This video describes the most exposed portion of our journey to Prince William Sound - across the Gulf of Alaska. With descriptions of Elfin Cove, Lituya Bay and Hubbard Glacier.
Your videos are not only informative, engaging and beautifully shot, but they almost soothing to watch. A visual meditation. I have enjoyed all of them.
I am a Scotch Irish girl, born and raised in the Appalachians of East KY. I descend from Dillion Asher, the first white man to settle the Red Bird Valley of Clay County KY in the late 1700s and his cabin still stands today. My state is land locked and traditionally we have been isolated and suspicious of outsiders and kept ourselves to ourselves. I just have to tell you that I have never realized until now but your videos have awakened a sense of pure wanderlust in me that I never knew I had. Thank you for that. The beautiful places that you have taken me to is just wonderful. I can't help but wonder how old that ancient ice in the glacier is?? The endless shades of blue are mesmerizing. Isn't the planet that we live on quite remarkable? I can't wait to watch the next Fleming Yacht adventure. ...keep them coming !!!
Thank you so much for your lovely comment. I create these videos simply because I enjoy doing so and it thrills me to hear that they inspire a wanderlust in you. The planet on which we live is indeed quite remarkable. I have been lucky enough to see more than my fair share and I am always reminded that it behoves the current generation to hold it in trust for future generations. There are many ways to indulge one's wanderlust and it is not necessary to have a fancy boat. In the Pacific Northwest, the state ferries provide a good way to get around. The ice in Alaska is supposedly around 400 years old. In Greenland it is more like 10,000 years. Thanks again. You made my day.
Another superb Video. I have enjoyed them all. I will never have an opportunity to see the many places you have taken me to. Keep up the wonderful work. I love your eloquent "descriptions" of what you see.... Thank You so much Tony Fleming for sharing your incredible life with us all.
After paddling my kayak solo from Skagway to Port Hardy in 30 days I can attest to the natural wonders our coastline has to offer and watching this video sparks my desire to explore it all the more !
The enjoyment of travel expressed through your beautiful videos has given me a most needed KITA. I am now planning my next adventure, thanks so much for sharing.
Why am I watching this. I live in Juneau and see this stuff all the time. Disclaimer: This video only shows the good weather, not the 100 inches of rain mentioned. I will say this video was edited very well and shot skillfully. Music and narration are top shelf also! Cheers!
Beautiful recounting of your adventures. All places we know well and love. Surprised you did not enter Icy Bay as it surely would welcome such a splendid boat as yours.
another beautiful video. I love them and seeing your voyages. How did you deal with the ice other and looking for the thinnest spot and going slow? Keep up the great work. And safe travels.
The short answer in "money"! Actually, the only brightwork is the cap rail. It is varnished at least once per year by a professional at Delta Marine Services on Vancouver Island. Two years ago it was stripped back to bare wood and started over. This brought back the beautiful wood grain which had been clouded beneath layers of varnish. Fleming Yachts is still working on perfecting a fiberglass faux teak rail. We are nearly there and it looks virtually identical to the real thing but without the upkeep.
Good suggestion. I will give it some thought. Venture spends her winters with various projects being worked on at Delta Marine Services on Vancouver Island, Ever since she was commissioned in January 2005, Venture has been used as a testbed for new ideas and equipment. Any deemed successful are incorporated into the production boats. So the list is long and comprehensive and not easy to put into a video.

Another great video. Thank you Mr. Fleming. I'm curious about your speed and GPH burn while at cruising speed.
Ken
We normally run at between 9.5 and 10 knots. Fuel burn is around 15 usgph

Morning (at lest where I am)your usual very high standard I can but echo the comments below
I'm not sure what the folks at Flemming to better... build phenomenal cruising vessels or make incredible cruising documentaries.
cool i heard *dust in the wind* in the background :)
Love these short films. How do you keep your brightwork so pristine?
I would be interested in a whole series / playlist on Venture's maintenance and upkeep.
