It's such a shame that these markets are dwindling these days, I love walking around the markets and looking at everything there is to see. I do spend a bit on what I need but sometimes see that "shiny thing" and end up buying that too. Great video.
Big ups to the Market Officer and a great representative of Leicester Council. Also guys don't give the such a shame markets are dwindling nonsense use em or lose em its simple.
It's a crying shame that we're loosing all these wonderful Markets around the UK.
The local Councils are the ones to blame for the demise in them.!
that is how every security guard should be, curious but not annoying, respectfully engaging with the public 😁👌
You could always get a stall selling key rings.
He'd give them all away for free!
All the markets around me have all gone now. I loved a wander around the outdoor markets seeing what bargains I could pick up.
wow i live in leicester and i haven't herd nothing on the news about this good work mate keep it up
Gosh thats a blast from my past..i used to go there every Saturday morning with my mum and i worked on a fruit and veg stall when i was 15...
In my city they have already (in the last 10 years) or they will be in the next few years):
1 - Relocated shops we already had on a main street, to a newly built shopping centre 8 years ago.
2 - Relocating market stalls from an indoor shopping centre, to a newly built indoor and outdoor shopping centre, on the previously mentioned main street, planned to open in Summer 2023.
3 - Demolishing a shopping centre with another indoor market, which will be replaced with green space, housing and small retail spaces, in the next few years.
4 - Plus the soon to be derelict indoor market will also be demolished in Autumn 2023.
5 - I've got no idea where the shops from the shopping centre/indoor market combo are going to be moving to, as there's a lot of high street chains in there, yet there won't be a high street after the demolition, plus I'm struggling to see where else they'll go in our relatively small city centre (although we have at least 4 more shopping town centres across the city).
It's basically just a big commercial game of musical chairs imo, and would've been better with an unqualified person like me planning the city centre, rather than the councillor who is in charge.
6 - A New Mosque 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
It's the big supermarkets, that have put corner shops & markets like this out of business, then put there prices up. Disgusting.
Markets will soon be back buzzing with the 15 minutes towns and cities enjoy😊
Keep these audits going I enjoy them immensely
The Puma Tracki , were gonna smash it all down and build a Mosque 🤣🤣🤣
I'm here all week Boss..................................
Here in the USA big box stores have taken over and replaced the "flee markets".
Doncaster market used to be the life of the centre. Being able to barter is a skill. I got paid as a kid taking down market stalls before being old enough to work. Paid more than my paper round too
we had a market like that near me and they re furbished that in to a car park
Loved that video. A great little insight into the city I've lived in most of my life. Although, I did find myself urging you to follow the problem and stop looking in the recycling bins.
Used to buy apples from Gary Lineker dad in this market.
Markets have been dying for years. I was a market manager for Bournemouth Council but shops like the pound shop and primark have had a big effect on Markets everywhere. Farmers markets seem to do okay because people like getting their food from the main man
My parents spent nearly 50 years on Leicester Market as well as Hinckley, Birmingham, Market Rasen, St. Ives Cambridge, Loughborough markets as traders and that Market in Leicester was THRIVING during the 60's, 70's 80's 90's...but its gradually declined and declined over the years!! Now it's 50% empty!! Absolutely criminal!!
What's the difference between these and farmer markets??
Nice to see you in our home town. Maybe you could do more videos in Leicester City Center.?
Its a shame that the markets have become so empty these days🥰👍
It was interesting, I used to go around Birmingham markets all the time, never knew all what was involved in setting up a stall.
YES DJ.... I have a keyring for you if you ever venture down this way... Droitwich, variety of different industries 👍🏻
This is happening to Northampton market, they moved all the stalls to a crappy car park on the edge of town struggling to make any money, and are spending millions refurbishing it. it wont look any different
Love that market , travel often from derby to go to that market
The reason why councils spend so much is "middle men". Contracts are awarded to "consultants" who in turn employ others, who sub contract out work, increasing the price of jobs, sometimes three-fold.
Good content again DJ
It's a great place to get your fresh fruit & veg from. Cheap as chips compared to supermarket prices, and it tastes better as it's not been frozen and stored for months beforehand. The new Market will totally enclosed and shut off night-time, as its was used as a public toilet at nights, plus rough sleepers, and drug taking.
