- Dan pours me a sample of Henry Mckenna completely blind so what do I think about it without seeing a label?

I really enjoy blinds, but maybe don’t give so many hints next time. Felt like all of Dan’s comments decreased the “blind” environment. Hope to see more of these going forward
Would rather they both were blind
Would rather them be deaf and blind
And dumb😂😂😂
@@Wild_Danimalthey just need to start reviewing moonshine
If you’re asking Dan to keep quiet we might as well ask him to not be in the video! 😂
$57 at Costco. Heaven Hill BiB is $43. Both are regularly available.
Was very excited for the blind video and then Dan wouldn't shut up and gave a dozen hints for absolutely no reason except to completely nullify the blind concept. Nice job, guys. Almost 👍
I don't even mind hints, but they were WAYYYYY too quick lol
It was allocated around here for a long time but is now usually on the shelf. Good stuff! Keep doing the quick single sided blind videos.
See this in GA around $59.99-64.99 pretty regularly. When I went to KY back in the fall, I found it at more than one store for $54.99 so I went ahead and grabbed a backup bottle 😬
Just bought a bottle in Georgia for 58 :)
In AZ they normally run 60-70$. Just saw them at Costco for 47.99!!!
Got one in Gilbert for $40. They rang it up wrong and I ran out the store lol
id pay that for it i would not pay 60
I get it for $48 in Gilbert
I’ve moved away from bourbon in my life. Moving away from drinking in general actually but this is one of those bottles that in the beginning was very good to me. Cheers!
Recently had a drop at my local ABC Store, Everyone else was picking up Blantons and Eagle Rare. I seen this on the counter and quickly grabbed it. After getting home and having a pour, I was very satisfied with my purchase.
great format!
This was cool Id love seeing more!
I think it is around $45 in VA when you can get it in a drop.
I bought a bottle of this from Costco out here in Arizona several months ago and I really like it.
My buds and I love this stuff; it's kind of our "go-to" share bottle. Being a person who never liked whiskey, this exact stuff is what got me into bourbon (my buddy had a bunch of these when they were 35 a pop). Here in NYC/Long Island, I find it pretty regularly for around $50-60. Just bear in mind, since they're single barrels, they do vary quite a bit.
Love the review. I just got around to buying one of these about a month ago.
Cookie's here! Have an unopened one of these from 2020. Make have to crack it open soon...
I picked up a few more bottles last time I saw it at $60. The good ones are really good.
I’d like to see you guys doing this format a couple of more times to see how it goes.
This is the bottle that got me into neat whiskey. My cousin had a few bottles squirreled away behind the bar at their wedding and gave me the green light to ask for it. Prior to that it was all Old Fashioneds and Manhattans. Obvs it had the big win at the SF spirits contest back in 2019 which raised its profile and then price, but I think this is better than solid whiskey at retail. I always want to have one around.
I was so sure you guys reviewed McKenna, but now I realized that was the intro pour for the old videos
Love Henry McKenna and love the format!
Good callout from Sean at the end. We've had a couple of stinker SiB HM10s. We've also had one that was next level awesome.
We compared 3 HM10s side by side by side a few months ago (from all different years) and the 2010 was very different from (i.e. much better than) the 2011 and the 2012.
XOXO
Love this bottle. Cheers my friends
Looking for some recommendations. I’m driving down to Nashville next week and plan on doing some bourbon hunting on the way down. I’m going to be driving from central IL and trying to decide which route will produce better results. Going down 24 through Paducah or going down 69 (nice) through Evansville and heading over to Bowling Green. Any KY only bottles I should be looking out for? TIA
Love this bottle
Great video , keep it up
I just bought this and my single barrel bottle is barreled in 2013 - two years newer. Still good. More baking spice, less fruit. Caramel. Oaky on the backend.
i like the format
This was a great buy around the $40 mark but I refuse to pay current pricing for it. I still have 95% of a bottle I was able to grab before the price escalated.
