I think that save via Reputation was Kris's luckiest moment throughout this whole session. Also, o7 to Boros.
Actually no, absolutely not lucky. I can tell from GM experience and basic game design concepts, that was Calli's plan from the start.
No good game designer - including a GM - would put their player(s) in a situation where there's 100% no way out, otherwise you don't have a game. Even though Calli let Magni try his shenanigan, this scene was never an encounter, it was a *plot hook.*
Like Calli said in the session 0 stream, she likes to make a story that's catered to the characters being played. So instead of your stereotypical "You meet in a tavern (bar)" opening that's homogenized and has no connectiom to the characters, she used two of the characters' reputations to create the hook. Clappington's and Kris'.
Though I'm inclined to believe it was improvised based on the opening that the Priest was the one who paid that posse to bury them out there, especially by how the Priest is otherwise completely disconnected from the plot, and their revenge on him was more of an epilogue.
