Check Michael on Stevie’s ‘All I Do’; The Jackson 5 on Stevie’s ‘You Haven’t Done Nothin’; Donna Summer’s ‘State of Independence’, produced by Quincy Jones, with a crazy all star lineup of lead vocalists singing backup, including Michael & Stevie. Ain’t no shame to the background game in fact, it takes serious musician skills. Smokey Robinson is completely above being compared to Michael in any way, since he is part of the fabric & foundation that Michael’s career was built on, as a writer & major Motown artist. As far as big vocal sound, Michael was never had the power of a Jennifer Hudson or Celine Dion. It could be said that his sound was more powerful as a child, pound for pound. Those singers are not just ‘talented’, that’s an understatement! They are also highly skilled solo artists with their own sound with proven market appeal & success. They all have one thing in common, passion, & Michael’s passion comes across so powerful & distinct for his personal sound on this track, no doubt.

Listen to grammy's when he sings in the end acapella, Thriller vocal recording, Earth song acapella. It's easy to underestimate him as a vocalist because he seemed effortless but others attempting to cover his songs always lack something most often the fullness, emotion... He was one of the most versatile vocalists, I can't name any other artist who could nail songs like earth song, butterflies, dirty diana, smooth criminal, thriller, childhood, man in the mirror, tabloid junkie, don't stop till you get enough... at once.
Even you're not alone, it looks like quite an easy song still there is no better cover.

Celine has always cited Michael as her biggest musical influence and when you stop to listen to her voice, it sounds a lot like Michael. She's done a couple of his songs before and she always sounds really similar to him, especially now that she's aged some. Unrelated but watch Celine at 4:48 lol she stumbled a little

This was beautiful. MJs vocal had been extracted from the original recording and compressed to be louder. It broke through so much better than the original mix we hear on the CD. What hit me about this more prominent version is the shades of soul we hear from Michael. Often his incredible vocal was overlooked because our focus is on him or the video, and I think these artists created an amazing contrast so we could hear just how good of a singer he actually was.
True also I noticed in mj songs he loved music and giving people something to dance too so on the studio version they put the music over his voice when his vocals were insane

Yes, I’m pretty sure that’s a new mix Michael Prince Durham has done with the original recording session. You can also hear that the acoustic guitar and the orchestra are more prominent in this mix.

I totally agree. Each has their own distinctive voice but really you could almost feel the pressure on each artist. They all WANTED to do SUCH a good job for Michael's memory and they DID!!! And let's give the audience credit. The pain of losing Michael was still so raw and sensitive for everyone, you know. I think most people as great as the performance was, just wanted to cry, you know.

I see a lot of comments saying the audience was whack and sour but I honestly think people were still mourning the loss of someone so huge. A lot of those artist you guys pointed out worked with and admired Michael Jackson like rihanna and will. I.am. Losing Michael Jackson was huge in the music industry and people were truly sadden by it. So no I think everyone's reaction was heartfelt and they really were feeling it. Beyoncé was physically moving but I'm sure that room was full of emotions during this performance

I read an article somewhere that said Michael Jackson has chosen Carrie Underwood to sing his tribute when they did one because he admired her so much. With that in mind, he probably chose the other 4 artists, and I don’t think he could have done a better job selecting people to do this tribute. Now, tributes are all about who can sing better and show the most skin, but this tribute wasn’t over the top and just beautiful. Celine Dion, Usher, Carrie Underwood, Jennifer Hudson, and Smokey Robinson. They all did a fantastic job.

This was such a sad time for music when Michael Died and every one came together because that is what his music does, brings everyone together.
