You Don't Know... Mark Weir

  • Mark Weir is an icon. He's the tough man of modern mountain biking. The grimacing guy, charging down an ugly stretch of trail at ungodly speeds. The guy who kept pronouncing The Coming of Enduro long before anyone even took the notion seriously. And, despite his getting a bit grey in the beard, Mark Weir is also still one of the fastest riders on the scene.
Weir, however, is a hell of a lot more complicated--and interesting--than any and all of that. This short film begins to shed a bit of light on that fact, but this is just the beginning.
Keep your eyes peeled here for a longer feature story on Mark Weir. In the meantime, click play.

Man... I remember seeing Mark Weir at the Downieville Classic in 2009. That handlebar mustache was triumphant. Definitely my favorite rider and an influence on me as a MTBer. Awesome video.

I met Mark on a trail in out in the middle of nowhere up in Downieville. Dude was completely down to earth. Stopped and shot the shit with me for a few minutes, and then took off. Fast as hell. Good all around representative of our sport.

When someone asks me one of my proudest moments in my life, standing next to Mark Weir on the podium. I raced DH through the 80's and 90's, met Mark at one of my local races in Hollister and hung out with him in Downieville. He is such a good dude, my favorite racer, much respect.

i had the privelage or bad karma to actually travel with and race, practice, and everything in between that pro, pyschopathic downhill racers do, during the hey day of development throughout the early 90s, they were some of the most amazing times of laughter,. large quantities of food, and 7 guys to a condo at 350.00 a anight with hot tub on the deck while overlooking the ungreatful dead, i mean norba tour pits after all the hoopla ended and the pretty boys cycled down the road with backpacks of who knows what swag or important stuff they had acquired that day, meanwhile the nor cal downhill crew of misplaced users of illegal herbal smoking enthusiasts < allegedly> ...... would have a long into the evening session of bench racing . lieing. bullyieng , and generall harassment of a few deserving types, that had questionable behaviours, and a large unibrow ... of course not mark, as he would be the instigator and terriorizer of any who showed the slightest traight of a weakling with feelings, oh thoser were the days .,, mark i love you we had fun., keep on being the absolute dick that you are,
