Good video but the mustang has never been on corvette level. Mustang is muscle car like the challenger and chargers but the vette is American sportscar and will be America’s super car with the C8. Just wish dodge would make the Viper again so the Corvette can have some company!!!!
Lets truly break this down. At 61 years of age I have seen muscle cars come and go, and in the beginning Ford versus Chevy, it was mustang versus Camaro not Corvette. At the time Corvette truly was a sweet muscle car but it was more of a chick magnet then of racing quality even though it was Fast. The true rivalry was mustang versus Camaro. And overtime me being a Mustang enthusiast, Camarillo always have the upper hand as far as horsepower versus weight. But then pushing into the future mustang finally after decades took the lead. So the next step was to go against the Corvette as far as I can see it which over the decades improved and it’s horsepower and muscle car stance. Is this a fair analogy, I think not reason being bigger motor more horsepower A price tag to go along with it compared to the mustang who is once again trying to catch Chevy. Now with all the components to make that strive different blowers different types of cans etc. you get the picture. Now we even have Cadillac some Japanese contenders once again you get the picture. It always has been to capture the blue oval. I am impressed at my age how far the venue has broaden to consume the blue oval, No pun intended. Long live FoMoCo.
You’re in disagreement with Ford about their ultimate benchmark with the Mustang. Well their prior notion. Now they think it should be an electric crossover vehicle. But seeing as how they treat the Ford GT as a limited run collectible only and how they make these specialty Mustangs like the GT350 and 500, plus the price those cars command, I’d say Ford absolutely thinks the Mustang is the Corvette’s competitor. If Chevy treated the Camaro the way Ford does the Mustang the race would be tighter. Instead they hamstring the same engine installed in the Camaro as in the Corvette because they still have the antiquated notion that if the Camaro has the same power as the Vette then people won’t buy the Vette. The only Mustangs I really saw dominating in this vid comp was the 500 that had the 100+ hp advantage over everyone he raced. The second one seemed to let out every time the NA ZO6 would catch up.

There is no competition there when base Mustangs cost less than half what a Corvette does and there are 20x’s more Mustangs built than Corvettes. Think the Terminator SVT Cobra and GT350. It’s kinda hard to throw the S195 GT500 in that group, it was just a big bad muscle car, but why throw out these big horsepower IRS cars, which is a handicap in drag racing, that obviously over compete against the Camaro if not aiming for a higher mark? If the Camaro was their target they’d simply produce their version of the 1LE Camaro and they did, the GT PP1 or 2. Why hang that GT350 out in the wind as their track star without any competition? Because their idea of competition when they were developing it was the Corvette, that’s why. It has always been the reason for the Cobra’s existence. The IRS, heavily modified engines and brake upgrades always outclassed the F cars (not always in straight line power, ‘99/00) in an attempt to give the Corvette some competition because Ford had no dedicated 2 seat sports car chassis to compete. GM didn’t have to answer to the Cobras with special Camaros because even they knew where Ford was aiming.
