Fallout 4 is an open world action role-playing video game developed by Bethesda Game Studios and published by Bethesda Softworks. The game is the fifth major installment in the Fallout series, and was released worldwide on November 10, 2015 for Microsoft Windows, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One.[4]
200 years after a nuclear war, Fallout 4 is set in a post-apocalyptic Boston, in which the player character emerges from an underground bunker known as a Vault. Gameplay is similar to Fallout 3. Completing quests and acquiring experience levels up the character, allowing for new abilities. With an optional first- or third-person view, players can explore Fallout 4 's open world setting at will, allowing nonlinear gameplay. Additional party members can accompany the player, who will assist them in battles. Players have the ability to construct and deconstruct buildings and items, and use them to build a settlement, which can attract and be inhabited by non-playable characters.

The graphics looks like a mixture of old gen tech. Not really that impressive.
I really don't care about the graphics the gameplay is absolutely phenomenal as along as gameplay is good and no super greedy microtranactions and dlc not released every month and more than 24 hours of gameplay and fallout 4 has way more than that and is called great because of being lucky and not get glitches I'm talking to you Witcher which Fallout 4 doesn't have any game breaking glitches.

Danish Rayner And most people have only seen 3% of Daggerfall at most. 16 hours in been through 1/3rd of all the locations. And looted the towns almost clean. The place seems smaller than Fallout 3, but everything is more connected. Without the endless maze of tunnels.
i highly doubt that mate i'm level 35 been looting everything i can see and ive barely even touched the map... seen places yes but havn't gone into half of them. So unless you're place on nothing can kill you easy i highly doubt you have been through 1/3 of the map in 16 hours. Its been 50+ hours on hard only died like 5 times and i have barely touched the map and still getting quests constently ive seen places but i havn't gone into like a tenth of them let alone only starting to explore the bottom half of the map....

You're a moron. They were facing severe financial issues because their main publisher THQ went bankrupt.
The only thing that could have kept them afloat at the time was the bonus, which they missed by going 1 point under on metacritic. Which Bethesda screwed them out of despite giving them less than two years dev time.
Ubisoft saved them for the time being by buying the stick of truth and letting them put it out there, even after this they still didn't have enough funds to continue operations.
The only thing that saved them from Bethesda's asshole practices was kickstarter growing in popularity as a platform and their success with Pillars of Eternity.
This move by Bethesda almost cost one of the best devs to die out.

My problem with fallout 4 is that in the 7 years since fallout 3 they did not make any holistic changes in the game whatsoever. The world after 200 years does not feel lived in, it doesn't feel desperate, it doesn't feel dangerous. Death should be a normality. I should die all the time and eventually learn how to survive not by making a gun that does 200 damage, but by learning what works and what doesn't. I don't feel like a bad ass when I walk into a town and kill all the raiders in that town...it breaks immersion for me. I would be a lot more immersed and amazed if death actually mattered, not seen as an inconvenience, but as a fun experience. I would feel like a bad ass if I went into the wasteland and scoured for hour ls and hours nearly escaping death the entire in game day, only to find a few essential supplies. The game being harder by making enemies bullet sponges doesn't work for me. I would rather work my ass off to skillfully dispatch an enemy or two, than spend 5 mins having a back and forth shoot each other 500 times before you die.
Also loot is just weak. The game accounts for weight but not for volume, so as long as you are under 250 pounds, you can carry 50 pistols, 200 stimpacks, and 30 grenades. Loot in the wasteland is junk, mostly, but it seems generic and common, realistically find a wrench should be like finding gold! Finding cigarettes should be considered finding a luxury item. There should be unique mechanical, biological, technological loot that is as valuable or even more valuable as a gun. Guns should be considered only for the best, Ammo should be precious, the world doesn't fit, and it doesn't make sense. It's hard to feel immersed. It doesn't take a genius or a particularly creative imagination to think of how a post apocalyptic world would be like 200 years into the future. If that, just imagine a world that is in the aftermath of a catastrophic disaster. I can assure you it is completely different from fallout 3 and fallout 4's universe.
Survival mode is perfect for you man
The biggest problems with graphics in Bethesda's games is that they are limited with what they can do. The game has to run on all systems respectfully (and it does). But, the problem is that they can't go much else above that limit simple because of how vastly powerful the game actually is. A lot of people likes to make the mistake that Bethesda's engine is pretty weak. That it just cannot render better graphics or some other bullshit (at least from the people I've met)...
What a lot of people don't know is that not many developers has the type of engine that Bethesda has. It's very powerful with what it actually do. Most other games has amazing and much better graphics because they don't run thousands of things at a single time... In a single area of Fallout 4, you can have around 500 objects being rendered and effected at any given time. And a lot of them aren't even static at all. On top of that, you got AI packages and scripts running constantly. Control the living world. That is A LOT for an engine to run. Most other games will never do that sort of thing. They usually group up most of those objects as a single static...
And it is simply amazing on how it works. So, I don't mind sacrificing some graphics for that kind of system. Especially since Bethesda's games can still be beautiful with weaker graphics anyways. Just not the type of beautiful that better graphics can do.
seems like a really good game, with the usual Bethesda issues. waiting for patches and mods... (and a new GPU to go High/Ultra...)