Mine was pretty complex. Super Okay with the stone fruits. It kept changing as I went back to it. Didn't like it then I did like it...I'd buy another one. Single barrels are all diff a lil bit
Like the format! More! Revisiting videos are solid. So many CZcams channels run through all of the "normal" content and then start focusing on the crazy and ridiculous, quickly losing touch with their audience. I'm thinking specifically Guga, who used to just cook normal cuts of meat in different ways and it was awesome, but now it's all ridiculous experiments and expensive meat and he's lost a core part of what made his channel good.
I love the idea of going back and re-experiencing the staples that anybody can find.
I still have 6 out of a case of 12 i bought, at $35/each. One of my first favorite bottles so I stocked up on it.
59.99 in Virginia and I got my hands on a bottle last allocated drop day. I put it through a 100 proof blind Saturday night and it came in 5th behind, Heaven Hill BIB, Heavens Door Revelation, Benchmark Bonded and Coopers Craft. Tater card punched.
Completely right on the variation between bottles. My first and second bottles of it were incredible, my third bottle was awful. Jury is still out on my current bottle
We need more of these blinds!
Fellas, what is the Magnus with the blue label? Thx
I live in Fort Wayne Indiana. How far into Michigan do I have to go to get Eagle rare.
I have half of a bottle from 2021 also. It is really good. Paid a whopping $38. I have seen some at $54 around my place.
I’ve only ever opened one of these and it was boring so I wrote the brand off. Guess I should snag another and give them another shot.
Was a huge fan when these were $35. I've got a couple, need to crack one soon.
Dig it! Keep doing these.
I remember y'all did a tier rating of the heaven hill line. I think Henry McKenna rated around a C or C+. As long as it stays around the current price, I'll keep one around.
That cat gave us the angry eye for like a full 2 seconds.
I remember buying a bottle for $39 when it was highly allocated at that price and I thought it was just OK. I still have some...perhaps I'll give it another try.
I hadn't seen a bottle three years. Now, I've seen four at around $55 in the last six months. Maybe a sign of things to come?
I paid $55.99 for one in Texas yesterday. It was $24 when I started buying it years ago (before Whiskey Advocate blew it up.) At that price, it's a good pour.
I bought a Bevmo pick and it is FANTASTIC back when it was $35. Then I bought another from a grocery store and it was horrible lol
This bourbon was my reintroduction to whiskey after a 40 year hiatus. On the shelf outside of the Midwest, Eastern Indiana? Not so much. Thanks for sharing.
I just got a hold of a McKenna for $50. It's amazing. Didn't they discontinue this product? I heard it will no longer be a 10 year statement or BiB.
Do more like these
Henry McKenna is a funny bottle. It ranges between $59.99-69.99 in my area but it sells out in a day at every big store in the area. The smaller stores will have cases of it just sitting there for months on months without selling a bottle at the exact same price as Total Wine. It's pretty wild how that works. The one bottle I have is very on profile for Heaven Hill - Peanut Shells, Peanut Butter, some stewed fruit but buried under the peanut, and overall drinks on proof or above.
I've only had a few bottles, but they were pretty good. Not worth over $50, but at or below, it's worth a pickup.
$45 to $50 now at Total Wine in NorCal. One of my faves.
Having to write this twice this week 😂 Less cat 🐈⬛ , wrote this this week on a Hooves garage good morning CZcams
I believe I have this same barrel number sitting at home.
Bl-iiiiiii-nd Guesses!!!
I stashed a few bottles of this away a few years ago...when I could get it for around $45.00
My bottle was like drinking paint thinner. Bitter, ethanol forward, no typical bourbon flavors at all. It was awful.
Mine is pretty bad too.
Some bottles are better than others....not sure what happens with these. I prefer the Four Roses single barrell at 100 proof
Picked up a backup bottle this weekend for $53
$55-65 here in Mn. Not a great price but the juice is damn good to me
I've had three different ones and they were all terrible. I like HH6 (RIP) and EW Sib and 12Yr, but I just cant get behind this bottle. Guessing high variance single barrels but I wont spend my money on them anymore.
Look at all them Schmoo Shrun bottles in the background.
I agree, when McKenna is a good barrel, it's really good - but I've had bad barrels/bottles too.
