You are right that people have a savior complex, and it ruins and makes people feel they are right and need to save people.
But, I think this problem has its roots in 2 main avenues - Bollywood/Culture and psychology of attachment anxious types - belief that others will make one happy for a lifetime. What we need are parents who are aware of this in kids and root this evil out.
In India we need a cultural revolution in parenting, which likely will eventually lead to a change in expectations from Bollywood content and eventually causing a snowballing effect.