This game just overwhelms me way too much. I love the game world but I get so damn tired of maintaining my inventory. Its just not user friendly and it causes more stress than anything. I never feel like I can just enjoy the game because I'm too worried about too many little aspects.
Well there are mods for that.

Survival mode made this game absolutely amazing. Teleporting around, op as fuck, never taking in the sights, and saving every two seconds wasn't fun. Survival mode gives me that sensation I only get from Dark Souls!

I had 3 crashes before, one of them actually did happen out of nowhere, but the other 2 happened while I was dicking around with console commands, as one would suspect. Other than that, and the aforementioned FPS issues, Fallout 4 still holds a special place in my heart. It's worth buying as soon as possible. Don't forget those mods too *cough cough nude mods cough cough*.

The best melee weapon you get is from a behemoth called "Swan". Ghouls stand no chance against it, two shots on the body to take them down.
Died the first two times, then I dropped 7 mines and backed off. Killed it in 7 seconds :D
after playing the ps4 version last night i can say it crashed once and yes i did fine it did have a lil bit of slow down but i found that the left analogue stick ( movement ) has a huge dead zone that i hope is fixed in a future map but otherwise its very enjoyable

Have played 15 hours so far and the game has stayed at a solid 60fps for me. At 1080p Ultra settings on a gtx 780 and 4770k on Windows 10 with latest Nvidia driver.

Just as I thought, I've installed the latest FO4 Drivers from Nvidia and am running most on Ultra with shadows set high /w TAA enabled 1080p at a constant 60FPS. 5 hours in and haven't had a single crash, overall it runs and plays great for me and am having a blast.

I like Fallouts 4 graphics, i dont get why you are disliking it. I think its amazing.
Im not a "judge a game by their graphics guy" but if i can make a list of how to make a game, i would put good graphics as one of the most important. I dont get why people just judge a game with their graphics. Look at FC3,graphics are horrible but I loved that game.
Did i spot an option for "facial reconstruction" at around the 3:30 mark? If i can fine-tune my original characters face anytime without having to start the game from the beginning over and over again, i'm really happy to use it, even if it costs me caps.
I mean that before DA:I introduced the mirror of transformation in a free DLC, i started that game over maybe 5 times before i was moderately happy with my characters looks. Having played that game now for over 200 hours, it would have been annoying to keep playing with a character whose looks i didn't fully like...

Its nice to make some improvements to graphics engines but as the order 1886 showed us, graphics alone don't determine whether a game is good and gamers and critics do a disservice to the game by constantly complaining about fallout 4's graphics
Sithari Warrior It doesn't make the game bad per se, man, but cheap texture is still a flaw, not a merit. I think guys bashing the game because it's not the best out there is bad, but it's also bad when we say that the flaws of the developers don't matter. Of course they matter, we're paying for the game, their getting TONS of money from us, every single detail that was put in the game matters, be it a song, a texture, a mechanic, a key-mapping, everything matters. The game has merits? Yes. What about flaws? Yes also.
Its hard to get use to NPCs faces after playing the Witcher 3, they got the realism of facial expressions and faces down right on.

