Sometimes you just want to sit back, relax, and watch a movie. Well, on the PSP you can do that! The PSP has a large selection of UMD movies and shows that you can watch... One of the coolest features of the PSP in my opinion.
This is why the PSP was so ahead of its time

it is labeled as a native media player but needs format conversion. And of course, the video and audio source might suffer from bootleg quality, at least in non-Japanese territories in Asia which few ppl care about the trouble that the format standard cause

@@cameronchappell729 hence my point, GBA video released digital on the go movies 1 year and a half before the PSP. Shitty quality mind you, but it was first, period.
The PSP can also play MP4 videos in 480p quality from the memory card. You simply copy the video file into the PSP\VIDEO folder.

I remember when I lucked out and got my psp. It was on sale at GameStop cuz it was the last one and they just wanted to get rid of it. The limited edition red god of war psp. Played chains of Olympus all the time. Took perfect care of it then a few years down the line my little brother lost the battery cover(the part where Kratos’ face was). I was hurt😂
I have the same one but my little sister dropped a whole glass of milk on it 🥲 still works just buttons jammed

I miss the homebrew days , downloading movies watching them on my psp during long car rides. Playing gba, gbc, genesis, snes on the psp too.
Man good old days!!!!! I remember before the digital age, I used to always watch movies on my PSP with UMD during trips, nowadays I mostly download & watch them on my iPhone & iPad during trips.
This is how my friend and I watched League of Extraordinary Gentlemen as kids.

Psp was so ahead of its time like, its almost like if It was a videogame that is actually a phone
PSP was where I first watched Lords of Dogtown, bought it used from a family friend and it came with a bunch of games and one movie.
God I miss having a psp so much. My first top notch hand held system ever and it was fantastic to play really good games like god of war, gta, ultimate alliance, ghost recon etc etc. plus being able to download music and vids was amazing!

I found my old psp after years of neglect and it still had napoleon dynamite on it.
I would be so shocked if the Nintendo switch can play movies in cartridges, I will totally freaking watch Beastars on the nintendo switch, that is awesome

The benchwarmers came with my psp and thats how i watched that gem for the first time was on my psp

I still remember being about 9, receiving the PSP 1000 & loading it up for the first time realizing mine came with The Dark Knight downloaded on it. Hadn’t even seen Batman begins but watched that movie almost every week on it for awhile. Good times.

I had Spider-Man 2, robots and both Stuart littles on my psp. Road trips were amazing.
Its crazy how good the movies look on that screen. The resolution is almost as good as a modern phone with 2k screen

PSP movies was my introduction to Family Guy. The set that my mom bought came with Daxter and The Freakin Sweet Family Guy Collection. I was around 8 at the time so too young for Family Guy but my mom didn’t notice the movie cover. I also remember owning The Benchwarmers and Superbad at one point.
I heard lots of stories when people buyed a movie thinking it was a game lol.

Yep I had a few movies for my period I had Lord of war, another movie with Antonio Banderas, and Salma Hayek, and one more movie. I can’t remember. I loved my PSP.
The PSP was a great system the games were region free so it didn't matter where you got the games from they would work but the movies were region locked you could also convert your own movies from DVDs or home movies from VHS, VHS-C, or 8mm
Dogtown was my favorite! Movie that’s was on the PSP
