  • In its first edition, the “Dakar Classic” category attracted 24 vehicles from before the year 2000, whose drivers were able to rediscover the feeling of being rally-raid pioneers on the Saudi tracks. Images of a VW Beetle, a Peugeot 504, a Porsche 911 and Sunhill buggies also stole the show on TV and on social networks. The “Classic”: back to the future.

I remember this truck from the 80's and thank you to the DeRoy family for bringing it back.

This is my favorite story of the rally so far. I had an old VHS cassette video tape that I would watch when I was 8 years old and beyond and it had the de Rooy family competing over several years in this rally. I am so happy that the truck has been brought back and that the family is still involved in the rally. Fantastic coverage and story, thank you all and thank you Girard and Jan for decades of great racing

This brings back memories and great that guys from De Rooy brought it back to life. It would be fantastic if maybe next year one of the TurboTwin's could participate, but I believe these are owned by DAF(?). Even with the dramatic accident in mind, it would be nice to see these monsters ploughing through the sand again.

is there some documentation to this amazing truck? How are the gears shifted? There must be two gear boxes and clutches... also a crossing of the propeller shaft... Do you have any links, plese put them into the description.

@Dakar: You are seriously presenting this as a Highlight of Stage 3?! Introduction of teams is nice but it is apparent that this video was shot long time ago already and has nothing to do with any stage news.