Angelo Gerpel exactly, all main characters had different faces. I don’t care about regular npc’s having unique faces. It’s not necessary. They have smooth animation and that’s more than enough. not even once i felt they were the same character even though they had the same faces.
ACG I love your passion for TW3 so much because I share the same kind of passion. It’s so cool to see someone intelligently breakdown the goods and bads of such a perfect game and give it the respect it deserves. I also do not think it’s inappropriate to compare games to TW3, as it deserves to have that standard set as a benchmark for the quality that other games should strive to have.

gaddes scott That really doesn't prove anything though. I didn't have issues with insects, except for radscorpions, because radscorpions were always a problem in Fallout 3 and New Vegas.

on my first playrtough, in that mission where you track kellog with dogmeat, i remember having to beat dogmeat with a sledgehammer for 30 minutes to get him to finally move. 2015 right there

For those of us who are a bit older, mature and wise, we know not to buy games like this on release day.
Remember what a buggy mess Skyrim was when it first released? I will be playing other games for a while, soon this game will be "Game of the Year" with all dlc included and less than half the price. That is when I will buy it. Oh, there is also going to be lots of mods available by then. The real and best Fallout experience won't be ruined, instead enhanced and enjoyed like it should. Cheers.

I'm definitely back-logged when it comes to games--the Witcher 3 and MGSV, namely. Between work and life, I barely have time to play. I may just have to trade-in MGSV in order to play this, as that game really didn't do it for me. This year was a bit too waited with massive open-world games.

Maybe a year ago Bethesda would've avoided criticism for their games looking 5 years dated on their release dates but now, with games like the Witcher 3, offering a similar RPG experience while looking absolutely gorgeous, Bethesda have to endure this deserved criticism. There's no excuse for a PS4 game to look like a PS2 game, I've played games on the PS3 from 6, 7 years ago that aren't Uncharted 2 and look way better than this. Surely, they have to improve on their graphics cause it breaks immersion.

The games looks fine if not great. Ps2? Played games on PS3 that looks better than this? You are joking right? Bethesda aren't exactly know for their graphics either nor should they ever. Game is just fine with the way it looks. Games play,story and good content is what's most important.
+Matt Josh Last I heard you couldn't fly giant space balloons and shoot pink fluffy rainbows in Witcher 3. Bethesda games are known for their modablity. In fact Fallout 4 is a testament to the mods of New Vegas of of Fallout 3. RTS is a main force behind the settlement building.
+Jody Boles, Except Fallout 4 focuses more on citybuilding then story/narrative. Just look at how bad the dialog system is, how mediocre the side quests and extra content is around the main quests, or how many glitches and frame rate drops in gameplay there are. So, they didn't exactly nail what is most important in a Fallout game.

We all know Bethesda isn't known for their graphics, the gameplay/story/freedom to do whatever it is you wish is a different story. Just like ACG said, frame rates dropping isn't going to stop people from playing this amazing game (Perhaps the lesser generations will bitch and moan whom are the same ones that think Halo 5 is amazing) in which it's most likely the game of the year. Don't get me wrong The Witcher and MGS5 are both close seconds, But Fallout & The Elder Scrolls hold a special spot in my heart and I've been gaming for a long time, that those titles are so rich and deep and truly put YOU the player in a world so diverse and amazing that its hard for other games to replicate just that. So please don't let "graphics" turn you away from such an amazing game. ACG great vid bud. ONE MORE FUCKING DAY. :)
I'd stick with Fallout any day over The Witcher and MGS, but the graphical differences are very noticeable. Fallout 4 is simply a dumbed down game in terms of graphics, so it can run on Consoles. That's it. But modders will fix some of the problems, so it's not that big of a deal.

Edward Tigersoul Yeah, I wish it wasn't needed. I've played through New Vegas more than once without mods, but only played Skyrim after heavily modding it. As long as people keep pre-buying games, that's what's going to happen. I don't pre-order anything, I give my money only after some reviews, some demos etc.
Bloodbourne has chance for game of year. It was a excellent. There has already been a GOTY edition announced for it.

