wasn’t in Perth he’d not sound very Geordie. At 16 accents are easily lost especially if you spend years on the road.
There needs to be more people in the world like Hank

Hank is a legend and still playing as great as ever.
A leg end you mean 😂😂😂
This is why he looks so bloody young all the time and Django Reinhardt seems to suit him to the ground 👍👍☀️
My goodness Hank can play anything! His band is definitely very good.
Looks like the rhythm guitarist is playing 9th's up and down the fret board...I love it.
This is absolutely a brilliant combo, a breath of fresh air.
Hank is more than Apache that’s for sure.
Hank has serious chops. Best all arouind guitarist ever. Amen.
Strange how so few have seen this. Hank's solo is fantastic. Any budding guitarist should watch this.
I never knew this, I love Gypsy Jazz.

Simply the best xxxx💗💗💗💗💗💗💗🥰
Fabuloso!
amazing guitarplayer all styles
Yes grew up listening and playing Shads, Duane Eddy, Lonnie Mack etc, the first 50 years is the hardest.
Lovely interview. I met Hank at his house in Perth, W.A. He was very nice to chat with and no doubt even better to jam with!
Nice to hear from the milkman.
Is he still at the same address ? Seen him recently ?! Shame he wasn't on the Cliff at Christmas concert on BBC here in the UK
More of this please,
Sir Hank !
Sheer Perfection.......
excellent ...comme d'habitude .....!
Simply brilliant

THE BEST KINGS
Wow ,a jazz great too .
Born to play guitar....!
Hank is certainly Brilliant but well played the other musicians, especially the Accordion player, who is a very skilled player.
Quel toucher exceptionnel !
🙂 🎸 🎶 Unbetable guitarist
Didn’t know he was this good? 😁
Drying paint for the ears.
Someone like my comment because I want Go back here
Needs a whammy bar on there. (Not really). What a guy, hey.
How did I get from Jimmy Rosenberg to this 😏
I wonder if hank would play with the gypsy Kings they are a group that have guitars and enthusiastic?
Why did she not ask Hank about how his interest in Gypsy Jazz began? It's a big departure from what he did with the Shadows.
He also played on the Django Reinard festival in France. we saw him there
He’s been playing this type of music, as a private hobby, since the 1950s. But it’s only since the 2000s he’s been performing it.
She is obviously as thick as two short planks (and her makeup is equally thick)
He makes it OK to wear Gregories.
Minor Swing!
This is great music Hank is the best. But it pales in comparison with the great melodious hits of The Shadows.
OK Hank.
Do Bergerac...

It really isn't that basic, and sounds authentic as hell.
If you go to 9:40 Hank explains his attitude towards playing this music.
Can they play Shadows its like he can though? Horses for Courses as they say
Who's playing the rhythm who looks like Hank Marvin?
That’s legendary Gary Taylor (ex. The Herd)
So Rodger waters has taken up playing playing rythum guitar for Hank now 🤔
Lovely big fat frets on that guitar
Great stuff. The guy on rhythm guitar looks a bit like roger waters.

I’m surprised he has the skill to play complex jazz like this.
he sounds a bit Australian now,
Yeah real shame 😂
@@fletmok3548 - Better than what must have been his original Geordie accent. Have you ever heard that?

He didn't sound even like a Geordie in interviews from the 60s.
Nooooo don't play the outro head before solos 🤮
Marvin, go back to the shadows
Those jazz guitars are beggars to play well.