I drank some james e pepper rye today very good
I regularly see these for around $59 but would be more of a McKenna fan at around $30-$35. In my opinion there's much better bottles out there for less but I accept that my taste is different from a lot of other folks on this bottle.
ya know, instead of Celsius, there's always coffee. ☕ Cheers!
Yea my normal day has a couple shots throughout
I'd love to see this 2021 bottle vs 2024 bottle. Think it has gone backwards
I always keep a backup. But if it was 35 stones, I'd have a case. It's $64 in Ohio.
Maybe I got a skunky bottle (not likely being BIB), but it just didn't taste good. A friend that likes HMcK tasted it and said it tasted normal to him, so he got an early birthday bottle.
I like this bottle a lot and have no problem paying $60.
Locally, when available, these have dropped back down to 48.95 a bottle.
Blinds always turn out interesting.....great fun that everyone can do!
Saw it for $59.99 in a store the other day and turned it down because the only 2 I’ve bought have been crap. Not worth the risk for me to keep hoping for a good barrel.
While it is a $46 bourbon you should not pay more than $50. One of my absolute favorites and while these are a single barrel they seem to be pretty consistent for me.
I hear people are all over the place with their bottles. I love mine. But haven’t dipped into any others bc of the insane markups. This bottle should not be over $50-60 tops.
I enjoy this BiB much more than old forester BiB
One thing to keep in mind is that HMK10 is a single barrel product. IME, Heaven Hill's quality control on this line is poor. 90%+ barrels on the market are sub-par. Might as well spend the money to buy ECBP or Larceny BP.
Love the format! However, it would be much better if both Dan and Sean were blind. Feels like Sean was influenced by Dan's comments too much. This way we get an honest review of what is inside the bottle.
Yes yes it is
I did not get fruit medley on my bottle. Good, but I would be disappointed at $70, which is $85+ with Washington's grab-your-ankles tax.
I bought 8 of em at $35 and then they won an award and poof they disappeared and come back at a 80% price increase. It’s good, but I feel burned and refuse to buy ever again. I have 1 bottle left at my parents house. Obviously just my personal opinion and choices. No judgement from me what folks choose to consume.
“Power bottom, dude” - Dan
What always seems to get lost in discussion- these are Single Barrels, I’ve had some really good ones and some mediocre ones.
I understand that every barrel will be different from the next but my bottle of this stuff is terrible. So disappointing. That being said my friend has a bottle and I was completely blown away.
It was great when it was $25 a bottle and always on the shelf. Now, as an $80 unicorn? Not so much.
Team Cookie!
I have a bottle of H McKenna and it might be the worst bottle I own. I pour a once every few months. And it’s awful. Everyone one that’s into bourbon says I must have got a bad bottle since it’s SB. Not gonna risk buying another when there is so much good bourbon readily available
When when they're at Costco they're only $48
My bottle of McKenna10 is below mediocre. I have no intention of ever buying another unless I get to try it first.
This format isn’t bad but I’d rather see both of you blinded.
It's a blind rating, but we're going to tell him everything he needs to know what it is. WTH?!
Dan wants to remove all bias from Sean to see if HM10 is still good. Then Dan continues to talk so much Sean can’t get a word in, while dropping so many clues the biases Dan was trying to avoid became front and center.
And it still should be 35-40 doll hairs.
Recently picked up a bottle of this. I can’t pull any tasting notes at all from it. It’s just spicy. Not pleasant. Wasted 80 dollars 🤷🏻♂️
I wish more Bourbons would have age statements, but that’s just me.
One of my few bottles I avoid....never cared for it from the moment I opened it.
This is the only Heaven Hill product I’ve liked. I haven’t liked an ECBP and I really don’t like Elijah Craig toasted
Totally saw it. I call alcohol abuse!
Format this
I've had 2 different SiB's and they were both forgettable 😂\
At $60 now I'm reaching for Russell's SiB
My bottle is terrible. Just bitter oak. I don’t like when things are very hit or miss. Won’t risk it buying another
Prices are starting to go down on them... don't hype them up again