Bethesda open world games NEVER have top notch graphics. They know the modding community will take care of that in just a matter of weeks.
But some things can't be changed, man. You can change textures, but you can't change character animations, for example.
Character animations can be changed. There are a ton of mods out there for character animation.
Scott Norris They can't be exactly "changed", man, but remade from scratch, and character by character, every single one of them. You can't just reinvent the animations to affect, for example, all of the human characters. Even so, it's something hard to do and affects many things, like hit box, item placement etc. A 2015-Lara Croft style of animation? A Geralt style of animation? Forget it.
The only character animations that can't be modded are when the animations were done with motion capture like Witcher 3 and Tomb Raider. Ya, Fallout has never been known for its animation.....but it is know for having a level of exploration and discovery Witcher 3 and Tomb Raider couldn't even hope to offer in their wildest dreams. Ya, Witcher 3 had a good amount of exploration, but nowhere near the quality or quantity of Fallout.
But it all comes down to an individuals preferences (which will deffer from others'). I prefer a game that is fun and keeps me captivated over a game that is super pretty. Fallout 3 had horrible graphics. But there isn't a game out there that has had the impact that Fallout 3 had on me.
As for the character animations, the only ones that cant be tweaked without completely recreating them are the ones that are done through body capture like Tomb Raider and the Witcher 3. In games like Fallout where there is no body capture involved, you can do anything with the body and facial animations. That's because the meshes aren't locked into place like body capture software does.
Scott Norris You sure you don't have to recreate the animation from scratch? And even if you don't need to, you still have to modify every single character individually, no? Anyway, top-notch animations are very hard to do, it would take A LOT of effort to improve the animations of every single character in the game, I'm not sure some modders would do it for free.
And don't get me wrong, man. I'm much more into Fallout than TW and Tomb Raider, but these games have NEAT animations. Maybe Bethesda should hire better animator, or develop a better engine to work with. Imagine if we had this in Fallout? Game of the decade.

as a fallout maniac from the beginning , this fallout sequel made a HUGE jump in terms of gameplay and graphics. it may have cost a little bit of the overall RPG element but still , the emotion and character development was a big win for me. 10/10 would waste the rest of my life playing it
How viable is a sniper character in Fallout 4? As in ammo rarity, sneak AI etc.
Its doable but many of the enemies are suicidal and will charge your position, feral ghouls for example run faster than your char and will get in your face. Best bet is to build a good rifle and find a high perch on a building.
Graphics important or not this is just not acceptable this is pure laziness from Bethesda knowing the mods will fix everything especially now that consoles will have them as well.

Stereo Flava Witcher 3 has minimal content and exploration, if you're going to compare it to Fallout 4. The map is filled with useless areas, and some areas have things like flowers to pick for medicine I guess. Witcher 3 and MGS 5 are open-world games, but only loosely, due to the fact that there isn't much to do in world except walk from city to village or outpost to outpost.

I think I may wait a few months for this game, for some reason it just doesn't excite me like new vegas and skyrim did. Also it's a real shame that this game cant hold a stable framerate of 60 at 1080p with a 980, maybe there will be an unofficial patch by the time I buy it.
+Brown Cow A lot of next gen games have been failing to keep 1080p and 60fps. It's kinda sad since this really the only thing next gen can offer, that and of course a larger playground/map.
It didn't excited me too, man. But I think it's about "aging" in my case. When Fallout 3 and Skyrim were launched I was very hyped. Today I'm not that impressed with games anymore, although gaming is my main individual hobby. But yeah, I'll wait for a "collectors edition" with all of the DLCs and stuff.

+Brown Cow Just want to say I play this on a GTX 860M and I play with a solid 45 frames on med-high... Some dips when you go inside for some reason. But anyone who says they can't hold 60 frames on a 980 is doing something wrong
+Matthew Tinajero Actually as already stated a ton of times. There are issues all around with various cards. Bethesda has even gone to work on it. So if someones doing something wrong, its expecting every pc to run identical which has never been true lol
i enjoyed the video from start to finish. though i already own Fallout 4 so this review cannot sway my opinion on the game, it was a top notch review. you have gained a subscriber today. With the amount of publishers out there willing to pay youtubers to hype this game or that game its always refreshing to find a channel with quality content that doesn't have something to gain from a simple review.

AAA developers chose to focus on consoles themselves, because it's a lot harder to pirate games for them. And the industry has kind of built itself around consoles these days. If you have some time and a bit more money to put a decent pc together, PC gaming is still the bread and butter.
+Dreez76 Yeah. Or it's just the fact that the engine Fallout 4 runs on is outdated as fuck. I mean, Bethesda uses the same engine since Morrowind and that released in 2002(!!!!!!). Look at other games which are also on consoles, they look really good(Witcher 3 for example). Just compare the facial textures of Fallout 4 on PS4 to Witcher 3 on PS4. Fallout 4 looks terrible.

KA1N3R To be fair, creating a new engine from scratch is really damn time consuming and expensive. And I do believe they used a new engine in oblivion, but used the same one since then. (an updated version, but still)
But yea...at the very least they have 4 games (oblivion/skyrim/fallout3/fallout4) all running on the same outdated engine now. Time to make a new one... Or heck, just outsource the engine or something.

