Wow, that is beautiful! I also did a small song that is uploaded here on CZcams using only the D-50 patch soundtrack. A beautiful patch that always moves me!
Actually there are other reasons. Of the original factory patches, Soundtrack is probably the best... A close second is Combie Strings. This synth has a lot of potential even today.
It has no stock drum sets or percussion. I know it is possible to program it to make sounds that somewhat resembles drums and percussion . (Unlike the D5/10/20 which have built in drums and percussion)
JonFinnerud The Roland MT-32 patch "Fantasy (Fantasia)" that is similar to the modified Roland D-50 internal patch "Fantasia" that was heard in the New Order song "Vanishing Point" was heard in the song "Vanishing Point" (the 1989 New Order song).

The Roland D-50 internal patch "Soundtrack" is similar to the Roland D-50 PN-D50-01 patch "Pulse Pad".
I had to check and you're absolutely right :) It seems almost like a Roland signature from that era as the MT-32 also has a similar patch
