Merveilleuse musique, très impressionniste, interprétée magnifiquement dans un tempo proche de celui de Duruflé.

Mr. Duruflé is my favorite composer after Bach, although some days Alain also captivates me to the same degree. I would love to have the privilege to hear this live once in my lifetime. I am fortunate to have witnessed the Requiem twice, Suite for Organ, an the Prelude and Fugue in the Name of Alain.

Wow! Terrific performance, Everyone ! I know this composition pretty well. Actually met M.et.Mme. D.,in Detroit, he was there to for his Requiem , probably one of the last times for him, and they were just off the plane dans Orly? Hot Summer day and they are shy, old, dressed in warm clothing, almost saintly-ascetic. I was in the Youth Orchestra they used to have there, under Paul Freeman , longtime and still now I think at the Film Orchestra or something in Prague, he got into a charmed life there right after his exit from Detroit , and also the highly respected and beloved Stockholm and Detroit maestro, Sixten Ehrling. So I am thinking M. Paray was back in town for a guest job and his great friend M. Durufle was in town too for it and so on. Two friends in the choir told me how much they enjoyed working with M. Durufle. High marks they also gave to M. Paray.
Well it was a ton of fun and I dove into M. Durufle's catalogue shortly thereafter. So I haven't done the Three Dances personally ( went into a way easier line, Law, after music tho I still have a faded FOM certificate of withdrawal [for college] somewhere, tackle box ?
And based on all that I give this rendition Top Marks. Excellent! Formal and plenty of respect, self- respect and self-dignity as a result. No Nehru or J. Peterman collars.

Oops cut myself off. Everyone did their job on this neglected and forgotten work, the Dances. Not easy. Not " Dudamel" and his Cha Chas for " woke" Episcopalian clergy who have no music background . This man helming the Radio Orchestra is terrific and so are the players . These people are for real. This is really a Concerto ,for Orchestra. Pressure extra on the soloists. And they do such a terrific job ! Thank you from Detroit and thank you Maitre Durufle.

The saxophone sounds so good!! I wish I knew more symphonic pieces with it (except Prokofiev and Bernstein)

Bizet uses them in the L'Arlésienne Suites to great effect, there is a marvelous passage for two saxophones in Bartók's Wooden Prince, d'Indy uses them in his Poème des Rivages and Villa-Lobos employed them frequently.

@@mrtchaikovsky don't forget Vaughan Williams' 9th Symphony! That an 85-year-old with mere months to live could produce a work of such staggering scale and fresh originality never ceases to amaze me. What he could have done with another 10 to 15 years...