Silver Blades I actually quite like the Witcher 3 content/exploration so far. Sure, there's less things to find than in, say, fallout 4, but what you can find is more interesting imo. And I'd rather have interesting things, but less overall, than hundreds of things to find, but with barely anything interesting going on.
The problem is everyone is going to compare every new game to Witcher 3 now and if it doesn't live up to that game, then it's crap. That about sum it up?

+Eric Nick, What exactly is fantastic?? A lot of the RPG mechanics have been downgraded or are just awful like the dialog system, so it isn't just underwhelming graphics. I just don't see how push the goal post to defend this game when any other game that made the same mistakes as Fallout 4 would get crucified.

Vanilla FO4 base-buiilding is terrible. It was clearly thrown in last minute and has no impact on the world or story.
mikvance it's not only difficult to use and clunky, but the lack of the game rendering an interior cell makes it annoying at times.

I honestly think everyone's bitching about graphics because they fell for the advertisements of "Next Gen" gaming and they expect such a product. I feel that this game tried to retain the feel of Fallouts 3 and New Vegas by having some textures look the way that they do, rather than trying to make the most "hyper realistic" game in as far as graphics goes until this date.
i dont see anything in this game that could no be fixed and/or improved/changed in patches, addons and mods, its just the way it always was since morrowind

there are a lot of people who hate this game... Idk why i love it! The issue is the bugs and that's about it.
I'd say the main reason is the stream lined leveling system, technical performance issues, and simplified rpg mechanics. I just picked this game up and honestly I'd say anyone of those complaints are valid, but I must say this one so far is a personal favorite of mine. I dont think it's the best of the series, but i just love the moment to moment encounters I go through while traveling in the game. Guns and combat are pretty damn fun, I love the environment and the varied settlements, and the personal feel of having dialogue spoken out. I do think it's a shame this game simplified leveling up and dialogue options but the concept of fighting various people and creatures in the aftermath of nuclear war is what brought me to the series in the first place, which I feels it delivers on.

I just bought this game as an impulse purchase for $30 (Canadian). Just a day before Horizon Zero Dawn. I only played 2 hours so far and I'm already loving it. I will have no life for the next 3 months :)
I would like to see a Bethesda game that didn't have glitches or framerate hiccups but I digress, it's expected with large open world games, and Bethesda has been consistent in patching it's games to clean up some of these issues. The game is still great though building settlements though awkward at first becomes quite addicting. The game is challenging even on lower difficulty settings becomes almost nonexistent when you level up, then if you use the power armor which turns you into a walking holocaust of death incarnate, which is actually enjoyable. Overall the game is great and when the glitches get hopefully cleaned up in the upcoming weeks it will be even better.

Great game. I got it with my XB1 bundle. It came with Fallout 3 as well. But anyways, them adding a more story filled aspect to it to me took a while to get use to. I mean Fallout 3 and New Vegas had their story but Fallout 4 got into more depth in the story. Great game, but there are cons like every game has. I don't think graphics are one of the cons, because this been said many times an great looking game could have terrible controls that makes the game unplayable. Seems like everybody jumped on the hate the graphics bandwagon, because they're afraid to say they like the graphics the way they are.
is there a mod that puts the compass to the top of the screen like in previous games? its driving me crazy being at the bottom

phil hems I HIGLY doubt that. There isn't much left for them to do with Fallout. This was apparent even after after Fallout 3 and New Vegas. We have seen most of what we really need to see from the Fallout universe. Also, assuming they continue this 4 year in between games formula, no we will not see fallout 5 before the end of the decade. As I said they will most likely be working Elder Scrolls 6 or a new IP. There doesn't need to be another Fallout game. THey shouldn't waste their time and recources on an IP that has nothing left to be explored.
In your opinion. Fact is it's a huge franchise that is having another very successful release. Another half decade will go by and fans will be screaming for another game.

My list of complaints.1. Voiced PC limits you to a script , Bethesda could of included 4 non spoken responses to increase randomness.2. No consequences legendary creatures respawn after death.3. Insane consequences tick off a faction just a bit no more affiliation.4. Stimpaks everywear , and radiation what radiation. To plentiful wasteland most NPC's have full pantries.5. Only 3 main factions and 1 secondary. 6. The forced character background I'm always looking for my son even as very evil motherfucker .7. The fact there's more ghouls than humans .
