  • To test a car like this you have to drive it ... vigorously. Here's a proper road test of the 2021 Hyundai i30N with 8 speed Dual Clutch transmission. Already a classic hot hatch in manual, the new car is an improvement in many ways and with the DCT box is a significantly quicker car. Is this the one car that does it all for your family? Daily driver, road trips and track days. Let's find out as we take the Performance Blue i30N Premium Sunroof for a shakedown. Mark and Stu take it to some twisty back roads to discover just how well the smart electronic differential, increased torque, clever electronics and revised suspension work. Ride along with us.

    I watched dozens of review videos for this car. So many of them spend half the video carrying on about launch control or redoing the 0-100kmh time or going on and on about the exhaust. One clown even made a huge deal about how many N badges there are and proceeded to count them. Your review stands head and shoulders above them all and was pivotal in my decision to order an i30n DCT and take delivery in May this year.
    When my friends & family who hadn't heard of the i30n asked me, a lifelong Holden/Ford man, why I bought it this is the video I direct them to watch. Without exception they get back to me blown away that Hyundai could produce such a great performance car.
    Thanks for your great work.

    Thank you for your review, after 6 years with my 05 Porsche Boxster I have modernised and changed to 2018 i30N. Being in my late 60'S my love for owning something that is not built for the masses still burns strong as it did when I was 18.
    Your review helped make up my mind. Had a trouble free run with the Porsche and it was a daily driver and getting up in klms plus wife was having trouble getting down into it.
    So happy with the i30n.

    I’ve had my DCT for a couple of weeks now. What a car! I’ve come from a 2012 C250 Mercedes Benz, they are chalk and cheese in a good way. Although reviews of the interior say it’s basic and plastic I have no issue with it at all, it does what you need in a simple manner. Base model cloth seats are very comfortable, much more than I was expecting. It’s so easy to drive slowly around town as a daily and give a bit of stick when you’re in the mood. I just want to keep driving even when I get home after a big day. Super economical on the open road and if you are driving sedately. Just go and buy one.

    Terrible that we don’t get these in the US. The “sport” soccer mom class of vehicles is sickening. We didn’t need the completely unusable 3 door joke from Hyundai.. The Focus is no more, GTI’s are dinosaurs and other hatches are pretty sad. I'll second that. 2018 Elantra sport, now with better breathing. I've always wished we got the i30 here in US and the Veloster just ended with the previous gen. The i30 saloon and hatch just look astoundingly phenomenal compared to the quirky cartoonish Veloster and the origami folded, slightly stodgy looking new Elantra N. But most of me still wants an Elantra N in spite of my 18' Elantra looking much more attractive. Hyundai builds the affordable saloon of my dreams (i30 N Fastback) but I live in the country that gets specifically stupid cars built for it instead. 😢

      Hi John
      We're no experts on the launch control with that car. We didn't try to use it with the extra boost so sorry, can't answer that. I'd be willing to bet you know more about launch control than we do.

    How does the DCT in the N behave at low speeds?
    I have an SR and it’s on its second clutch pack about to be third in under 60,000km. It rides the clutch and jumps and jerks at low speed.. awful

    • @inCARnationAustralia
      @inCARnationAustralia  Před 2 lety +1

      It was fine - excellent actually. No hunting, no jerks. Either the SR is a very different box (current SR gets a 7-speed I believe and ours was the uprated 8-speed) or sounds like there's something amiss with your car. That's not my experience with the SR either. Unless yours is an older SR with conventional 6-speed automatic.

      @@inCARnationAustralia I have the 2018 with the 7 speed dry clutch and it’s been a god awful thing to own. Otherwise great just the transmission lets it down. Thanks for getting back to me. I’ll take the N for a spin and give it a try

    Do you think they will ever make a AWD version and give it more power?

    • @inCARnationAustralia
      @inCARnationAustralia  Před 2 lety

      I wouldn't think so. Not in the i30N. Too much chassis re-engineering. Maybe some other model. But they might keep tweaking the power a little. It went from 202 to 206kw I believe with the latest model.

    Can someone elaborate on the presentation score. Are they referring to the interior and exterior design and materials used?

    • @inCARnationAustralia
      @inCARnationAustralia  Před 2 lety

      It's just an attempt to get an overall 'wow' factor. Street appeal. How much your neighbour might be envious when it's in your driveway. As such it's highly subjective and really can't be taken too empirically. Some cars are unarguably beautiful, like the Dino. But others might polarise opinion - like the Renault Clio for example, which some people see as a pudgy little hatch but others go weak at the knees at the sight of one.

      Enjoyed your Spa drive Thierry. You had to deal with a few GT3s making mistakes. The viper green GT3RS. The silver GT3 who indicated then moved over on you. Well done. Good driving.

    Damn those RECARO seats...
    I had a Evo MR the last one 2015 model they were horrible very uncomfortable not just there for the every day driver ...then i bought a Ford Focus RS....
    DAMN THAT RECARO......
    How can it become so good...DAMN its so good...but this RS is a piece of under engineered rubbish to fall out of two countries that build if not more vehicles to make such a good car.
    But the seats are sooo goood.....
    I know Scania has better seats for long haul driver.
    Evo is better on the road than the RS but the RS has better DAMN Recaro's....
    Lets see the Hyundai's factory seats....hope they are better than 1985 Mitsubishi Cordia seats they were awesome.

      @19:30 I do qualify that. Depends a lot on driving style - maybe more so than on other cars. Boost = thirst and has a lot of boost. Gentle cruising 7 l/100km became twice that when really pushing on.
