Billy the Kid: my favorite outlaw. He had beautiful penmanship and perfect punctuation. They say he was not that educated, but he sure was a heck of a lot smarter than these lazy millenials who can't even take orders correctly at fast food dumps. Heck, they were all smarter back then, and Mr. Tonstill was truly a proper, English gentleman.

Others say that Garret shot someone full in the face with a shotgun and the body was unidentifiable, hence the quick burial and no photo. Bushy Bill Roberts sure had the same scars as Billy is reputed to have had. And, he sure knew a lot about the kid!!

Jedgar Pat Garret ambushed Billy the Kid and shot him in the chest with a Colt pistol. Brushy Bill Roberts don't even look like Billy the Kid and he was about 20 years younger. I have Morrison's book Alias Billy the Kid and it's so over the top absurd it ain't even believable. In the book he has Brushy strip he claimed Brushy had 26 knife and bullet scars on his body. That means Brushy was stabbed and shot 26 times and lived to tell the tall tale. Brushy claimed to be in a shoot out with Pat Garrett and his posse. He got shot in the shoulder, jaw and the top of the head and the bullet went a inch and half back of the forehead.

I don't buy his story of how the Kid was killed. They say a conspiracy of one is plausible, but a conspiracy of 3 (or 4 if you include Pete Maxwell) is very difficult to pull off. The other members of Garrett's "conspiracy" were his two deputy's, J.W. Poe and Kip McKinny, who were standing right outside of Pete Maxwell's room when the shooting happened. Poe actually lived into the 1930's and wrote a book and essentially tells the same story as Garrett. Regarding the story of the Kid's "romance" with Paulita Maxwell, she also lived into the 1930's and spoke of her friendship with the Kid but denied that there was any romantic relationship with him. According to historical accounts, the Kid was indeed a ladies man and romanced many women in Ft. Sumner and elsewhere.

always wondered why everyone just repeats the same old stories they've
heard when it comes to Billy, and a lot of them say it's hearsay, speculation.
makes it hard for someone who might know some truths to say anything different
and spoil his legend. maybe another story is not meant to be told. One story
popped up with this statement. "Billy the kid is still one of the most
beloved figures of the old west. And he's still keeping people guessing".
now who would want to ruin that? Not me, but there is a Maxwell family secret. I
can, however answer questions with a yes or no only.

Back in those days, an outlaw was dressed up and paraded around town for all to see after being gunned down to prove the outlaw was no longer a threat. Some were in storefront
windows in caskets wide open. The Regulators were
The ones who were said to have identified Billy after
Garrett shot a young guy. Well, think about it, if your Best buddy was shot and killed that would mean that no one would ever be gunning for Billy. So, if I wanted to save my best buddy (the kid) I’d say “yup that’s him, dead as a door nail” Thats why the quick burial, no one except the Regulators actually saw the body…whom ever he was. This story in this video just doesn’t add up to me.

There were people in that little remote town saw Billy's corpse. Excluding Billy the Kid at that time and location the regulators were either dead or out of New Mexico. That really, really bothers me to hear someone who is suppose to be such a knowledgeable, expert historian make such a blatant error. He says they found the birth certificate of Brushy Bill and then says Brushy was born "after" Billy was shot. The "facts" are quite different as follows. If Brushy was "not" Billy The Kid, then he was most likely Oliver P. Roberts who was born in 1879. Billy was allegedly killed in 1881. On whose crazy calendar do we find 1879 to be "after" 1881? On the other hand, Brushy claimed his real birth name was William Henry Roberts. I assure you they did not find a birth certificate for William Henry Roberts. Paul Hutton should be disregarded as a credible historian. He simply lied in this interview.

Billy wasn't killed by Garret in fact he lived to his early 90's before having a heart attack. It's no conspiracy it's actually well known fact that Billy wasn't killed. Pat didn't help him escape he just shot the wrong man as he did twice before that. The man Pat killed was dark skinned Mexican back round with a beard, Billy could barely grow peach fuzz at 18-21 and that was well known by people close to the kid. The reason it's so hard to tell the truth like everything boils down to money. Do you realize the historical backlash in over turning that ? Millions and millions because what keeps Billy so famous is the legend behind him and once that everyone finds out he lived to be 91 what happens to those two only known pictures of the kids value? It would plummet . Brushy Bill Roberts was the kid many clarified that and he knew way way too much about Billy's friends , dates, places, wars, everything an he never came out and said he was the kid until the possibilitie of a pardon which he never got.

Mic Joseph You got it all wrong you are going with conspiracies and fabrications that's what all Brushy is Billy people do. AShenfelter's article "Exit Billy the Kid" is total rubbish about Billy's corpse's skin stained brown and had a beard. Ashenfelter was in Silver City and not Fort Sumner July 14th 1881. Hico and Hamilton have scamming tourist's dollars since the 1980's. There is no evidence Billy the Kid was ever in Hamilton and Hico. Brushy's knowledge of Billy the kid was not impressive, it's just Brushy folks that claim Brushy knew everything about BTK including things nobody else knew.

    • @wayneland8101
      @wayneland8101 Před 2 lety +1

@@attilathehun0 If I'm not mistaken, Ashenfelter never said he was "in Ft. Sumner" or that he witnessed the brown skin and beard himself. He reported it in a newspaper article he wrote. He didn't say what the source was, but it is possible that he got that info by word of mouth. Didn't his article come out several days after the shooting? Someone who was there could have traveled to Silver City and interviewed Ashenfelter. There's no proof it happened that way and maybe Ashenfelter did fabricate his story, but there's also no proof that happened either. After many years of debating this with folks, I suspect we'll never know for a fact one way or the other. But it does bother me when someone espouses "they" know the facts without considering the pros and cons of their statements.

I do not beleive that Brushy Bill was "Billy" It's Very unlikely that there was any "Deal" between Garrett and the Kid to let him escape. Garrett knew the Kid, knew his nature and persona, he knew if he let Billy go that the Kid would have showed up somewhere later in some sort of mischeif, stealing Cows or shooting someone who recognized him, Garrett would have looked the fool. Billy was not the sort to go off quiety and just fade into the background. No photographer for several days ride, in the mean time the corpse is smelling up the whole town in the July heat, Garrett was not about to take the remains anywhere. Garret did the only logical thing that was to quickly Bury the Kid, ride away from the Kids not too happy friends and be rid of the whole unsavory business. Brushy Bill likely knew a lot about the kid from someone who knew Billy or rode with him. He makes a fine tale but Sorry, he was not Billy the Kid
