  • Exclusively utilizing parts and expertise from our exhibitors, this GMC Sierra 1500 AT4X embodies Overland Expo's vision of the ultimate overland vehicle.
This truck was selected as the base vehicle for its potent 6.2.-liter V8, techie and luxurious cabin, and capable four-wheel drive system that features front and rear electronically locking differentials.
The stock pickup truck bed was removed and replaced with a 6.4-foot tray and three-foot canopy from MITS Alloy North America.
Inside the three-foot - i.e. “half” or “dog box” - canopy is a REDARC RedVision Manager30, which manages a solar panel affixed to the canopy roof and routes power from the solar panel in to two Battle Born lithium-ion batteries. These batteries power the standup-style CRX 110 fridge from Dometic.
Inside the canopy is a Camp Kitchen from Green Goat Outdoors, AluBox from Equipt, and Geyser Systems shower. Behind the half canopy lies a two-person Outbreak 1550 Swag ground tent from 23 ZERO.
Further modifications include 17-inch alloy wheels from ICON Alloys, which are wrapped in 33×12.5R17 Firestone Destination M/T2 tires. After deflating the tires, Viair’s Expedition onboard air system will quickly re-inflate the tires to optimal pressure.
The GMC’s 420-horsepower V8 comes to life with a roar thanks to a cat-back MagnaFlow performance exhaust system, which is tucked up under the body and clear of trail obstacles.
Several sets of Rigid Adapt XP lights mounted at the bottom of both A-pillars as well as atop the Rhino Rack Pioneer platform rack over the trucks’ cab illuminate the trail after sundown. Shade, respite from the midday sun, is created by the Rhino Rack Sunseeker 2.0 awning that is also affixed to the Pioneer rack. A second AluBox is mounted atop the Pioneer rack, which holds the rig’s recovery gear. Next to that are two waterproof dry bags from 3D, which hold personal gear.
Recovery duty is handled by Go Treads traction boards, Safe Jack bottle jack, and the Max Tool Kit from Forrest Tool. Passengers will stay safe and well connected to friends and family, even when in remote regions, with the MXT575 GMRS radio from Midland, ZOLEO Satellite Communicator, and weBoost cell signal booster.
All components were expertly installed by MULE Expedition Outfitters.

    Nice rig.
One correction is that BattleBorne brand batteries are Lithium Iron Phosphate (LiFePO4) chemistry. They are not Lithium Ion chemistry. Some overlanding and RV batteries are LiFePO4 and some are Lithium Ion. LiFePO4 is superior for many reasons including they are much safer (much better thermal and chemical stability) than Lithium Ion. Both can be referred to as "Lithium" batteries, but Lithium Iron Phosphate and Lithium Ion are two different chemistries and the names should not be used interchangeably like one would not for nickel metal hydride (NiMH), nickel cadmium (NiCAD) batteries and Lead Acid.
Lithium-ion can consist of two different chemistries for the cathode, lithium manganese oxide or lithium cobalt dioxide, as both have a graphite anode. It has a specific energy of 150/200 watt-hours per kilogram and a nominal voltage of 3.6V. Its charge rate is from 0.7C up to 1.0C as higher charges can significantly damage the battery. Lithium-ion has a discharge rate of 1C. Have lifecycle of 500 - 1,000 cycles.
Lithium iron phosphate has a cathode of iron phosphate and an anode of graphite. It has a specific energy of 90/120 watt-hours per kilogram and a nominal voltage of 3.20V or 3.30V. The charge rate of lithium iron phosphate is 1C and the discharge rate of 1-25C. Have lifecycle of 1,000 - 10,000 cycles.

Who made the rock sliders? Are they bolt in or welded on? Also, did you have to drill holes for the roof rack? I have a 2021 AT4 I’m looking to do the same thing too. Thank you.

Did Mule Expedition Outfitters build the Tray, or the entire Truck?

So why does this have a salvage title ?

General Motors donated the truck to the Overland Expo Foundation. But GM policy is that when giving away (i.e. not selling through a dealership) a vehicle, it must come from the factory with a salvage title. GM legal required this and would not budge. We were able to get it updated in Indiana, where the vehicle is titled, to a branded title.
To be clear: This vehicle came off the GMC assembly line and straight to us. It has never been in an accident or damaged in any way. The branded title is purely a GM formality. The truck is in a condition as you would expect to find on the showroom floor of any GMC dealer. I hope that answered your question.