Been to that CEX a few times! And that market!
So sad to see the once thriving Leicester Market run down like that. Used to be the go-to place for pretty much everything years back.
Seemed like really nice folks.
I miss the markets grew up wi em as a nipper,, every other saturday wi me mam, they were choablock back in the 80's, then the late 90's I worked near my local market, loved walking abaht on me dinner break wi a butty finding a good buy to take home,, It's a true british pass time that's faded away many memorys & stall keepers I can recall,, hard working british As ya do!!
Good video, Very interesting.
You got some interesting info out - shame markets are dying...the times are a changing
Pleasant look-see, mes amis...what ?
What a loveiy Bloke,,,,,,,,,
I like your drom music DJ audits when is up in the sky
DJ, come to Loughborough Market, on a Thursday, then you will see a busy market.
I would be interested to see the new market building if and when it gets built. You'll have to go back.
All Council Rates will be going up too. Councils all around the Country ripping of hard working people. Rip of Britain...Well done DJ
What is going on in the UK ? Every video I watch nowdays the high streets and shops are all empty 😮
Changing shopping habits (online shopping), financial crisis, energy costs, poor economy, zero economic growth, very expensive imports (high tariffs, customs fees etc), low value of sterling, incompetent government, and all compounded by the effects of Brexit. You get what you vote for.
@@dr_dr LOL!!!!!! Here is a fact for you, food prices in most EU countries are higher than in the UK, and inflation is also higher, go figure!
Oh, and before you decide to come out with all your remoaner crap, just google it, education works wonders and will
save us both a lot of time and finally, just get over it dude 🤣🤣🤣🤣😂😂😂
@@dr_dr Sad to see 🤥
@@dr_dr You forgot the Migrants? 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
@@Theoriginalbigbrillo small mind you have, migrants are giving life to this dying economy. You'd think the former brexiteers would be embarassed for their faulty logic but we still have some that didn't get the memo
6:31 photo bomb 😂
I miss all the old markets and auctions ... we used to have regular auctions of second hand shit too and that never happens any more. It's a real shame.
Supermarkets have killed the market’s, my wife would rather pick her own fruit, veg and meat in the supermarket rather than the market stall holder giving her what he pick’s up
Good info. Got the feeling that something is not adding up here.......
💯👍👍👍👍
Found an immigrant hotel near Quorn Leicestershire
Dj they have moved the one in Northampton to a car park outside of the town center the markets are going to die in every town and city.
Like to see market’s still going but wouldn’t be surprised if there gone before long Especially with cash being wiped out
DJ ARE YOU CHANGING THE WAY YOU DO YOUR AUDITS
Did you know the Chuckle Brothers actually filmed in there before
That officer was very helpful and knowledgable , but somehow I kept hearing Trigger from OFAH .
You should check out oadby industrial estate next
Please come and audit neovia logistics at peckleton lane desford
*DJ audit is very low on keyrings so only dished out today* 😅
DJ u should sell your keyrings there lol they like gold hahah
Future car park, that’s bank.
The market is on its last legs
The parents of Ex-England footballer Gary Linaker sell fruit and veg on that market, or at least they used to. True story.
I used to buy from them. When Gary made it they got a new sparkly sign.
@@garyfreeman896 Well done Gary, nice reply mate and good to get confirmation by someone else in the know. (Not sure why 'DJ' isn't hearting any of my comments; think I've upset him by trolling some of the other auditors) Thanks again Gary.
Jug eared c*nt. should have aborted him pre birth 😂
Yes true story I used to get my turnips from there.
They also had a shop on beatrice Road in Newfoundpool too.
It’s gone now
2 for a pownd
When it comes to councils and local planning, 7 million is nothing. Four million or more will have gone in consultancy and brown envelopes.
Policies to deter driving and parking in city centres created reduced footfall and spending. It also creates opportunities for redevelopment. Qui bono?
Why do they not, just just take a few bays down, and save some money?
😀😀😀😀😀😀😀😀😀😀😀😀😀😆
DJ When will the audit from RR be on? I saw it earlier with TGA`s video. With all 6 of yous on
If you want one of the most incompetent management of a market just look up at how Bradford council handled their city centre. They knocked down dozens of buildings then left it empty and derelict for about ten years. Only now are they just finishing off the re-generation of the centre.
The liability is a professional's nightmare. The insurance is very expensive and they dont care if you are a little business or a big one. Then you got to think about evrething you have to throw out becaus nobody will pay for tainted goods. You have to buy your goods and after all that you have to pay your participation to to the healthcare and you must not forget pensions. Guess what, the next is taxes.
So you get up early evry day becaus you need to get your stuff as cheep and fresh as possible, rush to get to the market, hassle your way thogh to get your stand, build it up, sell all day, pay pay pay, throw half your stuff away becaus it didn't sell. Pay pay pay then after clearing out your stand you have to unload your van into cool storage to be loaded again tomorrow morning. Now is the time up do your book keeping at the same time you eat your supper. Fall into bed at midnight To get up a 4 for the next run. And people think been self employed is easy. It's the same song all over the world and into wich ever business you look into. It's hard work it is.
I did it for years and am now an invalid. Cant keep still so I help animals.
Nice video DJ thanks for sharing
Traders need a criminal history check, if involved with food they need certified, public health must check their business and rate them for hygiene etc the same as the star rating for restaurant hot food so a few hoops to jump through, and certificates must be advertised on your stall. Also dealing with some foods requires hand washing facilities
Doesn’t look too much wrong with the market as it is so why are they going to rebuild it? It’ll look nice I suppose so they’ll put up the rents but they only have 50% occupancy now? They’ll have less vendors, less income so leave it as it is and lower the rent👍
They'll probably only get as far as knocking it down.
Smash it down & "6uild 6ack 6etter" - kinda like what Boris said about Britain 😃
Yawn.
15 Minute Cities = Total Control = Open Prison - Biometric Facial Recognition Cameras, CBDC (Central Banking Digital currency), LTN's, Only aloud to walk or cycle within your Zone...
@@MrJamezGamez Relieved to see someone else who knows what our overlords have planned for us...unless you've a jet or game-birds. As for the previous 3 years of bs, I'll keep on protesting & will never comply 😄
Bless him. What a nice lad
£7 million? Would need to rent out 100 corners of stalls a day at £23 each for almost ten years to get that back 🤣 Not gonna happen
Thank you for sharing 👍🏻
Soulsby has completely destroyed the market along with Leicester, the market was a thriving place but not now.
What they are doing basically is destroying the real market
Reminded me of the times I used to go to the market with my Mum ... in a town a few miles north.
Listening to the chaps selling crockeryto a crowd was fasinating.
So many traditions are dying out.
Northampton once a market town……….market? Gone. Watch this place Leicester, they want you in the supermarkets away from the ability to pay with cash.
😊
🥇
finally cleaning it up
It's a shame to see these markets on the decline. Used to spend every weekend with my old man down the markets, my town puts on a market in the park every last Sunday. But the real markets are on the brink. :/:/
Nice one.
Leicester Market not bin there fir a very very long time now used to go there so many times with me dad (smokie) to the smiths jewellery shop nice people great stuff in there to good video upload dj audits

Yo
Fascinating, loads of comments about the video (which is good as always), but the comments are from people who obviously haven't watched the video...... they're posted comments just a couple of minutes after a 12+ minute video was released 🤣 . DJ remembered his keyring today....👍
Propbaly not of of your best video dj but at least someone will get a keyring in Leicester 🎉
For someone who lives in Oxfordshire, I found it very interesting and good to see that it a purpose built covered market 👍
@@michaelgreene8257 I’m glad you like the video and giving it a thumbs up but for me I like the industrial estate videos As also dj keep up the good work
@@michaelgreene8257 i heard it was the biggest of its type (covered) in western europe its very old too.
Just become a member thanks DJ for your amazing videos
Why use 10 words when you can use 1000 eh, DJ? 🤣
Markets a dead space now, its a shame because the best, freshest food is from a market.
Refufbished, rent rise for definate
